  1. To me, poetry is a way of saying things inefficiently. I haven't heard a word from my ex-girlfriend in two months and since I got laid again, I don't miss her.
  2. What the heck is the weather doing in Cleveland? The announcers seem very doubtful that baseball will continue today.
  3. Looking at the schedule, the decision to move Fox's Saturday broadcasts to 4pm ET is beneficial. It allows teams to run games in the 1pm slot and not run up against Fox broadcasts. This way we get more day games on weekends, the way it should be.
  4. Pitching matchups for Phillies/Marlins. Friday: Jamie Moyer vs. Sergio Mitre (7pm) Saturday: Brett Myers (0-0) vs. Dontrelle Willis (1-0) (7pm) Sunday: Zach Segovia (MLB Debut) vs. Scott Olsen (1-0) (1pm) Substantial advantage today, substantial disadvantage Sunday, great matchup in between. If there is comfort Sunday, it's that we crushed Olsen in our last game against him last season, and that there isn't a book on Segovia yet. Baseball America rates Segovia 13th in the Phillies' farm system. He's a good command pitcher with an 88-92 mph fastball. Last year he completed his return from Tommy John surgery, going 16-6 between two levels and winning two games for the U.S. International team in the Olympic qualifiers.
  5. Watching the CV release of the '91 Rumble a few weeks ago, I noticed security lined the aisle in anticipation of Slaughter walking back with the gold. I guess WWE anticipated nuclear heat for Slaughter winning. When that didn't happen, I would think it would be a hint that Hogan/Slaughter wasn't the money-making machine they thought it would be.
  6. Out of curiosity, what programs did sell out Memphis? For my money, I'm tempted to say Cyndi Lauper was the best utilization of a celebrity in wrestling.
  7. Some good Phillies news from yesterday. Freddy Garcia pitched 3 1/3 innings in a rehab start and struck out 7.
  8. The Lesnar/Angle bit is terrific, high class comedy. Hayabusa is just brutal, brutal to watch.
  9. Well to Ashley's credit, I don't think there's anything she could have done to make it better.
  10. He's not insurance as much as he is a power arm in a bullpen loaded with finesse pitchers. The Phils needed depth and Rosario provides it. As for Gordon, one outing is far too premature to consider turfing him as a closer.
  11. I'm in the midst of WCW Mayhem now. I don't want to say it's an awful show, but god Vince Russo was shit when it came to booking shows. Through ten matches, eight or nine of them had outside interference of some sort. Curt Hennig's career "ended" and Arn Anderson was crippled. (Hennig's retirement lasted weeks and Arn Anderson recovered.) One woman was beat up (Torrie), another was endangered (Kimberly) and a third (Elizabeth) was threatened. An "I Quit" Match lasted five and a half minutes (with no outside interference there!).
  12. Harts were faces. Both tag matches were pretty good, with Harts/Rougeaus being the best match on the show IMO. Jimmy Hart was aligned with the Rougeaus. One note is that at this point, Jimmy Hart was banned from ringside in the Honky Tonk Man's matches. So Honky was accompanied by his valet, a strange woman named Peggy Sue who carried a megaphone and wore a scarf over her face. Beefcake countered with his own valet, an ugly, hairy female named "Georgia." Savage/DiBiase was very short, never really got going.
  13. deadspin.com I imagine that Al can't be too happy about this. Ha. Actually I'm thrilled. One, it deflate the new team. Second, it gives a whole new appreciation for putting up with Andy Mehalshik (WBRE 28) and the I-Team segments I had to watch before a game last year. Catching internet predators yet they couldn't spot the guy in the Grump suit!
  14. The Non-spoiler version. Koko B. Ware vs. "Outlaw" Ron Bass The Hart Foundation vs. The Fabulous Rougeaus Lanny Poffo vs. D.J. Peterson Brutus Beefcake vs. The Honky Tonk Man (IC Title Match) The British Bulldogs vs. Demolition (Non-Title Match) Randy Savage vs. Ted DiBiase (WWF Title Match) Hacksaw Jim Duggan vs. Andre the Giant (Lumberjack Match) Cawthon's site lists Scott Casey vs. Bad News Brown, but that match does not air on this show.
  15. This weekend the AAA season kicks off in Scranton in the midst of 35 degree highs. Like some cruel joke, it will next hit 50 the day after the first homestand. The stupid thing about this is it was absolutely gorgeous the last two weeks, perfect baseball weather.
  16. Discuss.
  17. After Wrestlemania, I flipped over to the Cards/Mets game and caught the ninth. I commented to my friend, "the Mets are now a half game up. I bet the Phils don't see first again the rest of the season." Well, it's Wednesday and the lead is now 2 1/2 games.
  18. As far as Wrestlemania IX, I remember we had a discussion about it a couple weeks ago that I can't find at the moment. I watched it recently and really it is not a bad show. I think the dislike comes from unpopular booking. Bret Hart lost his title, Tatanka failed to gain the IC title and Hogan/Beefcake lost their bid for the tag titles. Lex Luger, Crush and Razor Ramon all won, making it a good night for the heels. Reading the Wrestlecrap review, I disagree with a lot of it. Tatanka/Michaels was a great opener. Headshrinkers/Steiners was a tremendous tag team match, one of the best Headshrinker matches I've ever seen. There wasn't anything really embarrassing, except maybe Giant Gonzalez. And really, when you have a wrestler with his unique size, you damn the workrate and get whatever you can out of him. I don't think you can take Hogan off the card. The crowd chanted for Hogan during the UT/Gonzalez beatdown, so clearly it wasn't just a case of Hogan outliving his usefulness. The only thing I would do is add Randy Savage to the card. Maybe put him in against Razor Ramon instead of Bob Backlund. Make one of the matches a gimmick match.
  19. Merged the threads.
  20. Seems like it, but the bottom line is that the Phillies need to start scoring runs. They've now scored five runs in 21 innings. How long until the Philly media starts getting on the bullpen blowing leads? Tomorrow I bet. It's premature, since only four of seven relievers have even logged innings, and two of those have yet to be scored upon.

  22. according to ESPN highlights Willingham lost the game with piss poor defense. I haven't seen every play of the inning. The last play however was not a mistake on Willingham's part. Dmitri Young hit a flyball down the line deep enough to score a run on a sacrifice fly. If Willingham catches it, the game is over anyway. The Marlins' only hope was for the ball to land foul, and unfortunately it did not.
  23. Brandon Morrow made his debut for the M's yesterday. Morrow is diabetic, so I'm an instant fan.
  24. The Blue Jays scored seven runs off the Tigers in the eighth, pulling to within one run.
