I think you are writing other needs off a little easily. They desperately need a legit DE to play opposite Cole (Juqua is a nice third DE). A playmaking S or CB (that could allow Brown to move to S) is also a big need. If Desean Jackson falls that far I jump on him as he solves their return problems as well, but I don't think it is as open and shut as having to go WR round 1 no matter what.

That was great hit by Hatcher. He was playing all kinds of pissed off. You have to admit, when they had the scrum in the first period Hatcher was a good guy and let Stajan (IIRC) off the hook. They were away from everyone, had the gloves dropped and Hatcher could have killed him, but just chuckled instead.

They did bring back Oglethorpe. His name is just Downie now. The way the Canadian media is acting, if the Flyers dropped him today, I don't know if they would take him back in the country. So he's got that going for him. The best part of the whole thing was the creepy ass smile he had going to the penalty box. I always thought Claude Lemieux would have made a great Flyer. I guess Downie is going to be as close in the current NHL as you can get. As for the whole defending Flyers thing. You know who would have been mostly at fault if Coburn got Bergeroned by Kubina? Coburn. He put himself in the same position as Bergeron and it would have mostly been on him if he was hurt just the same.

Why would you say his career is over exactly? He was terrific last night. Scored a goal and stirred shit up, I'll take it. Blake runs his mouth and was running at Nitty all night, boo fucking hoo he got punched in the eye during a scrum. And was Sean Avery's career over for punching Andrew Ladd while they were tied up last week.

I don't think it is fucked up as much as just bad luck. His best years (we'll go with 2000 and 2003) while he was 6th in rushing both years he was 5th and 4th respectively in the AFC. He was great when other people just happened to be greater.

That is what makes me laugh about everyone saying Westbrook killed everyone. For every team that lost by a TD worth, their opponent was saved by said touchdown. So it all evens out (you better believe I would not be saying that if I didn't win by 70). And yes, if you are playing for more than a dollar I would not say anything about the game. Did you at least have the tiebreaker so it wasn't a complete hose job?

To an extent he has always been that way with the gopher balls. The differences I am seeing this year are: - he is holding the ball longer than ever, probably because he can't just compensate with the run - he has almost completely abandoned the deep ball, which he is solid at throwing. And turning it into the absurd checkdown on 2 out of 3 pass play routine - he is worse than ever when it comes to the WRs having to have 10 yards around them before he'll throw it to him. That last one is the big problem, IMO. That is what I was saying when Feeley was in. The same seperation that Feeley would throw into (to a fault sometimes, certainly) is not near enough for Donovan to chance. It is why I have a hard time getting on the receivers this season (except Brown, he has stunk). Everyone keeps sayings "the receivers aren't getting open", but they may be getting open enough for a QB with solid mid range accuracy. That is why he never throws picks. It isn't the gopher killers, but the fact he won't throw within 10 yards of a defender. He always got by because of his athletic ability. But now that he doesn't have that he is showing he is not really a fit for a west coast, timing throw style offense. I also find the articles that are attempting to suck him off for a great to good game on Sunday ridiculous. They won in spite of the offense, not due to anything he did.

Can't say I am shocked that I lost in both leagues. I'd be a lot more pissed if I didn't win my semifinal in my money league (even with Westbrook throwing away the TD).

Your most hated/liked for 2007

I can see hating the hype of SEC football, but god damn were there too many great games at the end of the season to hate the conference itself. Liked: - Jayson Werth and Tadahito Iguchi running on Billy Wagner at will in the 9th inning Hate: - Seeing the McNabb era pass without a SB -
BlackCactusMonkeys just needs Colston to get 2 more catches for 6 total yards (or 1 catch for 25 yards) and he will be the 8th seed.

NFL Week 14 - Dolphins? More like LOLphins! Amirite?

According to the one legal analyst chatting on ESPN.com now, it looks like Vick screwed himself when it came to sentencing. There was a point system and he was at 13, which put him at the 12-18 month range. But by faililng a drug test and not completely cooperating with the feds until after a failed lie detector test, the judge added 2 points which pushes it into the 18-24 month range. If that is indeed the case, I don't see how you can blame the judge on this one. Vick was in a position to get less than the other two and cost himself that opportunity. -
But you were in 10th going into this week's games so quit yet bitchin. I was hoping you would pull it out though, being the 1 seed sucks since I have to go against the 3rd best team in pts in Lonestars (with Brady going against the Jets) now. I'm going to get fucked over by Brady's Jets Vengeance in two leagues probably next week (this and my money league). edit: Just noticed the other possible 8 seed has Colston going tonight. Let's go Colston for a 20 pt night.

