It's not like this is a wall along the foul lines. This is an outfield wall. There is no reason to expect that you can lean over and not interfere with the play. As for suspending Sheffield that some have suggested, no way. Yes, Sheffield turned and reacted. He should. Look, we know players should not chase fans in the stands, but players should have a right to reasonable restraint.

I just have to say what an intelligent, original thread this has been.
-
I can just picture Jeter diving headfirst into the side of the truck.
-
I'm a little ignorant here. What exactly IS card counting? Can someone explain it to me?
-
It looked like the fan was looking for the baseball and accidently hit Sheffield. No excuses as fans are absolute dumbasses when it comes to chasing baseballs. Still, it doesn't need more made out of it than it was. It was handled correctly by all involved, particularly Sox security.

Really? Even the YES announcers couldn't figure out how the pitch was a ball.

I find it disgusting, personally.

It would be immensely helpful if you could post that here, so I don't need to jump through multiple threads to find everything.

Ok gang. In order to set this up, I need lineups and stuff. Please indicate how you would like to set up your team for the first quarter of the season. I need the following... Starting Lineup (Including Platoons, if applicable) Rotation Bullpen (Indicate Closer, if applicable) Reserves (5 of your 30 players need to be on the reserve list) Also, you can either pick a current manager to model your style after, or pick Earl Weaver since everyone loves his style and I have a book on it. Thank you.

Except for now he harasses me on XM. Damn you ESPN. Fortunately there is usually a game to listen to instead of the afternoon show.
-
Yeah, because Jorge Julio was the greek god of 1-2-3 innings.
-
That's possible, but the sellers are the same people who assured us Montreal was moving four years ago. I would think if they did sell the team, the new owners would not want to shake up things suddenly and publicly.

I was thinking the same thing about Scot Keith. The joke was funny at first, but now everyone has seen it and gotten a laugh, and either the joke becomes old or unfunny, or it just makes the forums look spiteful and sad. Time to retire it before either happens, imo.

MLB would get alot of bad press if they cut Robinson and besides, he has an excuse (not enough talent). Same with Willie Randolph. Cutting a manager less than a few months into his job because he didn't win right away with a club that isn't that good (plus that his hiring was considered a big step towards hiring more minorities) would be disasterous. I think Lloyd McClendon is probably the least likely to keep his job through the season, followed by Clint Hurdle. I can't see anyone else axed unless their team takes a downward spiral.

Try some minor league games. Check out this site at Baseball-reference.com. Well, if anyone listened to us intelligent analysists instead of the blithering idiots that populate Around the Horn, you might have seen it coming. As for the Phillies, our starting pitching, which was our biggest concern, has yet to produce a bad start.

For the record, I'm dropping Deacon Phillippe and picking up Curt Simmons.

All three Sox/Yankees games will air on ESPN this week. Not that it matters, because I have the exquisite pleasure of watching the Michael Kay kiss Jeter's ass on the YES Network feed. We've also got a SF/LA series this week, as well as an LA Angels/Oakland series this weekend.

Heck, Harden is a better pitcher than Zito already. He might be better than Mulder as well.
-
At least you had the As. Think of the poor fans in Cleveland. We try to ignore those years. It makes us less pitiful. I would like to note that we also have the 1925 Negro League championship to our credit.

Torii Hunter reaches first on a ball popped 15 feet in front of the plate, and steals second before the ball even reaches the plate. I guess this is what they call "smart ball?"
-
One for the first round, one for the second round, and maybe separate threads for the Conference Finals, depending on their popularity.

Sure you are. But ten consecutive playoff appearances, six American League pennants, and four World Series titles tends to deaden the pain. I personally cheer for a team that has reached the playoffs twice in my lifetime. True baseball pain is not watching your team lose a playoff series. True baseball pain is watching baseball in mid-September when your team has been eliminated from the playoffs. I got to watch my Phillies drop four consecutive games to the Marlins. In a row, at home, in June. 122 seasons, one world championship. That is futility that no team in baseball history could ever hope to match. So excuse me if I hardly weep tears of sorrow for the pitiful Yankees fans.

There is something about a Yankee fan trying to tell a Cubs fan that their Yankees have caused more heartbreak. I can't quite put my finger on it.

Funny, because with the exception of pitch counts, the sabermetric set is more favorable towards old school handling of pitchers, particularly regarding closer usage and four man rotation.
