That's fantastic news, I was worried about us going for ages without finding a manager, especially after Ranieri, who I thought would've been perfect for the job, joined Valencia. With a new director of football, who can buy players for the club while Santini is busy in Portugal, I'm looking forward to the coming months .

  6. "Water And Solutions" by Far. It's by far and away my favourite album that I own. They managed to retain their hard edge from "Tin Cans With Strings To You", with Jonah's vocals still veering between gentle croon and frenzied yelling, but they used a touch more of a subtle edge where before they would simply have used brute force. They were often linked with the Deftones (they toured the UK together, they're both from Sacremento, they both had a sound that had elements of metal and post-hardcore), but Far, mainly due to Jonah's vocals, sounded much more raw, sadly influencing a whole wave of bands who aren't fit to shine their shows, but have much more success. Jonah has since become a fantastic singer-songwriter with his OneLineDrawing solo career.
  7. I think the story meant last weeks Smackdown tapings, where Booker indeed beat Scotty 2 Hotty, which would give Booker momentum for this weeks tapings, where he fought the Undertaker

Those lot there are a weakness and I doubt you'll see the top half of the table with them in the team (you conceded Tarrico already). I don't see those players as weaknesses, to be honest. Gardner had a good season which saw him called up for the England squad, Jackson showed plenty of promise and became a fan favourite very quickly, Redknapp was great in the games he was fit for, especially at the end of the season and Brown is a good, battling midfielder. I'm looking forward to the new season, whoever our manager is.
  10. I'd rather have a band of dull, turgid post-grungers beaten up myself.

I wouldn't be surprised if we managed a decent position this year. Robinson is a good keeper, the new manager wont play Ledley King in midfield like Pleat did, and we've got good attacking options. Our basic first team is: GK-Robinson RB-Carr LB-Tarrico (but hopefully we'll buy a new left back) CB-King CB-Gardner RW-Davies LW-Jackson CM-Redknapp CM-Brown CF-Defoe CF-Keane Plus Doherty, Ricketts, Kanoute, Postiga and Keller all on standby, we've got a decent first team squad. Add some good summer signings and a new managerial regime and I can see us doing well this year. Of course, I say that every year, but I'm feeling confident about the 2004-2005 season.
  12. Jeez, I mean it may not have been the smartest thing for SOTY to do, but to be beaten up by fucking Godsmack's crew doesn't help anything. Of course we only have the SOTY side of this story, so there may be mitigating circumstances, but Godsmack still suck.
  13. Even though there is some tat that comes from it, I love CZW something rotten. They have some great homegrown talent (Chris Cash, Nick Berk, GQ, Nick Gage, Sonjay Dutt and, IMO, both Cory Kastle and Niles Young are coming along nicely), bring in some of the best indy talent (Chris Hero, Teddy Hart, Jimmy Rave) and have helped other indy stars make bigger names for themselves (The Messiah, B-Boy, Trent Acid). Sure, not every match is a technical masterpiece, but there is a great variety on every card which makes them my favourite indy. Plus John House is a great colour commentator.
  14. Is Deadwood the programme that has Ian McShane in it as some kind of evil sheriff? Just wondering because I know he's in some US Western series, but his UK image, as cuddly antiques dealer Lovejoy, is totally different.

I'm sure you'll step up the effort against France though, although I think the team needed Ledley King in from the start . Not surprised Owen got the goal and if Heskey is Sven's choice for a late sub to get a last minute goal, you're fucked (seven goals last season). James seemed weak, especially with the Japan goal, although he made some good saves, but Scholes looked very poor. Look on the bright side- you haven't got to the point where a 1-0 victory over Canada is considered a "great result"
  16. A word of advise on Sonic Youth- NEVER, no matter how cheap it is, buy "Silver Sessions". I did, on the basis that it was really cheap and was for charity, then found myself with a CD of feedback that they had remixed. Disapointed isn't the word. You should try and get "Experimental Jet Set, Trash And No Star" pretty soon though, it's my second favourite SY album after "Daydream Nation" Other bands: Depeche Mode: it's worth ignoring their mid-eighties output, unless you want camp synth-pop, andchecking out their early-mid ninteties work, when they started writing wonderfully dark pop songs, with a quasi-gothic edge. "Violator" is probably your best bet -it features "Personal Jesus", their best song and is a great album from start to finish. "Ultra" is also a great album which had some excellent singles ("Barrel Of A Gun", "Home") and showed how far they'd come since the days of "Just Can't Get Enough". The Vaselines- a twee Scottish indie band who became popular when it emerged that Kurt Cobain was a huge fan (he even got the band to reform to support Nirvana in the UK). Be warned- if you've only heard the Nirvana covers of "Molly's Lips", "Son Of A Gun" and "Jesus Don't Want Me For A Sunbeam", the Vaselines versions are VERY different, mainly acoustic and a lot more gentle. I think they're great and the compilation "All The Stuff And More" is not only very cheap (well, everytime I've seen it), but contains all the Vaselines material you'll ever need
  17. The major problem I have with "Roy's Keen" is that, to me, it seems to be a lazier version of "Dagenham Dave" which he wrote simply to use the pun in the title. Also, the fact that it was the single he released before "Satan Rejected My Soul", a fantastic song, really exposed what a weak effort "Roy's Keen" is. Either. "The Big Ten Inch Record" isn't too dreadful musically, but features the most irritating lyrics known to man, whereas the piano refrain from "Changes" makes me want to tear my ears off. I'm surprised you chose that album- to me it's LOA's highpoint in terms of great songwriting and "Desire" and "My Mind Is Dangerous" give an indication of the direction Keith would take in his solo career. "Angry Tree" is pap though.

  20. Besides which, you're essentially saying that anyone who bought the previous PPV's wasted their time, as Eddie was facing half-assed opposition, which isn't really going to help the DVD sales of those events.

  22. Due to the greatness of Morrissey's "You Are The Quarry", I was re-listening to my Moz back-catalogue, when I decided to listen to the album "Malajusted". Sadly, I forgot it contains the atrocity that is "Roy's Keen", which is not only a terrible pun (based on the Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane), but a dreadful song with REALLY poor lyrics ("we've never seen a keener window-cleaner" indeed). There are other examples of great artists recording absolute musical abortions and I was wondering which songs you guys considered to be utter stinkers by great artists. Others I came up with were: Aerosmith-The Big Ten Inch Record (one of the worst songs I've ever heard) David Bowie-Hallo Spaceboy Paul McCartney-Wonderful Christmastime Ozzy Osbourne-Changes (although I mainly hold his talent-vacuum of a daughter responsible for this) Over to you guys...

  25. Colour me impressed. Just ordered my copy and I don't think I'll spend a better £18 all year. Wonder if they'll address the fact that Black Tiger is Eddie Guerrero. A Benoit/Malenko commentary team sounds, um, interesting.