He deserves the suspension for just being a freaking moron. You know the league has a spotlight on you and he goes and throws a stupid hit. It wasn't especially dirty, but you have to know the situtation your team is in. I think part of it is that the Flyers don't have a legit heavy, so guys like Cote and Boulerice have to try to make a bigger impact then they are capable of legitimately doing. I am waiting though for Marian Gaborik to be suspended for his flying elbow into Ryan Kesler's face. As I said when the Downie hit first happened I didn't like the suspension, but if that was the new standard fine. How is a jumping elbow to the head any cleaner than a shoulder block to the head?

Jesus Tapdancing Christ. Westbrook bails the Eagles out with a punt return down to the 15 and not once in three plays does he touch the ball?!? I am officially on the Fire Andy Reid bandwagon. 4th down and you leave you best player in to block. The whole Feeley fairy tale lasted all of a week as well. I guess he though Lofa Tutupu was an Eagle the way he threw right to him 3 times. Bring on the Kolb era.

Maybe not the NCAA, but at the very least the Big East doesn't want their meal ticket going down to Pitt.

I find it amusing that as I clicked on this thread, the GB/Dallas worst officiating ever thread is right below it. I can't even root for WVU anymore just for the sake of keeping OSU out of the title game. This is a farce.
-
I just use Stevens as my example, since obviously as a Flyers fan he was a staple and a bane of my existance. And he was a perfect non-offensive defenseman in my opinion.
-
There is a reason Messier said that he never would have allowed himself to be in that position. It is up to the players to know where they are. The players anymore put themselves in positions and count on the referees and the opponents to protect them. Why should Hartnell avoid the hit though is my question? He is trying to make a play for his team and hitting a man (who isn't facing the boards) against the boards is completely legal. Should players just kind of kneel along the boards as they bring the puck on ice so noone will hit them? If someone is coming across the middle with their head down, should they not get hit because if they do they'll be knocked on queer street. Scott Stevens is going to the HOF based on not just not avoiding the big hits, but premeditating them.

Fault has nothing to do with injury. Boulerice was at fault when he crosschecked Kesler in the neck even though he got up a minute later and was back a shift or two later. I've made my opinion on the Downie hit known, but if you think that was a dirty hit then he was at fault regardless of McAmmond getting a concussion. The players are at fault (in this case) or partially at fault (in Bergeron's case) for putting themselves in positions where they did not protect themselves. If you go skating in behind the net, turn your back to the player and stop 4 feet from the boards you are putting yourself in a position to get hurt. If you kneel against the boards with the puck, you are putting yourself in a position to get hurt. For the sake of indicting Flyers fans though I will admit two facts: - we have adopted the Flyers gorilla that was run in the Ottawa Sun after the Downie hit - we are praying that they replace Hartnell with the recently off suspension Steve Downie
-
So any hit that is avoidable should be avoided? Again I go back to the Stevens-Lindros example since you seem to want a Flyer on the receiving end (yeah, with Lindros we have no history of this stuff). Lindros was in a vulnerable position, if Stevens hit him just right and Lindros landed face first on the ice and broken his neck it would still be a clean hit. And come on man, really with the kicking example. There is no circumstance under which kicking someone on the ice is legal, as opposed to hitting someone against the boards. It is hockey, there is hitting.
-
Downie was borderline IMO Boulerice was a fucktard Jones was more than half at fault (if you don't think Bergeron was partly to blame for putting himself in that position, I don't know what to tell you). My issue with this hit was the fact it happens at least once a week, yet Jones was the only one that apparently tried to murder someone. So I think the only case you can say I am trying to absolve the Flyers player of blame was Downie. Why should Hartnell bail out the Bruin player and avoid contact? It was not a dirty hit, it should not have even been a penalty. He hit him against the boards and it was Alberts' fault for kneeling against them (who blocks a dump in by kneeling?) Should Scott Stevens have hit Lindros in that ECF Game 7? - Like Alberts, Lindros put himself in a vulnerable position (skating with his head down across the middle) - Like Alberts, Lindros was in a position to get hurt (clearly, since he was a vegetable for a month) - Unlike Hartnell, Stevens even skated through him instead of slowing up
-
This is ridiculous. When did it get officially into the books that players don't have to protect themselves anymore? Hartnell did his job to hit the player. It isn't his fault that the player decided to put his head in a vulnerable position. From this point forward, everyone should just kneel along the boards since it will be a 5 minute penalty if they get hit. At least Jones gets some blame on his hit, Hartnell should be getting ZERO blame for this hit.

He started the first game against the 49ers, but dislocated his elbow in the game. He was killing it during that game too.
-
It was a bad read by Feeley. He had Smith and Westbrook available, but he never looked away from Curtis.

That hurts worse than the pistol whipping I was expecting. Wes Welker is a freaking beast.
