  1. So when is Edges ex-wife going to show up?
  2. I am boycotting this thread until my The WWE will expand the qualifications in their job description for writers to include "must know how wrestlers bleed, or be willing to learn the hardway." gets recognized for its wonderful wrestling pun. And I like one of Razas predictions.
  3. They should have just made it known that Matt Hardy vs. Edge would happen at the PPV but not announce the actual match. Have Matt say "I've got a ticket for Summerslam and enough money to pay off the security guards" and let everyone fill in the blanks.
  4. Sorry LOTC, before you can even think about it, CC can't be the Calamity Chick to our Charlie Rudo and Will Bill Curry. Smarkwood just ain't big enough.
  5. But how would they wrestle each other? Catch 22 - you have some interest in a match, but you kill the interest if you actually have the match. Something like this takes a certain amount of finesse and creativity, so it's not surprising the WWE took such an obvious route. RRR - had a way to work it.
  6. (from http://www.spiketv.com/shows/series/fightnight/ - which is actually a pretty cool site) August 6 On August 6th Spike TV presents the first ever live UFC fight card on basic cable, a 3-hour live UFC event featuring guys who won in The Ultimate Fighter Season 1 undercards fighting UFC fighters. Featuring 8 fights, including Alex Karalexis vs. Kenny Florian and Sam Hoger vs. Stephen Bonnar. Welterweight Bout Pete Spratt vs. Josh Koscheck Middleweight Bout Pete Sell vs. Nate Quarry Light Heavyweight Bout Sam Hoger vs. Stephan Bonnar Middleweight Bout Patrick Cote vs. Chris Leben Middleweight Bout Nathan Marquardt vs. Ivan Salaverry The Undercard Josh Neer vs. Drew Fickett Alex Karalexis vs. Kenny Florian Keith Rockel vs. Mike Swick Forrest Predictions For the second time Spike TV is going to give it away! That's right; Spike TV is broadcasting Ultimate Fight Night live on August 6th. This will be only the second time that Mixed Martial Arts fights will be shown live by a major network on television. The winners from The Ultimate Fighter Season 1 Finale on April 9th will be prominently featured in match ups against other top quality UFC fighters. Hoger vs. Bonnar The light heavy weight match up features Stephan Bonnar vs. Sam Hoger. Both fighters have good ground games. Stephan's stand up is boxing oriented while Sam's striking game is mauy tai. Sam will be looking to land the high kick to the head. Both fighters have long reaches which should negate each other. I think Stephan will win the fight in a good standup fight. Both fighters have good chins. Spratt vs. Koscheck The first match up features Pete "the secret weapon" Spratt against Josh "q-tip" Koscheck. Pete Spratt has only had only had two fights in the last two years. Josh has been slightly more active and has looked impressive in both wins and losses. I'm going to pick Koscheck as the winner by a close decision. I believe that Koscheck will be able to get the take downs when needed and be able to control the fight. Sell vs. Quarry The next match up is Nate "the rock" quarry vs. Pete Sell. Both fighters looked good in their last fights. Sell is a solid jits (ju jits ju) player with good boxing to go with it. Nate is also a well rounded fighter and great athlete. However, if Sell is able to take Quarry down, I think he will be able to win by submission. Cote vs. Leben Chris Leben will fight Patrick Cote at 185lbs. Patrick Cote has improved as much as any other fighter in the UFC during the last year. Despite his loss to Joe Dorkson in UFC 52, he showed very crisp boxing and clinch against an accomplished fighter. It will be interesting to see what improvements Chris Leben has made since his last fight. Leben needs to evolve his fighting style past rugged striker. I think that Cote will win by out-striking Leben, however Leben has a great chin and can win any fight with one punch. Salaverry vs. Marquardt In the main event, also at middle weight (185 lbs), we have a very exciting match up between two fighters that deserve a shot at the middle weight title. First let’s look at Nathan Marquardt who is virtually unknown to many UFC fans but has many impressive wins in Pancrase. Nathan Marquardt has the total package, submission skills as well as flashy strikes. His opponent Ivan Salaverry also has great submission skills as well as excellent standup striking skills. Salaverry has been on a tear in the middle UFC middle weight and has shown he can win fights by all available means. Both fighters