The whole point of the trap is to force players to the boards as they're entering the offensive zone. Making the rink longer won't affect the trap at all...you'd need to widen the rink to accomplish that. Increase the ice size to international levels, and you could reduce the effectiveness of the trap, because you'd have more room between the boards to skate.

I know that. Now, my lax moral code is kind of well known, but I don't have a problem with a manager betting for his team. I don't exactly see how that would effect his managerial performance, wherin he's supposed to do all that he can to win anyway. Obviously, betting against the team is a whole different ball game. What kind of message does it send to bookies if he bet on last night's game, but he's not betting on tonight's game? Obviously he thinks they're going to lose. You can not under any circumstances bet on games involving your own team, in either direction, if you exert as much control over the outcome as the manager.

And the Veterans Committee isn't nearly as likely to vote him in as the writers would be. Several HOFers like Mike Schmidt, and I believe Henry Aaron have spoken out in favor of Rose. I think he makes it in the Veterans Committee. There's not nearly enough Rose supporters on the committee for him to make it. Most people on the committee are guys who played in the 50s and 60s, and they're pretty much to a man disgusted with Rose. Very unlikely that the committee votes him in.

No argument with any of those. Gossage has been a sticking point with me for years...he was a better reliever than Eck over their entire careers. I'd love to see Jimmy Key and Dave Stieb get in, but I know that's a lost cause.

Well, this game was exactly as exciting as I thought it would be. That is to say, not at all.

Not for anyone with two functioning eyes. That's why the glowing puck was so widely ridiculed. On an unrelated topic...9 unbeaten for the Senators after tonight's 5-2 thrashing of Washington,. They're now within 5 of Toronto for first in the Northeast (and first in the conference). I'll be posting my first half thoughts later in the week.
