  1. My final pick, as mentioned, was from a shortlist of five or six very good episodes. I went with this one for nostalgia, as a former co-worker and I used a line from my pick all the time. You see, we worked at a newspaper together, and though I was a journalism major, she fell back on her diploma in: Communications! I know, it's a phony major. Faith Off. This episode has what I call Billy Madison syndrome, where the focal character, while not necessarily unfunny, is actually the least memorable. There's a tonne of good one-liners in this episode, from Hibbard, to Flanders, to the football play-by-play guy.
  2. Enjoy your loss at home this time, douchebag.
  3. It makes plenty of sense. Two votes against me in two possible votes is 'all over the place'.
  4. His third point of the night. Some combination of Bernier, Kesler and Burrows have been in on all three goals.
  5. Venk over Dandy. Close one. Incan over EMHE. The fuck? EMHE in the second round? Can't vote for him. Can't encourage others to. Can't do it. Byron over Cheech. Another close one. Slayer over Orton. Orton's good, but his insistance on posting nothing but Somali Pirate stuff gives the nod to Slayer, who was worried about my love for him, or something. Breathe easy. Kinetic over Snuff. A third close one! CC over Matt Young. I ordinarily like Matt, but he's been voting against me all over the place, and he called me Twigs early today. To be fair, it used to be my gamertag on Xbox Live, but it hasn't been since July. Even then, everyone there called me Twiggy or a similar derivative. Matt Young has joined a select group that includes no one but my then-underage ex-girlfriend......Anyway, CC's one of my favourites. Mellow over Bored. Fazzle over Edwin. I like Fazzle. Koab over Smartly. Tough pick, but drunk vote. Smues over mattdotcom. KKC over Pbone. Al over AoO. CanadianGuitarist over SJK. Me, you bastards. Me. Treble squeaks by BL. BL's one of my favourites, but Treble's like a Canadian Slayer. Double whammy! This was the toughest pick of the second round. Milky over K909. Second-toughest pick of the round. Somewhere in Graphics (or possibly CS), I said I was becoming the poster-tournament Benoit. VX is a huge fan of mine. Barron wholly decided my vote this round with the above quote. VX over LOTC in another very, very, very close one.
  6. Oh shit. Hey, was a ruling ever given on my desire to nominate myself ten times? My guess is no - surely I'd be higher than the 8/9 seed, and thus, wouldn't be facing SJK, shooting my "Sweet 16" dream in the foot. My dream has become a second-round, tire-spinning nightmare!
  7. It's remarkable how much more likeable John Tortorella is as an analyst than as a coach.

This is my goal. Barring Pro*Line paying for it, I'd still like to keep it under 1000. I'm more focussed on getting out of debt and buying a house as my 2099 Xmas present to myself, but I envision caving and getting a TV for football season again. My dad, who proudly knows nothing about this type of thing, had a similar conversation with me on Sunday. Despite all the great advances and new 'niche' technologies in TV, how many of us here would ultimately be disappointed in a TV that cost 750 compared to 1000, or something similar? With my seasonal employment at Best Buy consisting of watching TV for 40 hours a week, I noticed and appreciated a great difference in 720p to 1080p, or 60hz to 120hz, etc. But even with money not being an object (ie, from gambling well, or what have you), I can't imagine spending 1500 or 2000 (or higher!) on a set when I'd still be happy with a lesser model. Obviously, I'd like to have 1080p (well, that's probably become a must), and 120hz, but I'd also like a mortgage, a dishwasher, and Lasik. Keeping in mind that my living room's not going to any bigger than my previous one (wherein a 37" LCD was more than enough, and I'll keep my fingers crossed to see what Marvin quoted....if not? Oh well.

  10. EFA. Peters is from my hometown of St. Kitts - I can tell you he was the preferred native son in the NHL this time last year.
  11. Though I'm in no way defending him, I agree with this statement. I can recall dozens of fights and scraps, but nothing notably dirty. Surely Emery couldn't have been entirely innocent in 2007.