are always in excellent condition so this should be a great fight! Stephan Predictions We're just a few short days away from the Ultimate Fight Night on Spike TV! As you I know, I will be facing Sam "Sticky Fingers" Hoger. In addition to fighting, Sam's passions include Chess, Poetry, and collecting UFC memorabilia. Although Sam maintains a clean and proper appearance, he can fight and is skilled in taking punishment (frequent ass whoopings at the hands of Tim Sylvia). After all, he is a Militech fighter. As you saw on the show, Sam radiates deceptiveness, which is believe it or not, a good quality in fighting. I am very prepared to fight him. My plan is to give him a good old fashion beat down. I am ready to use all the tools of the trade. I will be comfortable in all facets of the fight game. And for the first time in my fighting career, I actually look tougher than my opponent. Spratt vs. Koscheck I know Koscheck has been working with good kickers in preparation for this fight. Spratts’ kicks are like lasers, fast and they'll cut right through you. I feel Koscheck will do what he does best and hold Spratt down and ground and pound him. I really hope he throws a little bit before he goes for his takedown. This will help set the takedown up and make the fight more exciting. Spratt is dangerous, but Koscheck has been working a lot of stand up. Koscheck by ground and pound. Sell vs. Quarry Sell’s best chance to win this one is by submission. Quarry has KO'd his last two opponents in the 1st. But Sell has got balls. He threw down with Baroni, and was getting the better of some of the exchanges. I see Quarry wearing him down and getting a 3rd round stoppage from punches. I would think Quarry had the edge in takedowns as well, and if he doesn't feel comfortable, he can always takedown Sell and get ground and pound points for a decision. Cote vs. Leben The Catsmasher is back. I feel Cote is a huge test for Leben. Cote has good boxing skills. Very clean with good power. Leben is an unorthodox fighter with a big KO punch and a huge melon of a head that can take a punch. I think this will be an awesome fight! I believe Leben has the edge in takedowns and that could be a huge advantage for him. Get Cote to worry about takedowns and throw bombs over the top. The Catsmasher is my boy, so I wish him the best. I really can't wait for this one. Salaverry vs. Marquardt You know I have never seen Marquardt fight, but I am a huge Salaverry fan. I'll pick Salaverry because I have seen him take out very tough fighters like Andrei Semenov, Tony Fryklund, and Joe Riggs with relative easy. He is exciting, unpredictable, and very well rounded.
  7. Since when is UFC 'sports entertainment' though? UFC: Unleashed serves the same purpose and function of WWE RAW. In that, they are the same. The WWE just chooses to do what they do and do it poorly. And, WWE does do all of those things...in fact, that's usually the three things smarks complain about. The matches they have are meaningless. The promos, for the most part, don't build towards matches or enhance a wrestler in the eyes of the fans. There is a disproportionate amount of time (both promo and in-ring) given to a select few, while the rest get zilch. The WWE has done RAW for too long, they forget its purpose. The phrase "necessity is the mother of invention" fits nicely - the WWE runs 50 shows a year, 2 hours per show, plus 12 PPV's. They have too much time, so they waste it. They aren't efficient. The UFC, on the other hand, has waited so long for national television exposure, that they cut the bullshit, give you what you need, and let their product speak for itself. It's pretty bare bones, and I like that. Tonights Unleashed served its purpose well. It established Ivan Salaverry, Josh Koscheck, Chris Leben, and Nate Quarry. How impressive were each of those guys tonight? Do you feel that you know those guys better because of the combination of fight highlights, interviews, and the fight itself? In 44 minutes, the UFC has helped effectively elevate 4 different fighters. Was it the greatest show ever? No. But it was a good show. I was planning on watching the midnight showing of RAW, but instead felt satisifed enough to just come online and chat about Unleashed. The only problem I had was that they didn't put up the Ultimate Fight Night card and go through the matches - but then again, this is something new for them so there is still a maturation process. If they keep this going until the next show, I imagine they will do a better job promoting their live shows.
