Contrived, perhaps, but wasn't that the highest-rated segment of Monday night wrestling ever? The highest rated non-wrestling segment ever, yes. It also meant absolutely nothing in the long-run. I believe that it was due to the audience thinking a really big payoff was coming. Like Abdullah the Butcher coming out from under the cover and a Foley heel turn. The one time a swerve made sense, and Russo didn't do it. Go figure.

Saturday's schedule is set. Netherlands vs. Venezuela at 1pm, USA vs. Puerto Rico at 8pm. Both on the MLB Network apparently.

And neither team held the WWF Tag Titles together, despite everyone except Koko B. Ware having held the belts later. Quick opinion time from someone who wasn't watching back then: Better team...The New Foundation or High Energy? The New Foundation won once in awhile.

Looking over that Dominican lineup, it was pretty poor. Despite the All Stars, only two of the nine hitters carried career OBPs better than .350. Only David Ortiz and Hanley Ramirez have career walk rates better than league average. Now this is important because they are mostly facing pitchers they have never faced before. Extremely limited experience and video scouting. That leaves them facing unfamiliar pitches throwing a truckload of offspeed stuff, and the hitters are hacking away.

Winner advances, loser faces Mexico tomorrow. I love that four games of Pool 1 next round will air at 11pm ET. God forbid anyone in this country sees Cuba play.

And it's official. I'll be damned. Was anyone demanding this? Really? Having some fun with kayfabe results. Koko was 1-10 at PPV's, and that one win came in a Survivor Series match in which he was eliminated. He was 1-5 at Saturday Night's Main Event. He never held a title. He was a good worker, not great. He never had a memorable match. I mean, what the hell?

Getting mercy ruled is embarassing. The Aussies have a good team though, most of their talent is at least AAA caliber. No games outside the MLB Network today. Netherlands/PR at 6:30, winner advances out of that one. Italy/Canada in an elimination game at the same time, that one will draw interest on this board. Mexico/South Africa at 10pm in another elimination game. Now if Mexico loses, THAT will be a major embarrassment.

The Olympics are far worse with ringers. The only team that really exploits it here is Italy.

You're right. We can't risk players traveling to Spring Training. They might get hurt on the way there.
