BREAKING NEWS - KEVIN NASH IN HOSPITAL IN ORLANDO
Hunter's Torn Quad replied to Jebus's topic in TNA Wrestling
Hell, if Raven doesn't win, it's all the more reason to still be able to do another match. Hell, the finish I'd book would be Jarrett cheats, AMW interfere whatever, and Tito calls for the DQ. Then they can attack him and Ortiz can make his big comeback on them all. It doesn't hurt anything. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Remember the atmosphere and emotion during Raven vs. Jarrett way back at Destiny a few years ago? Do you really think it would have been like that had they given the match away three weeks prior with no build just to get themselves out of a jam, and then gone back to it again at Destiny? TNA MUST NOT PANIC BOOK. The first Raven vs. Jarrett rematch on PPV is where you get the most juice, not the second, no matter how well it might get built up. -

If Raven isn't going to win, they shouldn't give away Raven vs Jarrett II with zero build. If Jarrett is retaining, put Waltman in there if you can. He and Jarrett will have a good match, no booking gets messed with, and everyone goes home happy. -

Same sort of thing Nash was 'suffering' with before Starrcade in 1997. Of course, that turned out to be heartburn. -

Ask Raven to save the day, again, and hopefully we'll get a title change out of it. And no, I don't buy this either. -
HTQ takes on the Best of Japan in 2002
Hunter's Torn Quad commented on a blog entry in Straight Shooting
Jushin Liger and Wataru Inoue vs. Tsuyoshi Kikuchi and Yoshinobu Kanemaru – NOAH, February 17th 2002 Background: This was the first match in the New Japan Junior Heavyweight invasion of NOAH, which naturally saw Liger and Inoue get tremendous heat just from doing the most basic of moves. Notes: Liger and Inoue came out first, and when Kanemaru hit the ring he had to be held back from attacking Liger and Inoue. Liger, Kikuchi and Kanemaru all got superstar level reactions from the fans when they were introduced. Almost everything Liger and Inoue did got booed and jeered and just about everything Kikuchi and Kanemaru did got cheered and applauded. Early on, the Liger and Inoue threw Kikuchi to the floor and worked him over heel style and got a huge reaction for it. The atmosphere for this was electric, and you could tell that the fans were super into the match. At one point, the referee tried to pull Liger off of, I think, Kanemaru, while Inoue had him in a hold, and Liger seemed to kneelift the referee and the referee fell down and the fans booed him like crazy. With Kanemaru down, Liger did a one-footed pin attempt and got jeered like crazy. Again. When Kanemaru blocked a suplex attempt from Liger the crowd popped huge for it. Even when Kanemaru lowblowed Liger the crowd still cheered they were so against Liger. Liger was great with directing Inoue in the ring, pointing out when to block a save and when to knock one of the NOAH guys off the apron. This match totally destroys the myth that masked wrestlers can’t show charisma, because Liger had so much heel charisma. A great spot saw Liger stun Kanemaru with a forearm blow, and with Kanemaru dazed Kikuchi came in for the save and Liger sidestepped him and shoved him into Kanemaru, who hit a heel kicked Kikuchi in the groin without realizing who he was attacking. During his comeback Kanemaru lowblowed Liger and again got big cheers for it. The finish saw Kanemaru avoid a move from Inoue and hit him with a brainbuster to get the pin, while Kikuchi stopped Liger from making the save. After the match, Liger and Kanemaru had to be held back, and there was incredible heat as the New Japan guys and the NOAH guys began arguing back and forth and there was a lot of pushing and shoving. Rating: **** This was a great match. The heat was really loud all through the match and the cheering and booing was almost deafening at some points. Everyone was on fire and the crowd were really into everything that everyone did, which made the match come across as something special. This is a match you should see, not just because it’s great but also because of a really hot and entertaining crowd. -
Mick Foley returns to action in a WWE ring for the first time in 18 months. Steve Austin returns to action for the first time in over two and a half years. Triple H faces Ric Flair for the first time on PPV. All of this is happening on a PPV that will be lucky to draw 250,000 buys. Think about that one for a moment.