  8. I call the Salaverry/Fryklund finish the "Xenia Onatopp".
  9. Good lord, that was a beatdown. Went on a lil too long. ...UFC, continuing to be the home of the awful referee
  10. I gotta say, UFC does a better job with their television format than the WWE does. You got promos, highlights, and matches. They build towards the PPV. No Terrorists.
  11. That was a great performance standing by Quarry. Not that Sincade was good competition, but Quarry exploited his weaknesses very well, especially with that bodyshot. Koscheck was just an absolute beast, too. Great takedowns. Fuck yeah.
  12. UFC Unleashed is on after RAW on SPIKE TV. Just an FYI. Check it out, it's a nice change of pace.
  13. You fucking cocksucker. Homer in NY has some good moments and is one of the better episodes during the decline. The crab juice and the stick as well as the police message are classics.
  14. The WWE is too cagey, finance-wise, to go in the red like they did a few years back with the fall out of the XFL and WWE NY.
  15. DON'T GIVE HIM POWER. RRR (The Charlie Utter to Currys Wild Bill).
  16. Am I the only one who finds it funny that NASA has been accused of thinking "inside the box"?
  17. It's not out of Michael Bays playbook to case a low-end "name" that has some acting chops and put him in a big budget, gimmicky, movie. He did it with Nicholas Cage in "The Rock" (after Leaving Las Vegas) and (somewhat) to Will Smith (who got good reaction from 6 Degrees) in Bad Boys. However, with The Island, he didn't make it a buddy picture, which deviated from his formula. Had he made Ewen McGregor team up with, say, Dave Chappelle, then there would have been a larger audience.
  18. JR and the King will still be announcing RAW - King will continue to fuck up his role and JR will continue to yell at the end of shows as if it helps any. The WWE will still not explain their backstage camera system, as wrestlers will still act as if the camera is not there one moment, and there the next. The shows format will be exactly the same. A combination of skits, promos and matches. The skits will suck - the comedy skits will be unfunny and the dramatic ones will still not build to a match that will draw money. The promos will sound rehearsed and will feature many overused cliches. The long promos will go to HHH, John Cena, and JBL. The short promos will go to everyone else, and especially to the ones who could benefit from doing longer promos. The matches will mainly be unspectacular and certainly unmemorable. 99% of them will be rendered meaningless by 2007. Most will feature cycled-in fall guys like Tajiri, Stevie Richards, Rosie, Hurricane, Val Venis - who will lose to whatever flavour-of-the-month the WWE is pushing. All will feature basic holds, minimal psychology, no actual story, and will be terribly formulaic. The divisions and why anyone would want to hold the US or IC title, or be a tag team, will still not be explained. Everyone will still wrestle the same style. Sgt. Slaughter, Fabulous Moolah, Mae Young, and other "personalities" that no one wants to see and are just there because they are "made", will make appearances and wrestle and bore the living jesus out of everyone (at best) or make everyone change the channel (at likely). Vince McMahon will make random appearances and JR will comment on his walk. Whomever the GM's are, -if they are heels- they will get beat up by the lead face, try to stack the odds against the face, and will look like a moron because he/she continues to fail to get the better of the faces, and -if they are faces- they will make senseless, unscheduled, matches and make you wonder why the WWE needs GM's in the first place. Both will get over-ruled by Vince McMahon at some point, thus furthering ones wonderment. The women who are hired to wrestle will still wrestle horribly, and the women who are hired to excite the guys will fail to arouse. The main use of the women will be to shoot t-shirts, and roll around on Jack Doan. Eddie Guerrero will be "like brothers" once again with Rey Mysterio and Chris Benoit. Eddie Guerrero will turn on Rey Mysterio and Chris Benoit much to the shock and disgust of Michael Cole. Most of the cruiserweights hired this year, will be fired. The WWE will call up unprepared wrestlers from their farm system, expose all of their weaknesses and hide their strengths, and then send them down within months of their debut. Chris Jericho will win the IC title, or at the very least challenge for it. Ditto Benoit and the US title. Both will also contend for their respective brands top title. No explanation will be given for the shifts in position. HHH will get his win back from Batista. Obvious history between two wrestlers that would greatly benefit their feud and provide much needed depth will be ignored. Instead, an incredibly lame reason will be given and the feud will fall flat. Despite 6 years of decline in ratings, buyrates, and attendance and no signs of aptitude for the position- Stephanie McMahon will still be director of creative. The WWE will expand the qualifications in their job description for writers to include "must know how wrestlers bleed, or be willing to learn the hardway." Ok, it wouldn't be that clever.
