Well, if Carlos doesn't sign with the Marlins, I'd prefer he signed with Texas to keep him in the American League. What would they do with Teixeira if they signed Delgado? Doesn't make much sense to me. I still think the Marlins will increase their offer. They probably can't match 4/48, but hopefully they can get close enough and then persuade him with all of their other factors.

I didn't check trades either. I have five going on six with just free agents alone. I got a few of the trades correct as well.

If Delgado signs with Florida - I'll have six. I can live with that.

I heard that they offered 3/33 or 3/34, which is considered to be almost equal with the Marlins' offer of 3/35, because Florida's offer has a lot of deferred money. Completely false. Florida has no state income tax (don't live in FLA, so I can't verify but a few of the articles I read mentioned this), NY is 8%. Even deferred, he's getting more money in Fla.

Let's hope so, but I'm not so sure. Newsday reported that the Mets offered 4 years 45 million, which is substantially more than the Marlins offer.

I don't think Loria is an idiot. He has no morals, he did what was right for him and ruined an entire city's sports franchise because of it - but he is anything but an idiot. He spends his money wisely and ever since he became the owner payroll has increased by 20%. Speaking strictly as a fan of the Florida Marlins, he's been a terrific owner. Speaking as a fan of MLB, not so much.

I'm a big apprentice fan, but I have two problems with this season: 1) Far too close to last season. The break was negligible at best. I feel like it was just on two weeks ago. 2) I can see way too many petty annoying arguments taking place that go like this: "Book smart": Yeah, and what school did you go to again? "Street smart" I'm still a success, I'm fabulous. If you're so much smarter than me, why did I out perform you on this mission? "Book smart": Witty retort about how smart they are. "Street smart": Angry reply about how hard they work. It's gonna get old real fast.

While I agree that they are being quite cheap with $2 M a year, they've already pledged hundreds of millions - they are just asking for a little bit of help from the state. One more interesting point: They NEED a new stadium, as their lease with Dolphins stadium has been terminated and they will be forced to leave in 2010.

Agreed. He was one of my favorites for the night, with Ozzie Smiths son and the hot blonde girl that had a countryish voice being the other two.

Al, Help me out with that. Why would Beckett sign a one year deal? I understand why Burnett would, as he's in his 5th year and eligible for free agency after the season. Beckett, however, is in his 4th year of service, and can't be a free agent until after the '06 World Series. So what happens now? He's only signed for one year, but he's bound to the Marlins for 3 more years. Renegotiate after this season?

'91 and '92 were tough seasons for the Fish. They didn't win a single game. Well, that's how much of a loser I am. I picked them as my team from that moment on and patiently awaited their first game. Hell, I was 9 and 10 those years, what did I know. I was barely old enough for little league.

Well, actually 1991, because I didn't have a team before that. So, I just latched on from the very announcement of a team.
