  1. Star Wars-Episode 3: Santa Claus Conqures the Jedi
  2. I didn't think of it as sad at all. Spoilers (Invisotext on) I thought that both of them initally being angry about the tapes, but then coming back showed that they both realised they were in love with the other person and wanted to be with them inspite of the tapes showing them what they were getting themselves into. (Invisotext off)
  3. It was a very entertaining movie. Hayden Christensen will suprise people who think he's a bad actor just beause of his Star Wars work (although the scenes where Stephen Glass starts whining are a little Anakin-esque).
  4. It was supposed to open back in December, but the studio pushed it to March. Entertainment Weekly reported it as if thay meant there was something wrong with the movie, but the studio and director said it wasn't ready. I saw it last night and thought it was great. Sometimes I thought the Kauffman/Spike Jonze movies (both of which I liked) wanted to be weird just for the sake of being weird. But I really understood and connected with this one. I have a question though. Possible Spoiler Warning Invisotext On If it was all in Joel's head, then how does Clemintine know to be in Mauntach to meet him? I mean if the explanation is "something was telling her to be there" then okay. But I was wondering if there was a part that explained it that I missed. Invisotext off End spoiler warning

Can anyone tell me what happened to the spoiler tag?
  7. Solid Show, I thought the Megan Mullally show was better. I'd put this in the league of Timberlake and Nick & Jessica, Colin Firth and the other three have been far and away the best shows of the year. Affleck is a funny guy and I'm a Kevin Smith fan, so I'm looking forward to tonight's show. This week's promos have already givin away that there doing the Boston Teens skit, so maybe Seth Meyers can get in on it.

  9. I know this is six days late, but I like facing up to my predictions. Best Picture Lord of the Rings: Return of the King It's time 1 for 1 Best Director Peter Jackson He deserves Best Director more than the movie deseves Best Picture. Though if I got a vote, mine would go to Fernando Meirelles. 2 for 2 Best Actor Sean Penn I really want Bill Murray to win this one. Penn and Depp will someday get another shot. This is likely Bill Murray's only chance. 3 for 3 Best Actress Charlize Theron Charlize winning is the biggest no brainer of the night. it was. 4 for 4 Best Supporting Actor Tim Robbins 5 for 5 Best Supporting Actress Shohreh Aghdashloo My head tells me to pick Renee Zellweger, but I think she's lost momentum and the voters have turned against the performence. Talked myself out of that one. 5 for 6 Best Original Screenplay Lost in Translation 6 for 7 Best Adapted Screenplay Mystic River Never thougt LOTR would win this one. 6 for 8 So I got 75% on the Big 8 catagories Best Cinematography Seabiscuit Wrong, 6 for 9 Best Editing Master and Commander Now I thought RTOK was great, but it winning Best Editing is a joke. 6 for 10 Best Animated Feature Finding Nemo 7 for 11 Best Foreign Film The Barbarian Invasions 8 for 12 Best Documentary Capturing the Friedmans Didn't think they'd give it to Errol Morris. 8 for 13 Best Live Action Short Two Soldiers I guessed right, thank you Entertainment Weekly. 9 for 14 Best Documentary Short Ferry Tales I guessed wrong, f%*k you Entertainment Weekly. 9 for 15 Best Animated Short Destino If this wins, Roy Disney is getting the trophy. Will he lash out at Eisner from the Oscar Stage? It lost so we'll never know. 9 for 16. Best Art Direction LOTR: Return of the King 10 for 17 Best Costume Design The Last Samurai Wrong. 10 for 18 Best Original Score LOTR: Return of the King 11 for 19 Best Original Song Into the West from LOTR: ROTK A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow from A Mighty Wind (I hope Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara perform the song in Character) They did. 12 for 20 Best Visual Effects LOTR: Return of the King 13 for 21 Best MakeUp LOTR: Return of the King 14 for 22 Best Sound LOTR; Return of the King 15 for 23 Best Sound Editing Master and Commander 16 for 24 I finished with 66%. Foolish me, I picked ROTK 8 times instead of all 11. BTW I'm glad Shakespeare in Love beat Saving Private Ryan. I hated the ending of Private Ryan. Spoiler Warning At the end when Tom Hanks tells Private Ryan to "earn this" and then we cut back to the present day with Ryan and his family. I think Spielberg wants us to believe that Ryan did earn it, which I don't agree with at all. It almost ruined the whole movie for me. I can't get the quote and spoiler tags to work for some reason.
