Depressing Songs

Recommended Posts

Track down and listen to Big Star's "Holocaust" if you can. No, it has nothing to do with WWII atrocities.

Very depressing and very difficult to listen to.

Ordinary Word by Duran Duran... I hear that song and its over for me.

Drive by the cars used to do the same thing, the video was good because it showed Paulina Porizkova showing a hella range of emotion...

I listen to The Smiths all the time, but music doesn't depress me as much as stimulate me, I'll probably feel better after listening to 'depressing' music than if I don't listen to anything at all, if that makes sense.

"Tool" - Terrible Lie (It doesn't sound like Tool, but it claims to be Maynard, and it's depressing)

It's not Tool. The song I think you're referring to is "Terrible Lie", which is a NIN song off of the "Pretty Hate Machine" album.

Is the singer of the song directing his anguish towards God? If so, it's definitely NIN. Unless Maynard did a NIN cover and I don't know about it.

For my money, nothing depresses me lately like Cash's cover of "Hurt." I find it hard to watch the video.

Now I've finally got my hands on the Tom Waits releases from last year, I have to say that whilst not being much more than a piano ballad, 'Poor Edward' off 'Alice' does seem to depress me more than most 'depressing' songs have done in the past. Not sure why. Anyhow, this is the shit.

The most depressing song ever for me is

"You're The Inspiration" by Chicago.

That's only because it was me and my ex-girlfriends song and she was murdered by her sister while we were still together.

So I finally caved in and bought Evanescence's album. While listening to "My Immortal," I nearly wept. It immediately reminded me of my grandfather, whom I loved more than anyone this side of my mother and father. I thought about all of the things that I had done with him as a child, and how that even though he's gone, he still lives with me and my family.

Forgot one.

It's technically country - I don't know if George Jones originally recorded it, but that's the earliest version I've heard. Still, I've also heard a James Taylor cover of the song and decided to include it here.
