Phillies. It's not Joe Carter, not even close. That was a disappointing end to a great season. Two come to mind.
1. 1964 season. The Phillies blow a 6 1/2 game lead with twelve games to play.
2. Game 3, 1977 NLCS vs. the Dodgers. Series tied at 1-1. Phillies led 5-3 in the ninth, got two quick outs. Vic Davalillo gets a bunt single. Manny Mota hits a deep fly that bounces in and out of Greg Luzinski's glove for a double. Davey Lopes hits a hard grounder that bounces off Schmidt to Larry Bowa who throws out Lopes by half a step. Lopes is called safe, and the game is tied. Gene Garber then bounces a pickoff throw past the first baseman, Lopes advances to second, and scores the go-ahead run on Bill Russell's single. The Phils lost a shot at the World Series in one inning, all with two outs.
