When I read it, it made me instantly remember people going on and on about Ebert giving Godfather II ***- so I figured I'd bump this -
Weekend Boxoffice Report, April 29-May 1

From Ebert's latest Answer Man column- Those who consult only the stars have only themselves to blame. If stars were all that mattered, why would I go to the trouble of writing a review? Nor need stars be immutable. "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" is now in my Great Movies series, and "The Godfather, Part II" is headed there. That is a de facto upgrading to four stars. -
Gabe and Doug were good if you were just starting out, but after you watch a whole year's worth of tapes, and realise they say the same thing over and over, it gets really tiring. I don't like Nulty much at all. Punk can be pretty funny though. His commentary on GBH2 is hilarious

I don't know why but I love in Zoso how Dave fucks with Lisa the whole show

Yea....it's the end of the line

I used to have Canadian skin

I apologise if this has been asked already, but what's the deal with the quote button?

That's a good way to put it. It's interesting hearing them tlak about how for the beginning of Season 2, they had no idea what the hell they were doing and they produced some crappy episodes like Friends and Rat Funeral. I find it hard to believe that, since even though Friends and Rat Funeral aren't the funniest episodes ever, they're still funnier then most sitcoms.

Sandler obviously has talent, if he can open movies the way he does. If he can open a movie and make lots of money for a stuidio then he is obviously worth the money he gets paid
-
According to BOM, Sandler's average is 69 mil and that will only grow with Longest Yard. His movies don't set records, but they almost always make big profits and can always open with 30-40 mil. He's definetely worth 20 million.
-
El is right. Titanic was expected to be a massive flop when it came out, until the reviews came in. Titanic's biggest weekend was Week 6 where it made 36 million, which is about 50 million today
-
How is he overrated if critics skewer most of his movies? The guy makes generally funny bankable comedies and he knows what will draw people.
-
Counting the Longest Yard- Sandler's been in 6 100+ films, all of them at a relatively low budget. Also adjusted for inflation, Wedding Singer would've made 100 mil plus as well. The guy is a TRUE draw. Longest Yard will have made more then Cruise's last film, Carrey's last film and Hanks' last film.

His movies always manage to make large sums of money
-
Sandler's salary, Rock's salary, the director probably cost a bit, it all adds up. I don't think they minded either, since this movie is going to make a hefty profit
-
I thought it was a fun mindless guy movie, the ending was pretty awesome with Burt. What was the point of getting Chris Rock though? The guy did nothing. He just has never translated well to movies

I was trying to block that scene out of my mind since it almost killed the badassness of the end. Sith I think will end up with around what Spiderman 2 did, since it's depreciating much faster then Phantom Menace. Sisterhood did about on the low end of expectations, but it has until June 17th to do anything. That's when Perfect Man and Herbie essentially kick that movie to the curb. Oh and VX- It's pretty much impossible for a summer movie to try and beat Titanic. Titanic did so well because it made most of its money in January and February, when there was really nothing else out.

NOOOOOOOOOOO! IT ONLY BECAME THE FASTEST MOVIE TO MAKE 300 MILLION!!!!

I think Lisa marrying Johnny Johnson was when everyone realised that the show was kind of a lost cause and they were just doing Season 5 to get to 100 episodes and to prove they could do it w/o Phil. I'm up to the episode with John Ritter now. If we are lucky enough that they get to a Season 5, would anyone buy? Some of the episodes are pretty funny, and if they did commentary on Bill Moves On, I would definetely pick it up.
-
My one minor complaint with the DVD is there's no commentary on two of my favourite Bill episodes, Bill's Autobiography and The Cane. I can understand why, but it's just a slight disappointment. On the commentaries, it sounded like they were ragging on Rat Funeral but it isn't that bad. It's a bit too schmaltzy and dumb, but Dave is really really funny in it.
-
I love how in the commentary for Luncheon at the Waldorf, they make sure to pause so we get Bill in all his glory. Maybe she called Bill an asshole or something? All the NewsRadio FAQs are gone now, but I do know a few lines were dubbed over, over the series run. I'm up to the commentary on Julie's Life now- this is an amazing DVD set

I heard that the film's portrayal of Baer is totally inaccurate

On the NewsRadio commentary: Warren Littlefield: It's nearly ten years later since the show went on the air and I don't see a defining office comedy since NewsRadio anywhere on the television landscape. Paul Simms: Well you bought one called Just Shoot Me and promoted it more then this