  10. When I heard they were releasing another DVD I figured that at least the 30 minutes of deleted footage that was on the VHS special edition would be on it. But it's not.
  11. The Name in bold is who I think will win. If there's a name in itallics, that's who I hope wins. Best Picture Lord of the Rings: Return of the King It's time Best Director Peter Jackson He deserves Best Director more than the movie deseves Best Picture. Though if I got a vote, mine would go to Fernando Meirelles. Best Actor Sean Penn Bill Murray I really want Bill Murray to win this one. Penn and Depp will someday get another shot. This is likely Bill Murray's only chance. Best Actress Charlize Theron Keisha Castle-Hughes Charlize winning is the biggest no brainer of the night. Best Supporting Actor Tim Robbins Best Supporting Actress Shohreh Aghdashloo My head tells me to pick Renee Zellweger, but I think she's lost momentum and the voters have turned against the performence. Best Original Screenplay Lost in Translation Best Adapted Screenplay Mystic River American Splendor or City of God Best Cinematography Seabiscuit City of God Best Editing Master and Commander City of God Best Animated Feature Finding Nemo Best Foreign Film The Barbarian Invasions Best Documentary Capturing the Friedmans Best Live Action Short Two Soldiers Best Documentary Short Ferry Tales Best Animated Short Destino If this wins, Roy Disney is getting the trophy. Will he lash out at Eisner from the Oscar Stage? Best Art Direction LOTR: Return of the King Best Costume Design The Last Samurai Best Original Score LOTR: Return of the King Best Original Song Into the West from LOTR: ROTK A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow from A Mighty Wind (I hope Eugene Levy and Catherine O'Hara perform the song in Character) Best Visual Effects LOTR: Return of the King Best MakeUp LOTR: Return of the King Best Sound LOTR; Return of the King Best Sound Editing Master and Commander
  12. Good Show I liked the Timberlake and Nick & Jessica shows better though. The only bad skit was Walgreens. Do You Know who My Father is? was a letdown. Before the contestants were introduced, I thought they were going to play real life rich kids and Christina was going to play Paris Hilton. I figured "It's not Half-Black History Month" would earn the show an automatic thumbs up from Bob. Poor Maya can't win with Bob. Too white to play a black woman, too black to play Kristin Davis. On the subject of Tina not playing the Kristin. I think it's obvious that Tina dosen't want to be in skits unless all the other women are used up and she absolutley has to. Fun with real audio went on too long, they should have made fun off all the celebrity shows like E.T. and not just focused on Pat O'Brien. Bob, just so you know I swear I remeber reading an article about the SNL writing process in early 2002 and they mentioned a Li'll Sluthes skit getting cut. BTW, was there any confirmation on why Jeff Richards was fired? Was it the sexual harrasment alegations? I remember seeing American Speldor and thinking they should have gotten Jeff to play Letterman in the scene where Harvey Pekar gets himself thrown off Late Night.
  13. I thought the show was decent. I agree that they blew it with the White Stripes. In the monologue I assumed it was: Will Forte as E.T. Seth Meyers as C3PO and Darrell Hammond as Darth Vader BTW, Drew really did audition for Polterguist
  14. They're having trouble with the music rights and that's why it's taking so long for Season 2.
  15. I've been to 10 SNL dress rehearsals which is how I've seen a lot of skits that have never made it to air. Bob went to the the Elijah Wood dress rehersal and in his report said that one of the skits that got cut was a skit where Scrooge goes to Bob Cratchet's house on Christmas morning and finds out they weren't as bad off as they were made out to be. Bob's report is where I heard about it. It just sounded funny. I wish that sometimes on reruns they would replace some of the bad sketches with ones that got cut from dress rehersal. At least it would be something new. I know in 2000 and 2001 there were October episodes where cut skits showed up the next week on the Haloween special.
  16. From tvshowsondvd.com BTW, there was only one series. FOX was just showing reruns.
  17. I've heard three things, only one of which I'm inclined to believe. 1.) Buena Vista is either waiting to tumpet Johnny Depp's potential Oscar win on the box or wants the release to coincide with the DVD release of Big Fish. (I find this unlikely since Big Fish isn't a Disney movie and I don't think one extra copy of the DVD would be sold based on having the words "Acadamy Award Winner" in front of Johnny Depp's name on the box.) 2.) Tim Burton asked for the release to be pulled because he wasn't happy with the special features. (How could the DVD hae gotten so far along in production if Tim Burton wasn't happy with it.) 3.) There were rights issues concerning a deleted scene of Bill Murray and the Mariachi Band singing 'Que Serra Serra' (theydidn't secure the rights to the song) and an easter egg clip of Bela Lugosi in 'Dr. Ackula' (they didn't get permission from Universal to use the clip). (This is the one I believe.)
