Best Of The Monday Night Wars

If I remember correctly, Rude was working with the WWF without a contract, basically getting paid per appearance. So, WCW decided to give him a contract, and boom - he's on two shows on the same night. Of course, you could be right and I could be wrong, but I'm just shooting out what I remember. Jason

    Updated Flair DVD specs

They distorted it in recaps, IIRC, because the storyline was that the belt was going to be distorted from then on out (since they didn't have the big gold belt anymore). So, for continuity sake within the storyline (continuity, where has that word gone...), they distorted everything after Tunney made the announcement (including recaps of when he had the real big gold belt). Updated Flair DVD specs

It would, since when they distorted the title Flair was holding either a tag team title belt or IC title belt. They showed the NWA/WCW title belt as much as they could until Flair gave it back for some cash. Jason

Your local ballparks, arenas and football fields

United Center: Really nice facility, good place to watch a hockey (or NBA) game. The Stadium was better in the sense that it was more intimate, but this is good for a more modern place. 7/10 Wrigley Field: Seriously, the only thing that this place has going for it is the history. If you go into Wrigley without a knowledge of it being a "historical landmark" you'd leave right away because it's truly a dump. But, the history bumps it up quite a bit in the minds of lots of other people, and I rate my parks for the masses. 6/10 US Cellular Field: Pretty much one of the worst "new" ballparks built, but it does serve its purpose. The main complaint is that the upper decks are too slanted, and that the south side is the worse part of town. Both complaints are minor, since the south side isn't really that bad around "Comiskey." I actually like the Cell better than Wrigley as a ballpark, but once again I do rate for the masses. 5/10 Allstate Arena (former Rosemont Horizon): A good place to watch the Chicago Wolves, DePaul Blue Demons, or, of course, WWE. The fans in Allstate are the best at least in the Chicago area for having fun at events, and perhaps for wrestling, at least in the top 3 in the nation. Not too much in the way of ammenities, but not many are needed for college and minor league teams. 7/10 The minor league baseball parks: Awesome. The grassy seats, the atmosphere, all of it are really tremendous. And they're cheap tix, too. 7.5/10 I, myself, would rate Wrigley a 3/10 (because, as a park, it's crap) and the Cell a 7/10 (not really any bad seats, decent things to do other than the ballgame, just not anything above and beyond, so a "C" grade is adequate), but that's neither here nor there. Mexico beats US Olympic baseball team

I agree with everyone that a single elimination tournament is ridiculous for determining something as important as Olympic births for a sport such as BASEBALL, where even the worst major league teams win over 1/4 of their games. Absurd. And, what kind of tournament gives a team that was 0-3 in pool play a birth in the single elimination tournament because another team didn't show up? How fair is that to the 3-0 team, to have to play a game in a rightful bye spot. Of course, all these things are completely ridiculous, but the United States should have won. I can make these excuses, and no matter how stupid this tournament seems from the outside, they still needed to get the job done. They didn't. Jason

    Big Dick Jokes

Wrong thread. This thread's about how big your dick is, not how big your cock is. Get with the program. And, to stay on topic, my dick is so big that ABC asked me to hold their video cameras for their TV shows. They said I was the best tripod out there. Jason

    Survivor Series will be great!

I don't know if anyone else will ever get the push HHH got to the top ever again. From King of the Ring 1999, interfering in the WWF title match, to beating Rock in a strap match when Rock was really hot (although with interference), to not being pinned in the SummerSlam title match, to beating Foley for the title on Raw, to winning the Six-Pack at Unforgiven to regain his title, to beating AUSTIN (something almost nobody did) at No Mercy, and finally pinning Mick Foley three times on three straight PPVs in 2000. He only finally got over at the Royal Rumble when Foley made him a star. I don't think anyone else will ever get a push like that again to begin a main event career. Jason

    Smackdown Spoilers

It sickens me too, but if Jones and Morgan don't look like monsters until Survivor Series the match will have no heat, and whoever takes them down won't get any rub. Would I prefer a better bunch of workers? Yeah, but they're doing a good job with the hole they've dug themselves into. Jason

    Anything appealing at SurSer?

