River City Rocker Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 Track down and listen to Big Star's "Holocaust" if you can. No, it has nothing to do with WWII atrocities. Very depressing and very difficult to listen to. -Ben
Rendclaw Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 Ordinary Word by Duran Duran... I hear that song and its over for me. Drive by the cars used to do the same thing, the video was good because it showed Paulina Porizkova showing a hella range of emotion...
Guest saturnmark4life Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 I listen to The Smiths all the time, but music doesn't depress me as much as stimulate me, I'll probably feel better after listening to 'depressing' music than if I don't listen to anything at all, if that makes sense.
rising up out of the back seat-nuh Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 Agaetis Bryjun (the song) by Sigur Ros Emotional alcohol.
Guest Dangerous Back Drop Posted May 26, 2003 Report Posted May 26, 2003 Bloody Hell - a thread about depressing songs and ONE - 1!!! - mention of Joy Division?? What the-?!? People, just buy Closer and feel your serotonin levels get insanely cocked up. Goferit.
Guest Vyce Posted May 27, 2003 Report Posted May 27, 2003 "Tool" - Terrible Lie (It doesn't sound like Tool, but it claims to be Maynard, and it's depressing) It's not Tool. The song I think you're referring to is "Terrible Lie", which is a NIN song off of the "Pretty Hate Machine" album. Is the singer of the song directing his anguish towards God? If so, it's definitely NIN. Unless Maynard did a NIN cover and I don't know about it. For my money, nothing depresses me lately like Cash's cover of "Hurt." I find it hard to watch the video.
Guest DRAWMUH! Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 The acoustic version of "Creep" is SUCH a depressing song. Its floating around Kazaa.. Can't really pick just on song by them, but Our Lady Peace have a quite a few depressing songs. Nirvana - All Apologies Goo Goo Dolls - iris
Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Posted June 1, 2003 Report Posted June 1, 2003 "Richard Corey" - Simon and Garfunkel "Johnny 99" - Bruce Springsteen "Yesterday" - The Beatles "Behind Blue Eyes" - The Who
Guest Vyce Posted June 2, 2003 Report Posted June 2, 2003 Can't really pick just on song by them, but Our Lady Peace have a quite a few depressing songs. "4 a.m." is kind of a depressing song.
Guest saturnmark4life Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 Now I've finally got my hands on the Tom Waits releases from last year, I have to say that whilst not being much more than a piano ballad, 'Poor Edward' off 'Alice' does seem to depress me more than most 'depressing' songs have done in the past. Not sure why. Anyhow, this is the shit.
Guest LJSexay Posted June 5, 2003 Report Posted June 5, 2003 Can't really pick just on song by them, but Our Lady Peace have a quite a few depressing songs. "4 a.m." is kind of a depressing song. Bring Back the Sun by Our Lady Peace is the SADDEST OLP song.. EVER.
Guest two_tuff_toddy Posted June 7, 2003 Report Posted June 7, 2003 The most depressing song ever for me is "You're The Inspiration" by Chicago. That's only because it was me and my ex-girlfriends song and she was murdered by her sister while we were still together.
B. Brian Brunzell Posted June 7, 2003 Report Posted June 7, 2003 So I finally caved in and bought Evanescence's album. While listening to "My Immortal," I nearly wept. It immediately reminded me of my grandfather, whom I loved more than anyone this side of my mother and father. I thought about all of the things that I had done with him as a child, and how that even though he's gone, he still lives with me and my family.
Guest Mad the Swine Posted June 7, 2003 Report Posted June 7, 2003 Aerosmith Dream On John Lennon Imagine Queen All Dead, All Dead Teo Torriatte The Show Must Go On Platters My Dream Smoke Gets in Your Eyes Beach Boys 'Til I Die (they have an impressive array of depressing songs. this one, by far, is their saddest)
Guest Mad the Swine Posted June 8, 2003 Report Posted June 8, 2003 Forgot one. It's technically country - I don't know if George Jones originally recorded it, but that's the earliest version I've heard. Still, I've also heard a James Taylor cover of the song and decided to include it here. Bartender's Blues
