Huh....I think that's the show I had planned to go to on the way back from Michigan. Thanks.

When did Jacobs win the Indiana State title from Thomaselli anyway?

ECW World title(Taz edition) vs NWA Domed Globe
Slingshot Suplex replied to a topic in General Wrestling
The NWA belt easily. It's beauty is in the history of the belt and it's classic simplicity. -
They were probably partying! There was nothing official GCW going on there. Probably just getting ready for the drive to Cape

Ring of Honor 6.18.05 "Death Before Dishonor 3"
Slingshot Suplex replied to a topic in General Wrestling
As far as shocking angles, to me, this was brilliant. The few that actually thought Punk might win probably expected it to be vacated. Instead, he took it and ran. The thing now is....does anyone know for sure when he goes to WWE? Every defense is a potential title change. As long as Punk isn't beating challengers clean on his way out, this can only be good for ROH. -
Ring of Honor 6.18.05 "Death Before Dishonor 3"

I like Aries a lot but I kinda agree with zyn. Yes, he had some very good matches during his 6 months but his reign will be most remembered for the fact that he ended Joe's. I don't agree about Aries being a transitional champ. I mean about his title run. He had good matches but not a match that really stand out above the others. -
Looking to get into Ring of Honor

As amped as the crowd was for that show, I just can't believe they were so bored three minutes in to start random chants. I just don't see it. -

Since I know Tim Cooke is on this board and I can't register for the ROH board....I need to respond to something he posted there. "I learned that the worst ROH crowds are still better than those ECW crowds. Chanting Chris Candido randomly in the middle of Storm v Jericho was funny for all the wrong reasons. Tim" Tim, respectfully, it was a nice , quick little tribute to Chris Candido by the New York crowd and if they were going to do it at any point in the show........that was the match to do it during considering Lance Storm was Candido's ECW tag partner/ feud. They did do it again later which seemed more out of nowhere but I thought the first time was actually very classy of them to acknowledge him in that way. You can knock the ECW crowds if you choose to, but what you cited is not a very good example to do so. -
The difference between ECW and WCW from that same time span is that ECW had an emotional connection to it's fanbase that WCW rarely reached. So for my money, I'll take pretty much any ECW over mid-90's WCW.

They've been good about carrying WWE stuff the last year/ year and a half at the one by me. I think the Ric Flair dvd sales may have encouraged them to start carrying wrestling regularly. I hope to pick both up tomorrow night.

When I've seen him, he gets a nice pop coming out but then nobody reacts to him over the course of the match. If you constantly have to yell "Come on babaaaay!" to get the crowd to react to your match...then you're doing nothing but forcing a reaction. As for Delirious, he technically won the feud with Jacobs so he should get some matches. Don't know if I'm ready for another D vs Jacobs feud though.

Prazak , by himself, is very good. He's more toned down and serious and focused. When he has someone to play off of.....Fannin, Kingston, Danger, Punk, etc..he gets a but looser and playful. Sometimes it works, sometimes it kinda takes away from the match. But out of those 4 , Punk is the only one that bothers me. -
I don't understand Danny Daniels advancing over Cannon. Whenever I've seen Daniels since his face turn, nobody seems to react to the guy unless he's practically begging for reaction. He's completely bland. And Hero vs Cannon would have made more sense anyway with their history the last year. And Mickie winning the women's title in MsChif's first defense of the title......I figured they'd build up her chase more. Plus the title really needed some stability since it's jumped from Mercedes Martinez to Aerial to Daizee to MsChif and now Mickie all in a matter of 5 months. I figured MsChif (the heel champ) would have 2 strong babyface challengers , Daizee and Mickie, plus ,occasionally,Traci Brooks, Merecedes and Allison Danger (Danger and Chif have a bit of history to play off of even heel vs heel) Abercrombie is ok. I'm actually kinda glad Delirious dropped the LH title. He's been wrestling the same people in IWA-MS for practically a year now. The long Jacobs feud, Abercrombie, Thomaselli. Maybe give him some fresher matches now.