  19. I know! The possibility of the Buffy and Angel threads getting removed from Classics is worse than the possibility of death itself.
  20. Admin: Rudo, can we have a word with you? Rudo: No.. Admin: Sorry, i must have phrased that badly. May we have a brief, friendly chat? Rudo: No! Admin: Once again I have failed.[reading from a Admin-English phrasebook]We request the pleasure of your company for a free exchange of ideas. Rudo: NO!!!!
  21. Nah, wrestlers and MMA stars have affiliated for a while now. Goldberg being in the corner of Wes Sims, being friends with Mark Coleman, hanging out backstage at UFC shows. UFC features WWE wrestlers on camera as "celebs". Numberous MMA fighters have crossed over into wrestling and back into MMA with little to no consequence. Besides, Brock earned his stripes in the amatuer field, there would be nothing but respect for him. As for "why would Brock want to fight Batista". Well, see, Brock likes a challenge. He left the WWE for a challege. He achieved all he could ever dream in the WWE - he won the KOTR, he won the RR, he won the title at wrestlemania. But now there is Batista - a guy of equal size and strength - who could possibly push Brock to the farthest reaches of his ability.
  22. It's been 5 years already, if the plug hasn't been pulled on the Stephanie Experiment, it will never be. You gotta realize that this is Vince's Grand Plan - Shane takes over the business side, Steph takes over the creative side. Much like Linda and Vince now. You think Vince is going to give up THAT? In relation to the topic, the WWE's worst enemy right now is Time. Everyone has their breaking point - some people it's one month of bad shows, some people it's one year, and then there's people like us who are still watching after 5 years - but watching much less and the number of people here watching this time next year will be cut by 20%. In two years, half the people posting here won't be. Three years, I imagine the vast majority won't be.

  24. How is psychologyless and meaningless matches "different"? I agree with the sentiment, though. The WWE should have more comedy matches - it adds variety to the shows. The only good part of the match -to me- was Pocket Rocket. One, I found the name clever for a second. Two, he had great facial expressions. Three, the aforementioned punching spot. The rest of the match wasn't good or funny at all and the finish fell flat. They did that after a RAW in Toronto last January. HHH/Flair vs. Batista/???. There was lots of comedy spots, the one standing out was HHH going off the middle rope to a downed opponent - the opponent puts up a leg and stuns HHH. HHH stands there dazed for at least a minute, maybe 2 or 3. Just when you think he's coming out of it - he flops.
  25. Mdogg20 vs. Colt Cabana at a UWA Hardcore show a few months back was one of the funniest matches I've ever seen. Here's my review: I thought the Midget spot on Vis on Monday was hilarious. The "punch punch punch punch punch *gets tired* *takes a breather* *goes back at it*" was good wrestling, physical comedy. Not necessarily because he was a midget and Vis was fat -which was the objective of the match- but because taking a time out in wrestling is funny in its own right.