Triple Threat seems like a trainwreck, and they shouldn't have another Cena/Angle match on free TV, especially if they want them to have another rematch at Survivor Series. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That Triple Threat match is looking like many shades of ugly. If they are still going with Cena vs. Angle for Survivor Series, then it had better have a huge stipulation added to it if it is going to draw anything other than flies. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't suspect they are intending for that match to be the "draw" of the show but rather then "mini-invasion". What gimmick/stipulation can they use anyways? It hasn't exactly been a blood feud yet, so giving it the "Last Man Standing/I Quit/FCA/Cage" sticker doesn't work. 2/3 falls? Since Angle has a win over him and Cena does as well, with Cena going over Shawn @ TT? They could play off as they are looking to win the rubber match(for this round), so in doing so it's booked as a 2/3 falls match? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's still bad business to devalue PPV matches involving what is meant to be your major singles title. As for what stip they could add to SS, if they are still going in that direction, it depends on what happens at TT. I could see Cena beating Shawn, if only because they can get out of having to do it clean, which I don't see ever happening anyway, and then them using that to give Angle another title shot. If it goes like that, then I could see them adding a Cage stipulation. It makes no sense, but they can always make it make sense, or not, before they get to SS. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't think there's any question that Cena is going over Shawn @ Taboo Tuesday, because quite frankly, Cena going over Angle (clean or not) should effectively end the program. The fact it's a Triple Threat match alone appears to be the obvious set up for the Series re-match regardless of who Cena goes over. I hate gimmick matches used for the sake of having them but that doesn't stop WWE from doing it. The only problem is, clearly Vince and Eric are both supporting Angle here, so why would the two men in charge place Angle in locked environment where they can't control the action (in theory). I just think WWE will get lazy and set it up as a LAST MAN STANDING situation instead. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Cena beating Shawn is the only finish that makes sense if they are still going with Cena vs. Angle at SS. The only problem with that is if they are willing, or Shawn is willing, to lose to Cena in a manner that makes the story of the finish Cena beating Shawn and not Shawn losing to Cena. Cena has to come out of this looking strong in the finish. He can't just beat Shawn on a fluke because of something Angle did or that Shawn did to himself, which is likely to happen. Cena has to decisively beat Shawn in the middle. Shawn can survive the loss, though the usual suspects will likely disagree. If Cena is beating Shawn, let it be decisive and convincing, and save the set up to Cena vs. Angle at SS for the next night on Raw, so that Cena can get the rub from beating Shawn clean in the middle, and nothing else is distracting from what should be a huge win for Cena. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Just to play devil's advocate, let's pretend that the fans aren't buying into the obvious HBK push and vote TBS/Kane into the match. Does that change the make-up of the match? TBS and Kane are monsters, Cena beating them clean does no good for either of those two guys...which would force WWE to have a shitty cheap finish that completely spits in the face of the idiots who brought the show. Which is why it baffles me they even placed those two into the voting. Last year, they put in Shawn, Edge and Benoit. They had every intention that Edge wouldn't win the voting (to which, he almost did) and were banking on that either way, Shawn or Benoit, Triple H was going over and getting a good match and getting the "decisive" win over those two. With Benoit/Shawn, you could work around it because If Benoit won, perfect...HHH gets that job back and Edge goes ahead and takes Shawn out during the tag match, HBK wins? perfect, HHH gets that job back and Edge turns on former partner. They had everything planned out there to cover their asses. Here? Im almost begging TBS to win the voting just to stick it to the company. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Just to play devil's advocate, let's pretend that the fans aren't buying into the obvious HBK push and vote TBS/Kane into the match. Does that change the make-up of the match If that happens, I think we'll see Cena and Angle team up in some fashion to put TBS/Kane down, with Cena stealing the pin to set up Cena vs. Angle at SS. TBS and Kane are monsters, Cena beating them clean does no good for either of those two guys...which would force WWE to have a shitty cheap finish that completely spits in the face of the idiots who brought the show. Shit like this happens when they have few long term plans, and the ones they do have are constantly being changed at the last minute. They had everything planned out there to cover their asses I don't think they've even thought about TBS or Kane getting voted in. They'll run every angle they can to sway people into voting Shawn into the match, which will enable TBS/Kane to do the partners who can't get along deal in the tag title match, which they may or may not win. With how they've got booked this, I think it'll be interesting to see what they do, purely from a roadkill perspective, to get out of any corner they get backed into.