The blatently obvious problem with the Smackdown elimination match is the heel team. Big Show, A-Train, Nathan Jones, and Matt Morgan are all practically worthless. Brock Lesnar is the only person that is capable of putting on a *** match on the team (one-on-one). And, since the heel team is required by the formula to carry much of the offense and dictate the pace of the match, we're in trouble. Jason

    Anything appealing at SurSer?

If we get Guerreros v. Bashams, that could be good. Probably MOTN, but not anything worth calling home about. Jason

    HUGE *spoiler*

What's with everyone saying that Benoit won't draw? Guess what... nobody is drawing right now. No Mercy got what, 180,000 buys? Unforgiven got slightly higher because the card wasn't main evented by McMahon v. McMahon. Everyone's not drawing. So what's wrong with trying someone new, who despite not getting pushed at all still drew in a ton of new viewers (see the thread from a week or two ago from Meltzer)? If he doesn't draw, then he's in the same boat as everyone else. If he does, then the gamble paid off. Jason EDIT: Oops, forgot a 0 in the buyrate

    Smackdown Survivor match

The first two guys to get eliminated should be Holly and Bradshaw, preferably by Morgan and Jones. That way they can establish those two "monsters" early in the match and make it sweeter when they come down at the end. This leaves the match 5-on-3, and Jones should go rather quickly after that by pinfall to Cena. Morgan comes in, and he's gone soon as well to Cena. This gives Cena a big notice that he can take down monsters. We're now 3-on-3. After some action for 7 or 8 minutes at 3-on-3, Cena gets eliminated by A-Train after the Big Show chokeslams him behind the ref's back. This gives Cena a mini-program with A-Train to continue to December where Cena beats him on the "mini-PPV like" Smackdown. Now we have three monsters, two of which have titles, against Captain Angle and Other Guy Benoit. After about 3 minutes of beatdown on Angle (next guy in) after a 1 minute offensive session for Angle, he makes a comeback and gets A-Train to tap. 2-on-2. These guys fight for a while, 5 minutes or so, and eventually Kurt loses to Brock clean with the F5. Benoit has to deal with the U.S. Champ and the WWE Champ 2-on-1. After getting beat up for a while, selling the effects of not being able to tag anyone, Benoit gets the diving headbutt and crossface on Show for the tap. Benoit v. Brock is next. Eventually, after about 8 minutes of just solo action, Lesnar has the F5 ready when Benoit counters with a rollup victory. This sets up a 2 month build for a Royal Rumble title defense. Jason

    Final Raw for Jericho

If I remember correctly, he's been banned 5 or 6 times (TCR told me on AIM). And, if I'm wrong, so be it. But since this troll is likely someone who has been banned before, then I wanted to say goodbye before he was no longer a regestered user anymore. Only common courtesy. Jason

    Final Raw for Jericho

This all makes sense. Except Ric Flair was "past his prime" for his 1989 series with Ricky Steamboat and Terry Funk, if I remember correctly. He was 40. Oh, and Kurt Angle's prime ended two years ago. So Royal Rumble 2003 with Benoit, all the Smackdown 6 matches, and everything with him is "past his prime." His prime included OVW days, of course, silly me. Everyone's prime is different. But, while you're back, I think that I should say goodbye before you get banned again. Jason

Any big league sports stars from your hometown?

From the Chicago suburb where I used to live (until 6 years ago), the biggest name I ever heard coming from our town was Sal Fasano (MLB catcher, greatest fame in KC). I'm sure there are some (at least) from my current hometown, but I have no information. A cooler thing than all that, though, was that Walter Payton assistant coached basketball at my old high school for three years. Jason

People or things in sports that make you feel old

Someone that was on my baseball team in Little League was drafted by the Cubs in the 18th round this year. I was better than him in Little League, but it was obvious that he had way more athletic potential and a better arm. Jason

    White Sox fans can rejoice

This is our (the White Sox) final year to do something, for the most part, with the team we have. We wasted 6 of those years with Manual, but hopefully with someone else we can get some good things. If we can actually get to keep Colon, that will help tremendously (obviously). Apparently, Mags wants $10 million more over one less year than we can afford (or are willing to give him, but I lean more toward the afford part since Reinsdorf is no Steinbrenner or Tribune Company), so that would be a huge blow next year. Manny Ramirez

I'm not completely up to date on all the offseason rules, but can you trade for someone who is already a free agent and is thus not with any team? And like others have said already, they would be getting $100 million back in their account to go after people. Jason