I refuse to even register for that message board because it would just end up with pointless arguing. There is no way it would ever end well. -

I generally don't like Punk on commentary on ROH or IWA-MS. While amusing at times, it seems to be done solely to get himself over. He does have his insightful moments though. Thats's why I like Nulty. The commentary I've heard from him I like. Not everything but he at least tries to add some depth to the match. -
IWA Mid-South Wrestling held a matinee show at the New Alhambra Sports Center (the former ECW Arena/Viking Hall) in Philadelphia, PA on Saturday afternoon, 6/11. Here's what went down... 1. JOSH ABERCROMBIE def. DELIRIOUS with the Phoenix Splash to win the IWA Light Heavyweight Title in the opening contest. 2. "The Notorious 187" HOMICIDE def. CM PUNK (w/ his ROH students) with an inside cradle. After the match, IAN ROTTEN thanked Punk for his contributions to IWA-MS and wished him well in whatever he decides for his future in wrestling. This Friday in Midlothian, IL, Punk will face D-LO BROWN in what could wind u p being of his final IWA-MS matches. 3. MICKIE KNUCKLES def. MsCHIF & ALLISON DANGER in a Three-Way Elimination Match to win the NWA Midwest/IWA Mid-South Women's Title. Danger was the first wrestler eliminated from the match after MsChif blew red mist in her eyes and she couldn't continue. MsChif busted Mickie open with a running knee strike in the corner with her spiked vest over Mickie's face. Mickie scored the deciding pinfall following the shining kick to the face. IAN ROTTEN and several IWA-MS wrestlers joined a bloody Mickie in the ring following her victory to congratulate her on achieving her dream. 4. "Double C" CLAUDIO CASTAGNOLI (w/ Jade Chung) def. "Wild Eyed Southern Boy" TRACY SMOTHERS with use of a chain behind the referee's back. 5. "The Iron Saints" VITO & SAL THOMASELLIS won a Six-Way Elimination Tables Match to become the new IWA World Tag Team Titles. ERIC PRIEST came to the ring first and informed the fans that SILAS YOUNG was unable to make it to Philadelphia, but he got an ECW legend to be his partner, and introduced CHAD AUSTIN. They battled with the ROH students DAVEY ANDREWS & SHANE HAGADORN (who entered themselves into competition at the last minute) for the first two minutes, before JIM FANNIN & JADE CHUNG'S duo of EDDIE KINGSTON & BJ WHITMER entered the fray. Kingston eliminated both teams when he powerbombed Hagadorn on top of Austin, who was laying on a table, simultaneously eliminating both teams. Reigning champions TRIK DAVIS & RYAN BOZ were the next team to enter, followed by "The Iron Saints" of VITO & SAL THOMASELLI, and then BRANDON THOMASELLI & "The New Age Punisher" B-BOY. All of the teams fought for the next several minutes, until Whitmer & Kingston were eliminated when Brandon superbombed Chung off the ropes through Whitmer and the table. Vito & Sal then scored the deciding elimination when they hit the Double stomp off the top rope to the floor through a table on Davis. 6. IAN ROTTEN & AXL ROTTEN & "Spyder" NATE WEBB def. MAD MAN PONDO & JC BAILEY & "Mr. Insanity" TOBY KLEIN in a Hardcore Rules Six-Man Tag Team Match when Ian & Axl sandwiched the head of Pondo between two simultaneous chairhsots. Ian explained to the fans that their original partner BALLS MAHONEY had decided to not work the show due to wanting more money, but they convinced Webb to participate. After the match, Ian assured the Philly fans that IWA-MS would return in the future. 7. DANNY DANIELS def. "Anarchist" ARIK CANNNON in the first pairing of the Gauntlet Series for an IWA World Heavyweight Title shot after a tombstone piledriver. 8. CHRIS HERO def. DANNY DANIELS with the Hangman's Clutch in the second Gauntlet Series pairing to earn the title shot. 9. JIMMY JACOBS retained the IWA World Heavyweight Title against CHRIS HERO after throwing powder in his eyes and hitting the back senton off the top rope. 10. SAMOA JOE def. THE NECRO BUTCHER in the main event of the evening via knockout following several knee strikes and a kick to the side of the head. Afterwards, IAN ROTTEN told the fans he would give them a rematch between the two men. NOTES: The event was filmed for VHS & DVD release by Smart Mark Video, with commentary by Dave Prazak, Jim Fannin, Steve Mack, CM Punk, Allison Danger, and Eddie Kingston. IWA-MS returns to action this coming weekend, with events in the Chicago area. Friday, 6/17 is in Midlothian, IL at the Park District Rec Center. Saturday, 6/18 is in Hammond, IN at the Armory. Look for matches for both events to be announced on the IWA-MS web site during the coming days. www.iwamidsouthwrestling.com Damn...Delirious loses the LH title AND MsChif loses the women's title. But the show sounds good overall.

