As a result of trading Penny, the Marlins now have Ismael Valdez in their starting rotation. Good lord, his numbers are almost Paul Abbotesque.
-
Should I mention that I told everyone in the fantasy thread to fear Oliver Perez at the beginning of the season? Nah
-
Plus he is cheap for the next 3 1/2 years. I am talking to a friend in LA on AIM right now and he said the LA media is having a shit fit over this deal. He says LoDuca is a god out there and people are calling for DePodesta's head.
-
How can you say that al? According to ESPN, Paul LoDuca is a god amongst men.

Honestly, last night was the first time I have had a big, from the gut laugh at the movies in a long time. Usually during comedies I just smile and have little laughs, but this is the first movie that had me legitimately cracking up since Old School. Doogie Howser doing a line of coke off a stripper's ass is money. And the Kumar married to the weed scene is one of my favorite scenes of all time. Did everyone else get the trailer for the completely out there John Waters movie that I now forget the name of?

I had to laugh when the ESPN people made it sound like this was a steal for NY. Granted, it is a solid deal since they are dumping Contreras' contact which is sizeable IIRC. But Loaiza had such a fluke last year, it is looking like, that to say getting him for Jose is a steal is ludicrous.
-
It is just prospects to the Twins.
-
Well what they ran on the bottom line thing was Prospects to Twins, not Lowe, but at this point screw it. When they announce it, I'll buy it.

I am just waiting for a rumor to trickle in that Polanco was traded. I don't see any other reason he was pulled in the 9th after being put in the game in the 8th today. Plus I just want him freaking gone.
-
That is what I was wondering about. I looked in the TV guide program thinking they would do the normal BBTN trade deadline special. Thankfully got around to getting the digital with ESPNews.
-
ESPNews reports Nomar headed to the Cubs in a 4 team deal.

Contreras-Loaiza deal between CHW and NYY.
-
Well according to Jim Bowden on ESPNews, the Marlins were winners adding LoDuca, Mota, and Encarnacion (not bothering to mention how much they had to give up) and the Mets were big winners adding "two pitchers, in their primes who are only going to get better". Please help me here, if you are in your prime right now, can you get better? I thought your prime was your peak. And he didn't bother mentioning they gave up about 75% of their farm system in those deals.

I know al mentioned Floyd in another thread, but Howard just got promoted to AAA Scranton along with him.
-
On New Year's Eve, he fought sumo champion Akebono in a K-1 event. Their match was the most viewed program in the entire country in that time span. Sapp got schooled in his last MMA fight, but still he is a big draw in Japan. Just maybe not as big as a year or two ago.

My problem, with Machado, is it is just another example of them holding onto a prospect to the point where they become worthless and are traded for roster filler.
-
I don't understand this logic. The Marlins have a lot of good pitchers so they don't lose anything if they trade one? The Marlins have 5 very good pitchers. But then subtract Beckett, until he proves he can stay healthy. Now you are down to 4. Trade Penny away and you are down to 3. And just like that the rotation goes from excellent to good. And Encarnacion is terrible. Al has already mentioned the abysmal OBP. As a Phillies fan, I am glad to see Penny out of the NL East.
-
As a fan, watching the game, I would want a east/west jukey runner. It is much more entertaining with a Sanders type running back. But if I were building a team, I want a North/South runner who I know I can give the ball to 3 times and will get 10 yards.
-
YES!!!! Time to get some trophy polish for the Phillies. Apprently they have traded Anderson Machado and Josh Hancock to Cincy for Todd Jones and a prospect. Ed Wade: I swear, this isn't like when I traded for Mike Williams. Honest.

One of the saddest moments in recent memory occured tonight, as in the packed theater I was at, half of the people applauded at the end. Is anyone else wondering why they would have a spare suit under the floor of the retarded person's house? Let's put the spare suit, that we have built our entire city around, in the floor of the most unpredictable person in the town. Brilliant! I liked how they announce that Ivy and Lucious are getting engaged, then Noah shows up with mysterious blood on his shirt and no one even thinks to check on Lucious. People know Noah and Ivy are close, Ivy gets engaged to Lucious, Noah ends up with blood and a 2 + 2 situation ends up The ending was just predictable and retarded. I thought there was too much Adrian Brody, in it, providing too many laughs. Especially the town hall scene with the note, when he walks up behind Walker, just killed the whole scene for me. Thank god I saw Harold and Kumar before this to save the night from being a total wash.

I think Stark was saying the only hang up with Rincon-Polanco is they were trying to find the 700k to give Oakland to make up the salary difference. So if that is the case, the deal is agreed to in principle. So there is no need to showcase him.

::A young male sits down in a big leather chair and looks toward the camera:: Man: Hi, my name is Chase Utley. I can be seen in such games as last Sunday when I lit up Mark Prior. You may be asking yourself, "Hey Chase, why aren't you starting today against Prior?". Seriously, what the hell?!? I don't care about "showcasing" Polanco if that is what they are doing. And is putting Polanco up against Mark Prior really a good way to showcase him. There is no reason Utley should not be in the lineup today.

MMA Comments that Don't Warrant a Thread

Is 10/22, UFC 50? And if so, is it known where it is going to be yet, as it was rumored for Atlantic City which I am at if that is the case. -
I agree that they aren't progressing and that some of the blame should go on Bowa, but some of the blame also has to go on the players. As for Bell, his home/road split tends to lean towards the idea that he is taking advantage of the ease with which homers get hit to LF. The 6 extra homers he has at CBP have his home slg% 70 points above the road average. Sidenote: Looking at Pat Burrell's home/road split is really sad .405/.556/.960 .347/.343/.690

At this point I can't see it making too much of a difference. A new manager would still: - be trotting Paul Abbott out there every 5th day, unless they make a move (and if it was up to Bowa he would have Floyd now instead of Abbott, IIRC). -Wagner and Madson are still going to be hurt - Pat Burrell is still going to be a joke at the plate (what the fuck is with jumping out of the way of a pitch down the middle of the plate?!?), - Chase Utley is starting to get more playing time now anyway (and hopefully should have the job after Saturday) - David Bell is still going to abysmal unless he gets the help of the CBP winds and short fence The only thing I would do at this point is get rid of Kerrigan and make Larry Andersen the pitching coach. According to reports, the pitchers would be big fans of that move. Do that and tell the players "Ok, here is what you wanted, if you try and blame anyone but yourselves now I am going to throw you under the bus"
