  1. I still remember being so crushed as a kid when Mabel pinned the Undertaker in the first round of the 1995 KOTR tournament.
  2. I think there's a good chance Tibet will explode into violence when the Dalai Lama passes away. The current Lama s trying to negotiate for a peaceful settlement with the Chinese government and is suppressing more radical elements in Tibet. However, with the current Lama taken out of the picture I think those elements could emerge and cause serious headaches for the Chinese government.
  3. Wow. That's all I can say watching that video. Interestingly enough, I actually had a game like this on Madden 2003 with the Rams against my Packers except I was the one holding on for dear life as the computer crawled back late in the NFC Championship game.
  4. With Fire Pro coming to the states I have ZERO reason to even think of purchasing this game.
  5. So it's the last tournament before the playoffs begin....and the playoffs will also begin without Tiger Woods. Sorry, but that is why I can't take these "playoffs" seriously. I thought that you'd have to play in all four events to have a shot at winning but Mr. Finchem already gave us a broken system. Tiger is out in front by a decent margin in front of Vijay anyway (and with that I guess I can't fault him for not playing) and will probably win by not having to play more than two events which just makes the system look like a joke. Anyway, I'm surprised Davis Love III is playing this week. Although he's the defending champion the playoffs do start next week and I didn't know that he'd want to play so many tournaments in a row if he wanted to make a run at the FedEx Cup. Also, congrats to Woody Austin for making the Presidents Cup team. I've always liked the guy and I think he'll represent the U.S. well although I always root against the U.S. in the Ryder and Presidents Cups. Don't ask me why I do but I just always though the International teams had cooler characters and more "into it" than their U.S. counterparts. I'm not too surprised with the pick of Weir over Ames as I figure Weir is more popular in Canada. Also, Ames just gets destroyed by Tiger Woods so you don't want that coming into the event. Damn good pick by Player of Nick O"Hern, though. That guy has game, especially in match play versus Tiger.
  6. Didn't me and Cuban play in the Southeastern Seven championship game last year? If we did I never thought of the fact that we played two title games against each other last year (the other being the Super Bowl in kkk Bowl).
  7. More housing, more food, more professors, more classroom desks, more parking spaces, more administrators to handle the "influx" of students, more police to patrol campus, more campus personnel to clean and serve, etc. I don't think that's the FULL reason for the rise in prices, some of which I think is absolutley criminals (textbook companies I'm looking at you) but I think those things contribute to some degree. My tuition has rised nearly $1,200 since I arrived three years ago. Fun to look at the history of my university bill before my upcoming senior year just to see how much costs have risen across the board. Good thing I have scholarships.
  8. I think part of the reason college costs are rising is because too many damn people are going. I remember my freshman year of college I had way too many people in my dorm that didn't even last a year because they were just there to "try it out."
  9. I actually read a very interesting article in my Introduction to Anthropology class sophomore year of college that discussed this very issue. The article said that the plagues of the magnitude of smallpox couldn't have decimated Europe due to several factors: #1: The Native Americans did not live in tightly confined areas for the most part. Instead, they followed their food on a seasonal basis and due to them not being confined in large areas it didn't allow bacteria to build up and create any crazy bugs. #2: The Native Americans did not have pigs or other nasty animals like the Europeans which also didn't allow for the chance of a transmission of an animal-type disease to humans. I remember that the article compared the livestock situations in Native American groups with Europeans but I don't remember which ones they did. #3: The Native Americans were a more sanitary people. They bathed regularly, unlike the Europeans who first saw the Native Americans as "savages" because they bathed on a regular basis, and had more proper ways of disposing of waste. This also reduced their chances of having any crazy diseases pop up. I think the author made another point about climate but I'm not sure. However, the basic theme of the article was that because Europeans lived in such nasty misery they were constantly surrounded by superbugs like smallpox and that allowed them to build up immunity to these diseases over time whereas the Native Americans, not used to confronting these superbugs because they lived a cleaner lifestyle, did not build up immunity to those same diseases or ones comparable to it and were decimated when the Europeans arrived. Very interesting study to say the least. I wish I remember the title of it because if I did I'd definitely recommend it to any history buffs here.
  10. Thanks for the feedback, I'll try out the booking suggestion and see if that gets me anywhere. I agree that the tag straps cost lots of $$$. I'll probably get rid of them due to that and the fact that the teams in the division mostly suck. I already got rid of the women's title because all I had was Miss Texas and Luna Vachon and the WWF had all the other women signed (Candi Devine, Alundra Blayze, Bull Nakano, etc.)