Kast's 90 days should be up either this week or next. If he isn't eligible for Cape next Saturday, for sure by Mt Vernon, IL on the 25th. Patterson gets a LH title shot after one friggin match in the promotion? A match he didn't even win? And Jynx , the former champ, is relegated to "also appearing?" Wow. And Ravenbomb, yeah, unless there is some sort of miracle, Delirious won't be back. Which sucks.

As far as the promotion.....it's one of the best. I've been to three live shows and the atmosphere is great. Sometimes some of their stuff seems to be a bit overhyped on the critical praise to me though. The commentary....I like the color guy...I guess that's Nulty? I don't like the play by play that much but it's passable. -
I've been thinking of a little road trip over to Louisville anyway. If he's in OVW in July, I think I'll go.

My first GCW show almost 2 1/2 years ago.....I could see the potential in Delirious. There was a lot of good unknown talent on the roster back then but he stood out. Matt was a spot guy to me. A lot of cool, aerial stuff and screamed babyface but seemed , to me, to be missing something. He's improved a lot since then though. Other than Kory Twist and maybe OuTtkast, I don't get that "someone to watch for in the near future " vibe out of anybody at this point. Kevin X (Sharp) has the look and ability and I'm surprised he's never made more noise in the midwest. There is some good, younger talent in GCW ...I'm not trying to belittle the current roster at all. I just don't see anybody beyond the couple I mentioned "breaking out" in 2005. There are a couple who I could see doing some things next year if they keep improving though. *EDIT* And to add, Dingo and Sean Vincent could also get more attention with more exposure. Vincent is a tremendous heel but probably would need to put a little more weight on to get noticed. Dingo has worked in some other midwest promotions and I think even worked Wildside a couple times. I see him and Kast at a similar level but Kast has a more distinctive look and unique moveset, which is why I mentioned Kast before him. I'm beginning to really like Nick Tyson. He's not home grown GCW.....I believe he's wrestled mostly in western Missouri/ Kansas. I know he wrestles for NWA Central States. He's been a regular the last few months in GCW though and he's very good.

Vince's mentailty for the ECW ppv (I'm SCARED!!)
Slingshot Suplex replied to a topic in The WWE Folder
The sad part is if the ppv does well....it'll be attributed to the WWE involvement. If it tanks, then the ECW name will be the escape hatch/ scapegoat. They really shouldn't have made this into an angle. Give the ECW fans their one show nostalgia event. See the response to it. Then see where to go from there. Now the core ECW fans , while interested, may not want to take the chance of plunking down $34.95 for an ECW show littered with invading WWE people. This whole thing just seems like it's being set up to fail. -
I've slacked badly on that whole thread. I've never even put up the links to my GCW pics

NWA No Limits Doubleshot Anniversary Weekend
Slingshot Suplex replied to a topic in General Wrestling
I think it's not too far inside Iowa from the Illinois border so maybe it's ok. Like in the Davenport area. -
I can visually verify that Gunn did indeed help with taking the ring down and loading it into the trucks in Herrin. I saw it when I was back talking to Ian and a couple others backstage. Didn't Gibson get booked in Japan and that's why he didn't appear in IWA the first go round?

Demolition in the future for WM 3 venue....

If you stay on Woodward Avenue in that stretch of downtown where the stadiums and the theater district are ....it's not too bad. Beyond that area, well.........
