Those four and Doc Gooden. That rotation wasn't outstanding but had no weaknesses once the Yanks shored up their fifth starter situation by trading for Cone. This version has a real problem with depth, and that puts them behind. The Yankees are winning right now because of their hitting. The reason they are surviving is because Melky Cabrera is exceeding expectations and Andy Phillips is hitting like some (re: me) thought he could all along. Phillips' OPS is comparable to Gary Sheffield, for example. I think this is a point that a single hitter does not make as great an impact as people think.

Haven't we been over this before? I watched a Phillies/Reds game live last year where Adam Dunn beat us with two home runs. The reasons pitchers give Junior good pitches is because they don't want to walk him ahead of Dunn.

Scully called the '86 World Series. If you've seen the video, that's Vin Scully on the call.

I really hope it didn't take you this long to find Vin Scully. He's probably the best announcer in baseball history.

6/5: #92, Blue Collar PGA Tour
EVIL~! alkeiper commented on kkktookmybabyaway's blog entry in KK's Korner
The Blue Collar guys were convinced to milk their popularity for all it was worth. Three or four movies, two television shows, live shows, and anything else they could do. I watched Larry's last television special and it was awful. He spent ten minutes pissing about the Dixie Chicks, and taking the Toby Keith approach to audience interaction. I like Jeff Foxworthy's comedy, and the others are good at times. But lately they seem to be increasingly pandering to their core audience. The soda commercial is for Vault, a new "energy" drink produced by Coca-Cola. There's a second one featuring a father building his son a full size football field across four neighboring backyards. That one is good as well. -
In 1906, Milledge would've ridden to the stadium with the fans on the trolleycar. There was much MORE fan interaction 100 years ago.

As some of you know, the minor league umpires settled their labor dispute and are gradually heading back to work. One unspoken effect of this is on minor league batting/pitching performances. Last season, the league average for runs scored in the International League was 4.79 runs per game. This season it fell to 3.97 runs per game. That's a huge drop in one season. So if your favorite pitching prospect starts getting lit up, don't panic.

There have been rumors about the Yankees taking an interest in the site since last season. The Phillies have publicly stated that they are unlikely to renew their player development contract with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, leaving a vacancy. SWB is guaranteed a AAA franchise so if the Phillies leave, a new team will come in. The rumored teams have included the Yankees, Mets, Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles. The decision making process will occur in September. Until then, teams can not discuss particulars.

For what it's worth, Chase Utley's shoulderblock on Russell Martin was absolutely deplorable. There are times when a runner needs to run into a catcher, but Utley went out of his way to crush Martin above the shoulders when he EASILY could've slid around him. The play wasn't close. Meanwhile the announcers praise Utley for "playing the game right." Fuck that shit. The object of baseball is not to needlessly injure the competition.

I'm inclined to say no, because there are dozens of pitchers with similar stories. Check out Herb Score, Billy McCool and Mark Fidrych, for example.

Depends on what you consider the NBA Finals. Baltimore won in 1948 when the major basketball league was the Basketball Association of America (BBA).
-
Much appreciated.
-
Assuming Dallas wins, when's the last time two teams played in the NBA Finals for the first time?
-
Understand I'm not necessarily disagreeing, just that it's too early to tell.

Milledge had a .425 OBP in AAA.

Coming into today, Carlos Delgado was 2 for his last 19. It's hard to tell anything from just 11 at bats.

Comcast Philly is carrying the SWB/Indianapolis game tonight. It's sad to look at Victory Field and then have to go to our own home park in Scranton, which is increasingly drab.

Reading the credits in the middle of an inning has to be one of the most annoying tv habits to develop the last few years.

This is a little unfair to Mulholland, who's had a tremendous career despite sticking around far too long. Mulholland has a no-hitter under his belt. The only baserunner in that game reached on an error and the following batter grounded into a double play. Mulholland was also the pitcher who threw his glove to the first baseman to record the out when the ball got stuck in his webbing. http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/B08150PHI1990.htm

For the first year, Minor League Baseball is conducting fan balloting for the AAA All-Star game. Fan voting counts for a third of the vote, with the rest taken by media and coaches. It's something different and a little fun. http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/app/new..._milb&fext=.jsp

I saw yesterday's Binghamton/Reading game live. It's not often you get to see a lineup with five players under the Mendoza line, as Binghamton did. Consequently Daniel Haigwood looked terrific, striking out seven in seven innings, giving up just one run which turned out to be the only score of the contest. Binghamton reliever Matt Lindstrom struck out four of the five batters he faced. His fastball is just devestating, hitting 100 mph at times. One player who didn't play who caught my eye was Binghamton's Henry Owens. In 14 2/3 innings, he's struck out 33 batters. In fact, he's struck out 60% of the batters he's faced. That's just disgusting. I wouldn't be surprised to see him in New York sooner than later.
-
Gonzalez has struck out 69 batters in 59 innings. As long as he's performing well, and remember he's still just 20, he's got the top spot.

That's a poor article. Are they investigating the website? The guy who sold the laptop? The pictures?
