If you ask me, I think this thread deserves to be placed in the 20 greatest TSM threads of all time.

That's why Evil Dead Trap is considered to be such a classic in the states...... I like the first "Evil Dead Trap" movie for what it is: not a classic at all, but a decent tributr to Dario Argento and giallo movies. As far as the "only reason people like it is because it's Japanese" crowd, well, I've become convinced about that fact over different movies. I've seen several Japanese (and other Asian) horror flicks (Dark Water, Ju-On, Marebito, Tomie, and a few others) that really didn't live up to the "it blows everything Hollywood does out of the water" hype they recieved. Hell, "Dark Water" and "Tomie" were tedious at best. Sorry Japanophiles, but I think I'd rather watch "Slither" instead of "Ju-On" or "Cello." Granted, there are Japanese horror movies that I do love ("Audition" is one of my favorite horror movies), but still, they hype some of them get is in no way justified. That out of the way, I'm sick of remakes of Japanese horror movies.

I like the drug episode, which tells you to "Just Say No" not for the usual reasons, but so that shitty anti-drug sitcom episodes won't have to be made. Also "You're not the "thunderlizard", the Tyrannosaurus is." "How would you know that?" "I dated one in highschool."

George Romero talks "Diary of the Dead"
Gary Floyd replied to NoCalMike's topic in Television & Film
The Dawn remake, while not as good as the original, is the best of the recent horror remakes, and one of the best horror remakes ever made. It's really best if you don't think of it as a remake as much, and think of it more as it's own movie, IMO. -
Seriously, is there anything this cunt does that's shocking anymore?

I must be the only guy who liked Land. Granted, it's not as good as the other three, but I still like it. -

Right now, I shouldn't even be on hear. Right now, I should be asleep. But I'm not, and that's because the fucking neighbors upstairs won't turn down the volume on their fucking TV while they watch Wedding Crashers. I know it's Wedding Crashers because I can practically hear the dialogue right now, and even earplugs won't block the noise out. I even went upstairs and asked them politely to turn sown the fucking volume, and instead they shut the fucking door in my face, and did nothing with the volume. So yeah, this is really making me murderous.

Now that's just pathetic

As far as AiC goes, them and Soundgarden are the only artists labled "Grunge" that I could get into. That out of the way, Facelift really doesn't stand out too well. Their other albums (especially Jar of Flies) work better because it sees the band finding their voice. Layne was a great vocalist, but Jerry was really the heart and soul of the band.

-The Oscars were on last night. I really wish that Pan's Labyrinth (which got 6 nominations) and Children of Men (got 2) got more love last night, as they are awesome movies. That out of the way, it's great to see Scorcese finally win one, and Forest Whitaker win for best actor. Also, it's great to see Ennio Morricone get an award, but Lifetime Achivement? Come on, he deserved an award years ago... Oh, and I think Al Gore got too much love last night. I'm no conservative, but I halfway expected someone to start blowing him on stage. "Oh Al, you made us all aware of Global Warming!" Yeah, and scientists didn't say anything before the movie came out. It's sad that it takes Al Gore of all people to make more people care about the environment. Ellen was ok. Not as bad as some say, but not that good either. -Well, I've been busy for the last few weeks, what with essays and finals and such. One of the essays is an psychoanalytical look at the splatterpunk and hardcore horror genres in literature. -"The Abandoned" isa pretty damn good horror movie. It's not perfect (it sags a bit in the middle) but its still a good, atmospheric horror movie. It's refreshing to see a horror movie rely more on atmosphere than pointless torture, at least these days.
