Agreed. I'm glad I had the Oregon State/Boise State game to flip to. I have a feeling I'm going to be glad it's on as this game goes on, too.

Possible useless fact...is John Madden the first sportscaster to work for all four major networks?
-
Easy to think that, but the fifth team on the face side was the Young Stallions (Roma and Powers). The Conquistadors evened up the JTTS quotient on the heel side.

I really don't see a single winnable game on the schedule for Syracuse. I'm expecting them to go 0-12. Patterson is not a good QB, the receivers are horrible, the defence is wretched. When they score an offensive TD, it's an event. The program is at its lowest point probably ever, certainly since before the days of Jim Brown. I'm pretty sure I get spared seeing them lose to Iowa this week, since my ABC affiliates are Boston (probably showing Clemson/BC) and Seattle (undoubtedly showing UW/OU).

Small correction for kkk -- I had Cincinnati, not KC.

Youzhny's post-match interview made it sound very much like he was just happy to be there, that beating Rafa was his ultimate victory. I think Roddick will have his way with him.

I can't believe Verlander went in the 19th round. OFFICIAL KEEPERS: Grady Sizemore (3) Vernon Wells (4) Ervin Santana (9) Chris Ray (11)

Maybe the guy thought it was South Carolina they were playing. Or maybe he still thinks it's the 90s. Gotta love delusional fans.

Not even close to identical now... Denver - 28 Miami Carolina Tampa Bay New England Cincinnati Denver New Orleans Tennessee Philadelphia Seattle Chicago Jacksonville Arizona Indianapolis Washington San Diego

Mine was Dave Stewart's no-no against Toronto in 1990. Strangely enough, I then got to see three more within the next year or so -- Dave Stieb in September of that year (finally), and Nolan Ryan's seventh against the Jays and Dennis Martinez's perfect game for the Expos against L.A. in 1991.

So the Marlins have four no-hitters, and the Mets still don't have any?
-
Above average, at least.

The Phillies are taking over Baltimore's AAA team, so that would seem pretty likely.

What a fucking waste. Well, he hasn't been indicted yet, and thankfully no one's hurt, but for Christ's sake. Reread the last line of the tsn.ca article, in which they talk of his community service and 'upstanding citizen' awards. Wow, that's hard to believe. He was a real character guy when he was here in Ottawa with the 67s. He was a huge part of the Memorial Cup team in 1999.

More serious than that -- she said Vince raped her in the back of his limo. The chauffeur actually corroborated her story.

Fuck the Jays' bullpen. Halladay leaves with a 2-1 lead after seven, and Gibbons falls asleep and leaves Accardo in to allow FIVE runs. Halladay hasn't won a game since I bought his jersey at the Jays/A's game two weeks ago. Lovely.

I just perused CG's picks, and I'm not sure, but I think we might be identical this week.

In 1996, the Yankees were 9-3 against the Indians during the regular season. The Yankees always played well against the Indians during the mid to late 1990's. I honestly thought that if the Yankees had beat the Mariners in 1995 they would have beat the Indians in the ALCS. The only reason why the Yankees lost to the Indians in 1997 is because Rivera gave up a fluke homerun to Sanday Alomar Jr. in game 4. I don't put much stock in the regular season. Regardless, the Indians would have given the Yankees a much sterner test than the Orioles did. This was basically the same team that went to the World Series the previous year, and should have WON the World Series the following year. There was only one other team that won more than 91 games that year, though, which was an odd occurrence. And that one team was the Chicago White Sox, which hadn't been to the playoffs in seven years and wouldn't be back for another five. There was no one team that was heavily favoured, and the Yankees rode their superior pitching to the title, which couldn't have been that unexpected at the start of the playoffs.

I agree with CG. Luongo could have helped them win the division the past two or three seasons, with all the talent they had, but not now. I like Calgary to run away with the Northwest. I don't think anyone else is close.

Nope.

Sounds a little weird to me. Isn't that kind of like your ex-wife coming back to visit with her new boyfriend?

That's a total BS comment. It would be one thing to say that if they'd won the championship game last year (in which case you'd pretty much have to say it) but it's pretty clear there is no "best team in the country until proven otherwise" this season, although I suppose the winner of the OSU-Texas game could lay claim to that title. He did set up any future arguments very well, though, since there's no one on their schedule that's going to be able to prove USC isn't the best team in the country. Notre Dame? Not if the Tech game is any indication. We'll see how their season shapes up.

Please tell me that's a nickname. Otherwise, I want to see the mother that named her kid that, and her toxicology report.