  11. Well I don't plan on renewing Lawler's contract when it comes up for renewal in about 6 months. I never really solved the problem I had and am sorta stuck. I just had Jarrett beat Lawler since they both wouldn't job except to each other so he had both the Unified and Heavyweight belts. Then I stripped him of the Heavyweight title since he didn't need it anymore and had a tournament for it which came down to Brian Christopher (who also has creative control...probably because he's Jerry's son but he doesn't invoke it ever) and Tommy Rich with Rich winning. Crowd is shitting all over Christopher so that's probably good for me since I don't want to build him up too much and him get a big ego with that creative button. However, Jarrett won't lose to ANYONE. He won't even lose in tag matches where he doesn't have to take the fall! It really messes up feuds because I had him feud with Kamala (which turned out fine) but poor Kamala didn't even get a single victory over the guy. He's basically John Cena burying the whole roster at this point so his momentum is at an A. On the flip side, Jarrett is the only guy in the promotion right now who really "clicks." PG-13 suck, Christopher sucks, Brett Sawyer sucks, the Moondogs suck in the ring, Kamala can't go more than 6 minutes in a match, etc. so I'm just sorta stuck with Jarrett. I signed Mike Awesome, Hercules Hernandez, and Jim Neidhart but they are always touring with FMW or AJPW and never appear. I also signed Steve Corino and Christian but they aren't clicking with the crowds as good as I thought. Perry Saturn was getting a good push from me and was starting to get over and then broke his hand and is out for another month and a half. It's just going to be a headache when I have Jarrett drop the belt because he won't want to lose it to almost anymore. I'm basically forced right now to have him feud with Lawler which is going to cost a pretty penny contract wise. Another couple questions, though: *What do you guys recommend for a "wage cap" per worker per month when you run a small/regional/cult promotion? It's always a tricky balance for me to figure out what workers I can really afford to bring in and which ones to reject because you don't have "Sophie" like in the EWR games to give you that kind of advice. *Tag teams: do you guys really focus on them? In my USWA game right now I had a really unover PG-13, the Moondogs, the Eliminators (which is of course non-existant right now due to Saturn's injury), and then I brought in Pat Tanaka to reunite with Paul Diamond for the Bad Crew and they currently hold the straps as heels. Any booking suggestions?
  12. I find Lawler to be a headache. He always gets pissed if you want him to job and in my USWA game his creative control has ruined the promotion (along with good ol' Double J of course).
  13. I find it funny that Hillary keeps saying she has the experience to lead and yet her records from her first lady days are going to be locked up until after the election: http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/na...1&cset=true
  14. And Jake Roberts outlives another wrestler... Seriously, though, I liked the face version of Crush from the late 1992 thru 1993 period. I thought his finisher was pretty awesome. He could've been the Hulk Hogan of the 1990s but the WWF chose to go with Luger instead. I never understood the job to Doink @ WrestleMania IX either. RIP Crush.
  15. Looks like Fire Pro is coming stateside!: http://ps2.ign.com/articles/811/811300p1.html
  16. This is getting a bit interesting. It's a breath of fresh air to see a major championship where at least someone in the field is chasing a Tiger Woods that has the lead as opposed to everyone imploding on the back nine. Edit: Horrible bogey by Ernie there on 16. He had a pitch into the green and flew it way too far beyond the hole. I was thinking with the way his round was going he would have stuck it close to the pin.
  17. The knock on Woody is that he isn't very good at controlling his nerves. However, I always root for him because he didn't start playing till he was 12 or 13 and basically taught himself. Looks like the 63 Tiger shot on Friday is going to be the #1 reason he's going to win this tournament.
  18. Yea, your Ames prediction is looking pretty good. Poor guy just can't put it together out there right now. The only guy that might be able to change things out there with seven to play is Els but that is going to be a monumental task. He's going to need an assist from Tiger and I don't see one forthcoming. Looks like Els will have to settle 2nd to Tiger in another major.
  19. C'mon Woody Austin!
  20. There was Doug Furnas and Phil Lafon, but only the smarks cared about them despite the matches between them being consistently awesome. As a mark I loved Furnas and LaFon. I remember being in awe in that Survivor Series 1996 match when LaFon was giving people reverse suplexes off the top rope and Furnas nearly crippled Owen Hart with a devastating release German suplex where Owen landed right on his head.
  21. I agree. The fans were ready to blow the roof off the joint if Luger had won this match by pinfall but Vince wanted to drag out the chase till WrestleMania where, of course, booking plans got changed. I see this match as Yokozuna's best WWF match ever and probably one of the best commentated matches of Vince McMahon's broadcasting career.
  22. I'm using a 1993 scenario for TEW 2007 and am playing as the USWA. The major problem is that Jarrett/Lawler won't lose AT ALL. Even jobbing them by DQ/Countout is unacceptable to them. Could it be that the other wrestlers momentum I have them feuding with is not at their level? For example, Jarrett is at an A- and Koko B. Ware is at a B- so maybe that is why he doesn't want to job?
  23. It'll be interesting to see if Scott Verplank can weather the Tiger storm today. I've always liked Verplank's style of play and while I think his style is more suited to win a US Open than a PGA he could make a bit of a run over these last 36 holes.
  24. Okay I have a problem...Lawler and Jarrett are the two top champions in the promotion (Lawler is the Unified Champ and Jarrett is the Heavyweight champ) and NEITHER OF THEM want to lose a single match. I can't make them lose because they both have creative control in their contracts. This is really messing up storylines and such and is really going to mess up getting the belt off of them eventually (which the booking team, led by me and Bill Watts) want to do. Any suggestions? Should I just vacate the belts and fire their asses?
  25. John Daly is classic.
