  1. Stats? He's hitting .222/.295/.282 this season. His arm is shit like you said. The team is below .500 so how much credit can you give him for his leadership? He's ok defensively, but I can find you 20 guys in the minors who can catch and are not defensive liabilities.
  2. INCREDIBLY reliable, from my experiences. Money orders might add some time to your shipments if they require payment up front.
  3. He's close, but I gotta throw my vote to Brad Ausmus. Honorable mention to Bobby Crosby, who parlayed two MVP predictions into an OPS that ranks 165th out of 170 among MLB qualifiers.
  4. Dammit Myers, you're facing the Cubs. Throw strikes.
  5. Jim Thome's out with a possible hamstring injury.
  6. Working in Howard's favor is that he is the NL RBI leader. Voters love that crap. Utley's a more deserving candidate right now though.
  7. It happens every time the Cardinals win one. Of course, Mike Shannon says it every single time.
  8. MacLane's struck out just 67 in 121 innings at AAA Norfolk, and with that kind of stuff, he's going to be pitching on the edge of a cliff for most of his career. This is addition by subtraction for the Diamondbacks. Carlos Quentin is a superior player to Shawn Green, right now. He'll take over right field and perform better, and the D'backs are no longer stuck.
  9. Some reminiscing about a famous game leads me to find this gem via Retrosheet. The wind blows out at Wrigley, the Cubs come back from a 12 run deficit but can't quite pull it out. The sad thing is that these guys scored 45 runs over 10 innings and STILL finished faster than your average Yankees/Red Sox contest. Also note the attendance, a hair under 15,000. http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/B05170CHN1979.htm And since that might be a little painful to Cubs' fans, here's a contest from 1922. The Cubs led 26-9 when the Phils' scored eight in the 8th and six in the 9th. 49 combined runs, and the game lasted just three hours. http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/B08250CHN1922.htm
  10. Detroit is on their way to taking the second game from Chicago. Funny how many people started on "the sky is falling" just because the Tigers lost a few games. At this point though, there are only two division races within five games, both in the NL.
  11. Man, regardless of whether or not he's any good, I LOVE watching Jamie Moyer pitch.
  12. Bruiser, your double-posting here and BTF gives me a strange feeling of deja vu. Utley's out too, so we've got Sandoval in the lineup. Strange how many players from last year's sub .500 Red Barons squad are contributing this year. Sandoval, Victorino, Ryan Howard, Chris Coste.
  13. Wow. Rowand gets injured and the team gets better. Only question now is who gets sent down. The Phils recalled Michael Bourn along with Joe Thurston today. Someone will need to go right back to make room.
  14. I ran this because I was otherwise studying the Phils and found a few interesting things. It's not something I'd do regularly.
  15. I was hoping to find Victorino's throw, but there's no video archive of it that I can find. It was a BETTER defensive play than Burrell's sliding catch, which made Sportscenter's top ten. Joe Thurston gets the call to the bigs, and the club will likely make another call-up. Victorino's a fine replacement in center field, no worries there. The problem is that Thurston is now the best bench bat on the team. They're still very, very weak on the bench.
  16. Whew. We could not have afforded to lose that game.
  17. In case Rowand goes on the DL, Michael Bourn is committed to Team USA through September 5th. The only outfielder left on the 40 man roster is Josh Kroeger, and he is AWFUL. The Phils have two open slots on the 40 man though, so they could feasibly add Pedro Swann for a couple of weeks. And they really need to DL Tom Gordon. At this point, they can arrange it retroactively so they'd only lose him for another six days.
  18. Top Ten Droughts 1. Chicago Cubs (98 years) 2. Cleveland Indians (58 years) 3. San Francisco Giants (49 years) 4. Houston Astros (44 years) 5. San Diego Padres (37 years) 6. Milwaukee Brewers (36 years) 7. Texas Rangers (34 years) 8. Seattle Mariners (29 years) 9. Pittsburgh Pirates (27 years) 10. Philadelphia Phillies (26 years) Teams are counted either from their last World Series, their last movement, or their inception. The Washington Nationals have been in existance since 1969 without a title, but the Washington fans have only had to live with that since 2005. The CITY of Washington however has gone 82 years without a world championship. Honorable mention to Montreal who went 35 years without a title before losing the team.
  19. Rowand killed himself again.
  20. Is there a reason Contreras' failings are a source of joy to you?
  21. When will teams learn, you DON'T RUN ON VICTORINO.
  22. Rich Hill got a base hit. Coming into today, the #9 hitters are batting .235 against Philly pitching, the worst mark in the NL by 20 points.
  23. I gotta think Lilly's too good to make it through waivers.
  24. Here's a brilliant move. Walk Nunez to get to the pitcher. Of course Nunez is only hitting .198. This kind of thing can bite you the next inning.
  25. I always felt a wrestling agent named Scott Bore-us or something would have tremendous potential.
