I hope Driscoll takes a Jack Bauer slug to the back of the skull just like Chapelle. She is 10x worse than he ever was. I'm looking forward to tomorrow. I hope Debbie gets smoked. Stalker.

They didn't need to do nearly as much. And they did much better by doing less than the Mets did. They gave Pedro Martinez one of the worst contracts ever. Beltran is good, but the salary is inflated; good thing the Mets can afford it. As for the Marlins, they were in a much better starting place than the Mets, so they didn't need to add nearly as much. And Al Leiter is the 4th starter, so don't act like they are counting on him to save the franchise.

It's now on ESPN.com mainpage. Looks like the Mets are really serious about getting 3rd place this year.

except Bernard Gilkey, Lance Johnson, and maybe Braden Looper Never use the words Braden Looper and greatness in the same sentence again. Ok? Thanks.

I attended the UNC-Maryland game today. Tarheels just looked incredible. The game wasn't as close as the score, and they still won by 30+. They were up 42 when the white boys came in and made turnovers on about 5 consecutive possessions. I am right behind the Carolina basket on Wednesday night for the UNC/Georgia Tech game, and I think GT is going to be the recipient of a simliar beatdown. UNC looks unstoppable lately.

That can't be true. No team is dumb enough to trade away a player the likes of Conor Jackson. I think Quentin's a little over-rated, but for Byrnes? Does Billy Beane know how to influence people or what?

All the Florida papers have reported the Marlins have made a 3 year offer to Carlos Delgado that surpasses $30 million dollars. He's said to be seriously considering it. Perfect. Anyone know off hand what left handed hitter had the most HRs in last year's Marlins lineup?? Juan Pierre. They need a left handed bat. This would move Conine back to the OF and put Juan Encarnacion on the bench where he belongs. Jason Stokes can wait or be traded, he seems to have girly wrists like Adrian Gonzalez did anyway. Also, the Marlins are about to finalize a 3 year, 18 million dollar deal with Paul LoDuca.

Take this with a large grain of salt, because I got this from Dan Shanoff's morning quickie. If you don't know who that is, he's the guy with the really nasally voice that was on ATH a few times a couple months ago. In short, he sucks, but his column has a cool format, so I still read it. Anyways, here's a new rumor. Hottest rumor? A.J. Burnett, in a potential trade with Florida for Boston's top SS prospect Hanley Ramirez (made dispensable if the Sox sign Renteria). Boston is also looking at Matt Clement and, least appealing, signing Derek Lowe, who everyone knows -- after THAT postseason -- is SO due to suck. In my opinion, you can't trade AJ Burnett and not get a pitcher of good quality back in return, but Hanley Ramirez and a pitcher would work!

I agree - looks like it may be fun.

I disagree. I thought Strong Sad's radio voice was fantastic, and anytime 1800s Strong Bad shows up it's amazing. Good effort this week. I just ordered the DVD - hopefully it's worth it.

Here you go... here is your signing for the day... Richie Sexson to the Mariners. Another little note: The Marlins are after Matt Clement or Odalis Perez for their 5th rotation slot.

See that quote in your sig?... Jadakiss stole that from Chris Rock.

Both articles from ESPN.com I'm not sure if he actually is elected to the Hall of just receives an award at the Hall Ceremony. The article makes it sound like just an award, but the comments from everyone else makes it sound like an actual bid to the Hall. I knew Gammons was the most influential sportswriter and also has the most sources, but I wasn't truly aware of how much of a pioneer and an influence he truly was. Good for him.

Talk about the perfect example of a post that adds absolutely nothing to the discussion. Way to go.

Dec. 12 - According to ESPN's Jayson Stark, the Cubs have kicked around the possibility of trying out Kerry Wood as a closer – if they can't obtain one elsewhere. The Cubs took a run at dealing for Danny Kolb but couldn't put that together. So their current plan is to give Ryan Dempster a shot at the closer's job. Manager Dusty Baker doesn't appear to be sold on that idea, though. Asked Saturday who his closer would be if the season started tomorrow, Baker replied, succinctly: "The season ain't starting tomorrow." "You need a closer," added Baker. "Where would the Dodgers be without (Eric) Gagne? Where would the Yankees be without Mariano Rivera? That's mandatory in baseball now if you're going to win." Baker wasn't asked about moving Wood into that role. But one scout who had heard of that idea said: "That has John Smoltz written all over it." BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

I just read an article in the Palm Beach Post that says the Yankees want AJ Burnett and since Carl Pavano is his best friend, he's game for the idea. Apparently, the Yankees would get AJ Burnett and the Marlins would get Vazquez, Felix Rodriguez, another player and about 10 million in cash. I don't know what to make of it, but my initial reaction is that I hope it doesn't happen.

What an awful band. I liked the show tonight, though, which probably means everyone else hated it.
-
That's my understanding of it. It didn't have that radical of a taste.
-
I think the movie looks awesome.

What in good God were the Braves thinking? Kolb is probably the worst closer this side of Braden Looper. Yes, Capellan struggled in his callup, but he throws 100 mph and pitched amazing in the Futures Game. As a Marlins fan, this has been the best transaction I've seen in the past few days. Way to go Braves.

I'm surprised no one has posted this here, but on another board I read that Edgar Renteria came to a 4 year 40 million deal with the Red Sox. Apparently boston.com reported it, but I haven't looked in to it.

Urgh. I hope Pavano becomes another in a long line of players who wilt under the New York spotlight. He only had one good year to begin with. I can deal with players leaving the Marlins, but I'll never like them again if they go to the Yankees. In the winter of '08, if the Marlins aren't smart enough to lock him up before then... I will have to deal with Miguel Cabrera's free agency, and if he goes to the Yankees... I may have a nervous breakdown.

Looks like ol' Billy ball found a way to get Youkilis after all. That would certainly be an interesting trade.

Thanks, guys. When I got the box I had a pipe dream of pulling a Babe Ruth or an Abraham Lincoln... knowing I only had a 1/16 chance of pulling a crappy cut sig of some dead player, no one had ever heard of. I opened it and saw a different border from the base cards... I immediately assumed it was a regular autograph of someone still alive, as I figured the Cut Signature would be bulky. Needless to say, I was thrilled to pull the Ashburn.

That was a very clutch post, TCR. You really know how to step it up in key situations. Happy b-day, Al. For your birthday, the Florida Marlins will get you a 2nd place finish next year.
