They're paying him that money to be a #4, which is about all he is. Burnett has great stuff, no doubt. The issue I would have would be that two of his best seasons were in walk years. Every other year, he's hurt with a varying cocktail of shoulder/arm soreness.

The Things That Anger You Thread.

There's a wonderful invention called "the internet". I haven't seen a sportscenter or espnews in probably six months. Hockey highlights on the NHL network and MLB highlights soon to be on the MLB network next month.

Terrible game for the Bruins. As good as they think they are, they aren't good enough yet to just flip and switch to win a game.

You mean we won't get games from last night recapped at 4 in the afternoon? Or watch Kevin Kennedy awkwardly flirt with Zelasko to the point of offering her a mustache ride? Maybe when we tune in at 335p when the damn guide says that the game starts, it'll actually start then and not at fucking 415? Happy day. Now all I'm waiting for is "FOX is dropping the MLB next year."

Great first period, awful second and third from the black and gold tonight. They were lucky to get the 2 points tonight. I expect them to look like the Bruins of late against the Caps on wednesday.

    TSM Death Pool - 2008

It's purely subjective, but people who count as celebrities should be someone you can easily recognize with a google or imdb search. Like, say an actor dies, someone should recognize him/her from being in something. Not just "oh, that dude's the world's oldest car mechanic" and getting points because you did some stupid research. Some of those dudes Marvin got points on were no more famous than me.

Yes, let's dump 10 million into the catching position because we like how the guy carried himself on the field three years ago. They need to adjust for life after Varitek, and now's the time. He had a shit year, a shit playoffs and is now looking for 2+ years at Posada money. Take a fucking hike. And take Heidi Watney with you.

McCabe is still in Sunrise and looks like shit. I'd say that it's hard to believe that he got more money a year than Kaberle, but then you have to consider who gave out those extensions and that he's probably working at Men's Warehouse right now. Roberts is with the Lightning this year. I think he might be older than Rick Tocchet (in fact, I'd bet on it har har). Those two Tampa owners look like the biggest pieces of shit right now. They obviously don't know their collective asses from a hole in the ground when it comes to running a team and if they think that LeCavalier is going to stick around and slum it in Tampa for the next fucking nine years, they're in for a reality check. Hopefully that one clears.

    Office Christmas Parties

Everyone I know calls it "Tonic", which is universal for coke, pepsi, ginger ale, ect. My dad called soda "tonic". I still have memories of being with him one weekend when I was five or so. We were at McDonald's and he kept telling me to "drink your tonic" and pointing to my cup. But next to my cup was my dipping sauce for my McNuggets, so I thought he wanted me to drink my sweet and sour sauce. Finally, he slammed the cup down in front of me and told me to drink and I realized what he meant.

You guys aren't going to believe this, but: Radim Vrbata and his 3 million dollar cap hit have been waived by the EA NHL 09 Tampa Bay Lightning. I guess 6 points in 18 games isn't good enough with that kind of price tag. He's gone to Europe as well, so Tampa will get that money back on their cap. Chris Gratton was waived as well, and with the Panthers missing about 15 forwards, he could possibly go back across the state, which would see him play for the Panthers for the second time in three years. 06-07 with the Panthers, 07-08 with the Lightning and possibly 08-09 with the Panthers again. He might as well get a condo in Fort Myers.

    Merry Christmas!

Indifferent to the holiday. I like some of the music and food, but mostly just enjoy being around family. I really don't enjoy getting presents because I hate being surprised and I hate lying about how much I like something. Every once in a while I get something I'm truly happy to get, but it's mostly just gift certificates to stores/restaurants I don't go to that force us to go to eat at Chili's or something. As comedian Dan Naturman said: "Why not just give me the $50 and a note that says 'Hey, if you're in the area check out Tower Records!'"

Food Network and food shows thread

The disappointing thing is that BBC America has started airing the American version of Kitchen Nightmares during their daily reruns of Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares. I saw on the DVR the other day that they were airing the Dillon's episode, the indian food restaurant that led to his being sued by the manager who quit/was fired. The American version does suck though. It's just him yelling at people.

Food Network and food shows thread

Good Eats is the greatest show on that network. Also like Diners Drive-ins and Dives, Bobby Flay's grill show, the new Dinner Impossible with Mike Symon, etc. They're starting to get oversaturated with sassy women though. There's the retarded "How'd That Get On My Plate?" with a noisy idiot. It's kind of like "How It's Made" but for idiots. The Neely's are just fucking abominable. They try to come across as a warm, loving family but it's such a fucking act that it nearly drives me to a rage. Paula Deen's recipes should just be injected straight into the arteries of your heart. Her good-for-nothing kids are the shits. Even Emeril couldn't do anything anymore, and I usually liked him. I'm down to Alton Brown, Bobby Flay and Michael Symon as people I can stand anymore. I liked Fieri, and I still do, but he can be a tad grating sometimes. We get it, you're a surfer, bra. Make me some fucking breakfast. He overflavors his food too.

Kind of healthy. Kobasew missed some time, Sturm has missed a few in a row with a possible concussion, Ference has been out for a little while now, Ward hurt himself against Detroit. You could argue that Bergeron is still feeling the effects of the hit last year. Bruins are doing well because of their depth and goaltending.

    NHL Thread - December

Chiarelli's been trying to make a deep team since he got the job almost three years ago. He now has four lines that can score, play defense and hit everything in the opposing sweater. Their depth on defense has been great this year. Losing Ference, who was playing very well before his injury, would have crippled them years ago. This season it's different. Plug in Hunwick and don't miss a beat. Everyone keeps waiting for the Thomas/Fernandez duo to falter but Thomas has been spectacular and Fernandez continues to get comfortable. That they are where they are without that true #2 defenseman is absolutely remarkable. Julien has done a great job with motivating guys. I've said it a few times but his benching of Kessel in the playoffs may have turned Kessel from bust to boom. The benching seemed to motivate Kessel, who now plays like he has a rocket up his ass. With Bergeron and Ryder slow going in the goal department, they have the well balanced scoring that a true contender needs. They just need to keep it up.

    The Hockey Thread

Fernandez was the right call tonight. Against teams like Detroit and Montreal, you need a solid positional goaltender with better rebound control. Fernandez has that; Technically speaking, Fernandez is one of the best in the NHL when he's healthy. Thomas is the new generation Hasek. You love him when he's on, but when he's off he can be absolutely brutal. Thomas probably gets the start thursday against the Panthers.