  12. Who's forgetting that? I certainly haven't. TSN has a crew there as well - no Centre Ice package for me at the moment, so I'll take all the English broadcasts of the Habs I can get. NHL Network uses the TSN crew. Just wanted to point that out.... Is that right? Hmm. Learn somethin' new every day, I guess. Twigs?! Matt Young's goin' old-school on me.
  13. There's still six or seven really good episodes on my shortlist. I'm gonna take this one, just because of the similarity to a previous pick. Like Robot Rumble, this episode unfairly gets remembered for a so-so Lisa and/or Marge story, while Homer and Bart deliver the goods. The entire first eight or ten minutes, from the episode's beginning to the first commercial, is hysterical: Maximum Homerdrive.
  14. Who's forgetting that? I certainly haven't. TSN has a crew there as well - no Centre Ice package for me at the moment, so I'll take all the English broadcasts of the Habs I can get.
  15. There's a bit in between about JC Ice and Wolfie D that I can't specifically remember (though I can sing along to it). This follows: CLARENCE MASON IS THE BOSS CROSSIN' T'S AND DOTTIN' I'S TELLS THE TRUTH, WHOLE TRUTH, NEVER TELLS A LIE.
  16. I just got thinking of two things today: I would have liked to have seen a 'winner' voted upon, but no one demanded it, and the slowdown in the episode draft kind of dampers such a thought. Edit: Nevermind the second thing. He was drafted, after all.
  17. As much props as BlackFlagg deserves for his hasty detailing of the Master Board in the first post, I have to bitch a little: Can we implement an eight-hour rule to speed things up?
  18. I'm kind of proud of how few breaks I took, or how often I would shorten them when I did take them, or whatever. It's ridiculous to suggest that someone not take them whatsoever, though. What are we, in China? Speaking of breaks, a warning like the following: "Hey, CG, I'm gonna go for a quick 15-minute smoke break." What do you mean, a quick 15-minute break? Do you have access to a fucking time speeder-upper or something?
  19. Tied for goals with 16; A lead of eight points at 33 - in the latter category, he's trailed by Patrik Berglund, who won't catch him, and Derrick Brassard, who can't catch him. So who gets it? Is Wheeler the consensus at this point? He'll be easy to vote for, but by the same token, so would Versteeg. They're both pretty similar stories - lunchpail type-a-guys on a pleasantly-surprising, fun-to-watch team. Edit: Mason's a rookie rookie? Discussion over. Double edit: That was quick, Czech.
  20. Alright, it's been on my mind all day, and it just came up on HHT now: Who's the next coach to be fired? Hartsburg? Therrien? Anderson? Tippett? My money's on Anderson. Kovalchuk looks bored and is on pace for 26, his lowest total ever (even three fewer than his rookier year, when he only played 65ish...and had Heatley with him!). They could have (or should have) easily taken one of the two recent tilts with the slumping Bolts or Pens, both of whom were playing 3 in 4. When Kovalchuk gets traded March 3, the Thrashers franchise has to be in serious trouble, but that opens up the possibility of another Southern Team debate, so I'll move on. The media are all over Therrien, but the Pens' losing streak did include two to the class of the East in Beantown, and one to a Rangers team with whom they've historically struggled. Malkin still leads the league in scoring, and Crosby's workin' hard despite his dry spell on the scoresheet. I think he'll be okay. Hartsburg can't have much left either, but you all knew that. I really hope we get more Bryan Murray on air because of this.
  21. Replace Jesse and Festus with Knox and Umaga and you're probably pretty close to correct. There's a LOT of believable or push-heavy participants there.
  22. There were lyrics when JC Ice and Wolfie D were around.
  23. I thought I was the only one.....to absolutely everything in this thread.
  24. You shittin' me, Matt?
  25. Kreese likes A Simple Plan? I hope the answer is yes - he's (probably going to be) my second-round opponent. I wanted to hit the Sweet Sixteen this year. The idea of three straight second-round eliminations doesn't sit well with me, it gives me a C2003 Phil Mickelson/BoSox/Chris Benoit "famous for not quite winning it all" capacity. Suffice to say, being the Chris Benoit of TSM isn't my path to success............... Or is it? Thread's in classics, and the first thought of anyone who's since wondered which the most trafficked thread was.