  18. I thought the show was great and may have been the best of the season. None of the skits were bad. I thought Celebrity Poker could have been better. Wizard of Oz was my favorite skit this week (reminded me of the Willy Wonka skit from the Al Gore episode and the Scrooge skit that got cut from the Elijah Wood episode). This thread was the first I had heard about Jeff Richards. Too bad, he was funny. I'm supprised that they fired him in mid-season and didn't wait until the summer. Has that happened to anyone else since Norm?
  19. I think in the third season the kids are supposed to be in 10th and 9th Grade. So they're in High School, not Jr, High.
  20. Yes!
  21. Well let's see how I did. I was hoping to get 4 out of 5 in most catagories so I could avg. 80% 4/5 I thought the Miramax Oscar machine would carry Cold Mountain. I didn't think there was enough buzz for Master and Commander 4/5 See above for why I predicted Minghella. The acadamy likes to give Peter Weir the "nominate the director, but not the picture" slot. I was right about Gary Ross being the Best Picture director who got snubbed. City of God deserved it's nomination. 5/5 Woo Hoo 3/5 Kiesha Castle-Hughes deserved to get nominated. I didn't think she had a chance because Newmarket Films was campaigning to get her a Best Supporting Actress nod because they thought she had a better shot at that one. In America is great, but I wasn't counting on Samatha Morton. I thought the movie would be overlooked. I would have perfered to have seen the Bolger sisters recognized. 4/5 I'm happy with Djimon Honsou (sic) getting nominated, but I didn't see it coming. 3/5 I thought they would overlook House of Sand and Fog. I didnt think Maria Gay Harden was showy enough to get nominated. I think Focus Features (Universal) blew it for Scarlett Johansson by campaigning for supporting actress when she was the lead actress in the movie. 3/5 Dirty Pretty Things was nominated at the Writer's Guild awards, so I probably shouldn't be supprised. I was supprised to see 21 Grams get snubbed here. 4/5 City of God deserverd it's nominaions. Total 30/40 75% (oh well).
  22. City of God was Brazil's Official submission for Best Foriegn Language Film last year. The film was screened for some acadamy members (most of them old). The audience hated the movie with many walking out and it was not nominated for Best Foriegn Language Film. Miramax then released the movie in U.S. theaters in Feb. So this year the movie was elligable in every catagory except Best Foriegn Language Film. Same thing happened to Y Tu Mama Tambien. It was was Mexico's Foriegn film submission in 2002 and nominated for best screenplay in 2003.
  23. The nomminees are announced tomorrow and here are my predictions. Best Picture Cold Mountain Lord of the Rings:ROTK Lost in Translation Mystic River Seabiscuit Best Director Sofia Coppola, Lost in Translation Clint Eastwood, Mystic River Peter Jackson, LOTR:ROTK Anthony Minghella, Cold Mountain Peter Weir, Master and Commander Best Actor Johnny Depp, Pirates of the Caribbean Ben Kingsley, House of Sand and Fog Jude Law, Cold Mountain Bill Murray, Lost in Translation Sean Penn, Mystic River Best Actress Diane Keaton, Something's Gotta Give Nicole Kidman, Cold Mountain Charlize Theron, Monster Naomi Watts, 21 Grams Evan Rachel Wood, Thirteen Best Supporting Actor Alec Baldwin, The Cooler Benicio Del Toro, 21 Grams Tim Robbins, Mystic River Peter Sarsgaard, Shattered Glass Ken Watanabe, The Last Samurai Best Supporting Actress Maria Bello, The Cooler Patricia Clarkson, Piees of April Holly Hunter, Thirteen Scarlett Johansson, Lost in Translation Renee Zellweger, Cold Mountain Best Original Screenplay Bend It Like Beckham Finding Nemo In America Lost in Translation 21 Grams Best Adapted Screenplay American Splendor Cold Mountain Lord of the Rings:ROTK Mystic River Seabiscuit
  24. I thought this one one of the better shows of a very underwhelming season. I was dreading Z105 (Man in the Box), but was supprised it turned out well. I thought Update was lackluster. I was supprised that Amy played the little boy in the monolougue since they usually ive that role to Rachel.
  25. This was a good episode. Nothing as great, but nothing was horrible either either. I'd say it was the second best show of the season, after Timberlake. Hearing about Celebrity Poker makes me wish they hadn't cut it.