Yea, Though I Walk Through The Valley Of The Shadow Of Suck – Part 10 Triple H v Scott Steiner – No Way Out 2003 This was the rematch of the classic from last month that was also the subject of my last review. And with last months clash being such a stellar affair, fans wondered if there was any way they could follow it up. This was held in Montreal, and with Canadian fans tending to go against the grain as it were, it was no surprise that Steiner got a mostly mixed reaction coming out, while Triple H, the heel, got mostly cheers. The match itself was a weird one, because the crowd booed almost everything Steiner did, and cheered almost everything Triple H did, and he’s meant to be the heel. The actual wrestling wasn’t that bad, but it was by no means good, as it was pretty much a slightly shorter version of their match the month before, with slow brawling, and little of real excitement, save for the heat spot, where Triple H knocked Steiner off the ring apron, and Steiner took a nice looking face first bump into the ring steps. Around this point in the match, the crowd start chanting “You Screwed Bret”, at Earl Hebner, who was the referee, and not long after that also started what sounded like a “boring” chant as well, which was an honest assessment of this match. The funniest parts of the match came here, as Ric Flair would interfere almost constantly, but the crowd cheered everything he did. No matter what Steiner did in his comeback, the crowd booed him mercilessly. And when Triple H did the spot with Hebner where the heel shoves the referee down and the referee shoves him back, the crowd went nuts for Triple H, and booed the referee like crazy. It could be that it was actually thought that doing such a thing might get Triple H booed, but I’m inclined to believe the spot was done knowing full well it would get Triple H cheered like crazy. Another thing to bring up is the commentary by Coach and Jerry Lawler. Throughout the entire match, I don’t think they praised or hyped up Steiner once, and the vast majority of it was spent praising Triple H, the heel, and more or less making him out to be this wrestling god that Steiner had no chance against. It’s not a surprise that they verbally fellated Triple H, but couldn’t they have spared a few minutes to talk up Steiner, the babyface, over Triple H, the heel. Back to the match, if I really have to, and Steiner’s comeback is interrupted by Flair calling out the rest of Evolution to the ringside area, and Randy Orton and Batista come down to bump for Steiner, and the referee quickly orders them, and Flair, to the back. This commotion allows Triple H to hit Steiner with a belt shot, which only gets a two count, but a Pedigree later and Triple H, who is the heel, gets a wildly popular three count. Evolution then drag Triple H away, as Coach and Lawler praise Triple H, and pretty well bury Steiner, which is quite appropriate. Rating: Unlike their match the month before, this match is only around 14 minutes, but it’s still too long, and the damage to Steiner has already been done. He’s been exposed as a terrible wrestler, and as such, his credibility has a top guy was destroyed, and this match was the final nail in his coffin as a wrestler with anything meaningful to offer. The match quality was a slight improvement over the month before, and so was the booking, but really, they’d have been hard pressed to do worse, and that’s really the only positive thing you can say about this match.

The world's begging for another one? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I think Lesnar vs. Goldberg II, done right, could be something really special. If it was built correctly, and it was made clear ahead of time that both guys would be going all out and just beating the shit out of each other, it would work.
-
I tried that, and it said I have the audio codecs that should make the file work, so I'm not sure what the problem is now. Yes, and that didn't work either.
-
I tried that. Said the video file contains audio data (Audio Data: Tag 80) that the player doesn't recognize.
-
I got that when trying to play a video file, so I naturally searched for the needed codec to download. The problem is that every codec that is meant to fix this problem, such as MPEG Layer-3 Codec, doesn't actually fix the problem. I've tried every codec that came up that was said to be what I needed, but none of them work and I still have no sound on the file I am trying to play. I saw a suggestion that involved renaming a particular file, and the running and update to get a new version of said file, but that didn't work either. What else is there to try?
-
I think it was done just to surprise people. It wasn't thought out to any degree, and all it resulted in was a couple of bitter promo's from Dusty and a few stints in commentary, and then he faded away.
-
Isn't this what WCW did once with Jarrett/Sting? Only with actors playing the various incarnations of Sting? It would be completely convoluted to pull that off but it's right up WWE's alley. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yes, and it completely ruined what could have been a decent match had they kept the bullshit out if it. I think it could be a great idea, if only because it puts Carlito over Mick strong, and it avoids the need for a crazy hardcore gimmick match.
-
I wouldn't be surprised to see them pull some sort of trick to have Foley wrestle as all three gimmicks. Maybe have him start out as Dude Love, they fight to the back where they 'lose' Foley and he reappears as Mankind and then they do some other gimmick where Foley is out of sight and then he returns as Cactus Jack. Carlito can then beat him clean, and they can play it up as Foley having to resort to all three of his wrestling personalities to fight Carlito but that it still wasn't enough to get the win.
-
People think if you are funny and good with one liners, that means you can do color. Nash did color a few times in WCW, usually just to put himself over or bury someone or because he had some jokes to tell and Scott was passed out. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He was doing Thunder one time with Mike Tenay, and Tenay called him on his repeating this one joke over and over again, and the two got into almost a full blown argument over it.
-
Nash is a terrible color guy.
-
It's not mind-blowing because of how shitty the series went over @ house shows. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Their series did pretty well at house shows gate wise considering that Flair was an unknown to most of the WWF audience at the time and that they went into the program cold.
-
Which is why Nash is one of the best operators in the business. He can book you into the ground and make you happy to go along with it.
-
Because they still care about the business. For better or for worse WWE is the only serious game in town when it comes to wrestling in North America, so if you care about the business you've got to talk about WWE business, even if you don't watch the actual shows.
-
Yes, very easily.
