How Come they never made it big?
EVIL~! alkeiper replied to I like Forums's topic in General Wrestling
I think Williams was a big name in the Mid South days, in the late 80s and through the early 90s. He had his moments in U.S. wrestling. Williams was pretty much past his prime when the Brawl for All event came around. -
Thanks for that. Will e-mail the site and let them know. Also noticed that their record of Heatwave '95 shows: The Pitbulls (1 and 2) and Tommy Dreamer defeated Raven and The Dudleys (Buh-Buh Ray, D-Von, and Big Dick) Can anyone who has this event on tape confirm whether this is incorrect? Cheers. It is incorrect. The Dudleys were Dudley Dudley and Snot Dudley. Big Dick was around in '95, but not in the match. Bubba Ray didn't show up until October I believe. The Dudleys as they are currently formed did not start teaming until mid-1996.

Is this the last ever Spike Lee-Reggie Miller matchup at the Garden?

Top Five biggest disgraces in sports history

I have never seen the full fight film. It does seem to me that although Dempsey was pushed back into the ring, he did reach his feet on his own. And besides, that fight was a wild fight to begin with. Rules were looser back then, and it was that fight that prompted boxing officials to insititute the neutral corner rule that played such a critical role in the Dempsey-Tunney fight. The way the country was back then was a disgrace in its own right, so I'd certainly include it. Hugh Fullerton and Christy Mathewson. Fullerton was suspicious of the line changing dramatically before the Series, and asked Mathewson to watch and see if there was any suspicious play during the Series. Mathewson found dozens of examples. And just to add another one although its not top five: Jeffrey Maier. -

It could rank, but we need to see what comes out of it before placing the work stoppage in historical context. -

Dempsey still got to his feet in time. It was hardly a disgraceful moment, particularly since Firpo didn't seem to think it was an outrage. Controversial maybe, but certainly not disgraceful. -
And post whoring brings the magic number down to 21!

Yes kids. After a few glorious years at TSM, I'm heading towards an utterly meaningless milestone!

For my next column, I'll take your questions, preferably regarding the upcoming baseball season. I will answer historical questions as well if you wish. Please no questions regarding steroid usage, as I do not feel like addressing them. So go ahead and post your queries.

Hardly. Frank Gotch retired in 1913, before Lewis was anywhere near the title.

Fan-man was Holyfield/Bowe II. -
I completely agree with this. Iverson has done NOTHING wrong in several years, and he's painted as some kind of villainous thug.

As for those listing Pacers/Pistons (not you Raz, I know you just did NBA), does anyone still remember the Riddick Bowe/Andrew Golota brawl? That was much, much worse. -

Unnecessary? The owners were demanding a hard salary cap in the face of the best year of attendance in MLB history. The next year, a federal court found the owners had not bargained in good faith, and imposed the old system until an agreement was hammered out. Not surprisingly, the players had no problem going back to work. Anyway, here's my top five... 1. The Black Sox Scandal, 1919. 2. Munich Olympics, 1972. 3. MLB color barrier, 1879-1947 4. MLB cancels postseason, 1994 5. MLB Collusion, 1985-87. The Phillies sent Steve Jeltz out to shortstop for four years because of a stupid attempt to break the players' union. That they made no effort to improve themselves is inexcusable. -
I think it is true however. Remember that this is a VERY slow period for baseball news. Writers feel the need to find anything they can write a story about. Continually asking about A-Rod accomplishes their job. I doubt A-Rod really concerns the Red Sox all that much, considering Rodriguez has always been a classy individual throughout his career. The glove slap was a bush league move, but Reggie Jackson did much the same thing in the 1977 World Series, and it didn't mar his career.

I just happened to catch the program as well. One minor squibble with the dvd is the flaming tables bit. I know for a fact that the Public Enemy started using them in their matches in 1995. It stopped for awhile after the fire chair incident.

See this. It's a non story.

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/02/21/sports/b...ll/21chass.html? And people wonder why some athletes are surly towards the media.

I know my fair share of Yankee fans, and I even tolerate a few of them. I do like that I can name more Yankees off the top of my head than the average Yankee fan.
-
That's not unusual. Expansion teams in all sports see a bump in attendance, and then a decline. The Rockies, Devil Rays, Marlins, and Diamondbacks all drew their biggest crowds in their debut seasons.
-
According to this site, the NHL's attendance hasn't dropped at all, and in fact reached its highest level ever last year. Interesting.

I'm looking for eligible players with ten or more All-Star appearances who did not make the Hall. I found Bill Freehan (11) and Steve Garvey (10). Am I missing any?

Anyone interested in a live chat for this game?

As for guys who retired this year, I can't believe I forgot Fred McGriff. I think he's still seeking work, but it is looking dim.
