Is finishing .500 the best thing for the Orioles? It looks nice, but all it may do is cost the Orioles a better player in the upcoming draft.

Surprised WWE shooting fireworks into the crowd at WM 24 hasn't been mentioned. -
Phil Hughes is nearly back as well.

The Yankees loaded the bases in the eighth, but Ron Davis came in and got Dave Winfield to fly out to snuff the rally. -
Good question. This is just speculation, but considering it's a gray area whether he actually needs the surgery yet, it must not be too excruciating an injury unless he pitches.
-
Tom Gordon is looking at Tommy John surgery, it would be his second. At 40, Gordon could opt for retirement (just speculation on my part). If this is it, Gordon has enjoyed a fine career. 138 wins, 158 saves, and three All-Star appearances.

Scranton/Syracuse tomorrow. The Chiefs have the Jays' top prospect Travis Snider, as well as Vernon Wells on a rehab assignment.
-
Phillies picked up Scott Eyre for a minor leaguer. They've been looking for a second lefty for years now.
-
Kris Benson has reeled off four straight quality starts in Lehigh Valley. He could be an option in the near future. JD Durbin meanwhile is now 0-7 with an 11.03 ERA in AAA. AA numbers are better, but there's no sugarcoating that.

I think Lopez is more likely to play second for the Cards. Remember, the Cards have a bunch of pitchers apparently playing over their heads, and they have a very good defensive shortstop. There could be a relation there.
-
Hardly, he's just 23. His send-down this year was the first of his career.

The Rays are 68-45. It will only take them three more wins to post their best record in franchise history.

Yankee Draft - The Competition

Injuries no, which would concern me a bit in a longer league but not a short tournament. Fatigue yes, the program mandates that teams rest pitchers after long outings. -
This Cubs game is certainly a testament to something, not quite futility but something along that train of thought.

A couple weeks ago six of us ran an All-Time Yankees draft. With six teams chosen, the time has come to create a competition. I entered all six teams into a baseball simulator. The games are yet to come. Before the festivities begin, I thought it would be helpful to lay out the specifics and ground rules of the tournament. 1. Each team will play ten games, two against each opponent (one home and one away). 2. The top three teams will advance to the playoffs. The team with the best record receives a bye. 3. In the case of a tie for a playoff berth (first or third place), a tiebreaker game (or games as necessary) will be held. Teams can not be eliminated in a tiebreak scenario, except via an on-field game. Seeding for those games will be decided by: Head to Head record among tied teams Overall Run Differential Random Draw 4. Playoff rounds are five games apiece. Home field format is 2-2-1. 5. Each team will use a five man rotation, ensuring two starts per pitcher. 6. Each team will use their reserve catcher in the 5th and 9th games, their reserve infielder in their 6th game and their reserve outfielder in their 7th game. 7. The extra reserves and relievers (those not drafted) will only be used in an extra inning game, or if a team has exhausted their bullpen. See the comments for game details. Lindstrom yes, the other players no. I only count players who signed. Billy Beane is a good pick.
-
Which ones? I'll be at the one tonight. Look for me Section 117, Row B. With any luck Treble will have his Jays hat.
-
I'm going to catch three out of the four Pawtucket/Scranton games this week. With any luck, I'll catch prospect Michael Bowden at some point. I assume a few of you know the Richmond Braves are picking up and moving to Gwinnett County, GA next season. When they do, they will have a new Play-by-play man. Tony Schiavone.

Lidge walked a tightrope but the Phils pick up the win. All the sudden, the lead is 2.5 games over the Marlins, three on the Mets.
-
Favorite Skip Caray line... "Bases are loaded, and I kinda wish I was."
-
Nah, just a fist pump. I'll feel better when the Phils escape the eighth inning.
-
Bored can jump in with the national games. Jon Morgan just reported that Braves' announcer Skip Caray passed away today.
-
They even have Mike Rotundo as a road agent! How come they never thought to book a skit?
-
Two. This one today and Bobby Seay on May 26st against the Angels.
-
Interestingly, no Mariano Rivera for the ninth inning today.
