  1. Although it's listed as late 1950s, I think that Thesz/Rocca match is from the mid-60s.
  2. What's wrong with Chris Britton?
  3. It wasn't so much the heel turn. It was the buildup towards Kerry Von Erich challenging for the world title, finally getting his fair shot, and losing it due to interference. The feud afterward set the territory on fire. It's more of a historic moment in wrestling. Again, note that Hayes at the end references Fritz Von Erich after things get heated between him and Kevin. It's one of those things where you have to read between the lines. He is referring to the booking.
  4. The obvious problem in Miami is Loria and Samson. They already killed baseball in one market (Montreal) and now they're well on their way to a second. Sad thing is they'll get to move the team to a third market, where they will no doubt bitch and moan that the government won't buy them a shiny new stadium.
  5. Thesz/Rocca is listed as late 1950s, but given the commentary it should be somewhere between 1963-66.
  6. Where did the Phillies get the idea that bringing up pitchers from the International League's worst team would improve the club? I can't see this team making the playoffs. If they do, it'll only lead to a spectacular bullpen implosion the likes of which would impress even Mitch Williams.
  7. I'm guessing a bruise is most likely. Maybe he'll miss a start.
  8. It's a single house show from Albert Hall.
  9. What's this about? There was quite a bit of talk of WWE expanding their empire overseas vastly. I'm sure there is a thread or two referring to it.
  10. I'm not sure if it was commercially released, but it was a big deal at the time. The announcers regularly mentioned Davey's big win to put him over.
  11. He does. He used the name as early as 1990 in the Tri-State wrestling days.
  12. Congratulations to the Phillies' High A affiliate in Clearwater for winning the Florida State League championship.
  13. Who is to say he didn't ask for his release?
  14. In fairness, any real objective analysis of McDonald is going to be problematic because his value is in his defense.
  15. I heard rumours about this. I hoped they weren't true. I like him too, but he's a poor man's David Eckstein, and I don't mean that in a good way. Not just a poor man's David Eckstein. McDonald is a utility infielder, and a tremendous fielder. The problem is that his type is utterly replaceable. The SWB Yankees currently have Angel Chavez in AAA. He's not a prospect, but he's slugged .448 in his AAA career and he's a great defensive player. He is not the only one. Half the teams in AAA have at least one player perfectly capable of being an MLB caliber backup infielder. There is no reason to give a guy like McDonald nearly $2 million a year, or a long term contract at that. And if he's going to start, that's just foolish. And since I've looked at the stats, I'm going to start beating the Angel Chavez drum. Alberto Gonzales is a prospect based on the notion that he's a very good defensive infielder. Chavez is a year older but much better with the bat and not much worse with the glove. If I had to pick one going forward, I'd take Chavez.
  16. 2 wins in a row. When I say trace, it means three times out of every 10,000.
  17. Another thing to remember here. In an angle like this, half the payoff is in the shows running up themselves. I think the Monday Night Wars shows that cliffhanger angles like this, good or bad, generally increase ratings.

In a case like this you look at who had the most to gain. Obviously it was whoever runs the observation tower at the Empire State Building. Got to eliminate your competition by any means necessary. (Honestly, it was tragic and all, but what can you say that hasn't been said?)
  19. Think about this for a second. If it's not Kennedy, is it better to pick someone for the sake of picking someone and having to do a big angle, or exhibiting some damage control and escaping with little harm done? I prefer this to just picking a wrestler and cramming him into a spot.
  20. One more note. Dan Giese made his MLB debut yesterday! Giese pitched parts of four seasons in Scranton. He struck out nearly a batter an inning over his minor league career, and struck out five times as many batters as he walked. It's unusual for someone with such sterling credentials never to receive a shot. As it is, he pitched two perfect innings in his debut.
  21. Might as well throw in the latest Postseason Odds Report from BP. AL East Red Sox 98% Yankees 2% AL Central Indians 96% Tigers 4% Twins trace AL West Angels 99.5% Mariners .5% AL wild card Yankees 84% Tigers 10% Mariners 2% Red Sox 2% Indians 1% Blue Jays .3% Angels .2% NL East Mets 98% Phillies 2% Braves .16% NL Central Brewers 56% Cubs 36% Cardinals 9% Yes, that adds up to 101%. All three were rounded up. NL West D'backs 62% Padres 24% Dodgers 10% Rockies 4% NL wild card Padres 31% Phillies 22% D'backs 20% Dodgers 13% Rockies 8% Braves 3% Mets 1%
  22. ESPN has Braves/Mets on Wednesday, Yankees/Red Sox on Friday and Sunday. Fox will have Yankees/Sox on Saturday unless you live three miles from either Oakland or Los Angeles. This is a crappy week for national coverage as the ESPN stuff will get blacked out in my area (due to receiving SNY and YES network feeds).
  23. Today was encouraging for the Phils. They gained a game in the wild card going into a four-game series with the notoriously weak on the road Colorado Rockies.
  24. Tuesday Night Titans has the birth of "Adorable" Adrian Adonis. Adonis gets a makeover and flat out states, "yes I'm gay!"
  25. Because Rick Reilly is sportswriting's premier douchebag and he wouldn't deserve Sosa's piss if he were on fire.
