Here's TSM's composite ranking. 1. Steve Austin vs. The Rock (Wrestlemania XVII) 2. Kurt Angle vs. Chris Benoit (Royal Rumble '03) 3. Triple H vs. Cactus Jack (Royal Rumble '00) 4. Kurt Angle vs. Shawn Michaels (Wrestlemania 21) 5. Eddie Guerrero vs. Brock Lesnar (No Way Out '04) 6. Chris Benoit vs. Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels (Wrestlemania XX) 7. The Rock vs. Hulk Hogan (Wrestlemania XVIII) 8. The Rock vs. Chris Jericho (No Mercy '01) 9. John Cena vs. Umaga (Royal Rumble '07) 10. Edge/Christian vs. Dudley Boys vs. Hardy Boys (Wrestlemania XVII) Pretty solid list, in my opinion. Austin/Rock was a landslide choice, Angle/Benoit a solid #2, and then the balloting became much closer.

I agree with Heenan in regards to WCW. He even admits himself that he was completely phoning things in at the end of his run. I think the popularity of his work with Monsoon stems mainly from Prime Time Wrestling. As a commentary tandem, they really weren't the primary team for very long. Maybe two years at most? One thing Heenan is underrated at though is a wrestler. The man could work and bump. -
Pet Sounds is one of my ten favorite albums of all time. I also think Smiley Smile is a great album, and Wild Honey is pretty good as well.

Also, Sabathia sixth. Sabathia went 11-2 for the Brewers, yes. Johan Santana went 9-0 over the same period AND had the courtesy to pitch the first three months of the season for his club as well.

Kudos on the MVP, Pujols was clearly the best player in the league. Ryan Howard though? Great September, but part of the reason they entered the month two games back was that Howard was absolutely terrible the rest of the season. It amazes me that sportswriters prattle on about people who need to get their heads out of the spreadsheets, and then they refuse to look at anything beyond RBI totals. Chase Utley was by far a better player this season.

Wilson blew six saves this year. The Giants ended up winning five of those games. And his peripherals look better than his ERA indicates. With the team unlikely to contend, why sweat the choice of closer?

I re-subscribed to the service. Hopefully they add some more old school matches. Anyone actually watch Backlund vs. Patera? Awesome match.

I can't speak for revenue, but attendance figures are widely available. They actually went up in 1930, fell to a low from 1933-35. The National League did not reach the 1929-30 level of attendance again until 1945. The American League fared a bit better, hitting attendance highs in the late 30s though suffering some dips afterwards. Attendance exploded in 1946 after the war. One of the problems with the situation was that the Yankees were one of the few teams capable of sustaining a profit, and that's when their historical dominance really started.

Mike Arbuckle is now assistant GM of the Royals. This is the guy who oversaw the drafting/development of the core of the Phillies' championship club, so this is great news for Royals' fans.

There's really a reasonable argument for Matsuzaka. 18-3, third in the league in ERA, second in ERA+. Yeah he walked a ton of batters, but he got results.

Maybe if the team is terrible. But we're talking about a team that only missed the playoffs by four games. Pujols led the league in OPS with a 100 point gap between him and second place. If anyone else wins the award, the voters are thinking too hard.

During my downtime at work, I've tried to kill time by coming up with various lists, like the greatest matches in WWE history, etc. I've had a real difficult time with this decade though, since I haven't viewed quite everything like I did in the '90s, and I have gaps in my memory as a result. We're a year away from the end of the decade, so I figured it might be fun to do ballots of the best matches from 2000-present. Simple format here. Give your list from 1-10, voting graded on a 14-9-8-7-etc. scale. Only WWE matches from January 1, 2000 to present. Let's see how this turns out. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10.

In 34 innings at the age of 22, and he struck out a batter an inning in the process. That's not exactly something I give up on.

The Rangers was actually the nickname of the minor league baseball team before the Senators' moved. Swisher is a good buy-low pickup for the Yankees. He retained the power and plate discipline, and just had a low batting average. At his age, a player should recover from that. The Yankees gave up little of consequence. You are not going to sweat your utility infielder on a team with Rodriguez and Jeter. Marquez sucks, IMO. That leaves Jhonny Nunez as the one player of real consequence. The Yankees are well stocked for their bullpen though, so they trade an area of strength to fill a void. This is a good deal for the Sox too. They have Quentin and Dye in the corners, Konerko at first base. Might as well deal Swisher for a half-decent package. They have some instability in the infield, so Betemit will help. I think Nunez can make a contribution in the bullpen by the end of the year.

Why St. Louis? The Cardinals have sported the same road uniform design more or less since the 1920s. It works. I took a look at the Phillies. There were brief times when they put PHILA on their uniforms. The Athletics never put anything more than an "A" or the elephant logo on their's. Unless a team did it in the 19th century, no MLB team has actually put "Philadelphia" on their uniforms.

On the subject of the Holliday trade, I would add that Carlos Gonzalez is really not an impressive prospect. Three years ago he lit up the Midwest League. He posted superficially great numbers in 2006, but that was an extreme hitters' environment. Two hitters on that team had higher slugging percentages (one was Mark Reynolds*), and Emilio Bonafacio was actually a better hitter on the club. Since then Gonzalez has posted merely decent numbers at AA and AAA. He'll play in the majors, but stardom? I also doubt he can play center in Coors. In that ballpark, you want to be absolutely sure the guy can handle the position defensively. I see him playing a corner slot. *When looking at Mark Reynolds, I got a look at his comps. Number one is Mike Schmidt, an impressive comparison. That one is really not valid though. Schmidt played in a much tougher era and was a gold glover. The OPS+ bears that out. Number two is Cory Snyder, and THAT is an apt comparison for Reynolds.

I don't understand why the Braves are so gung-ho on acquiring Jake Peavy. If the trade goes through, they will then need a good shortstop to replace Yunel Escobar. Their right fielder sucks, their center field options are not ready, and they only have four acceptable starters under contract. This is the first time I have ever felt comfortable in saying the Braves have no realistic chance of contending next season.
