In terms of racisim here, it is the same situation. Native Australians can get away with being drunken fucking criminals but the second a white person speaks out of tone to an Aboriginal then lawsuits start flying left and right.

I'm actually surprised sometimes that he's still here myself. But then I still can't forgive him for the whole suicide ordeal.

 

Oh, racism. I've never been racist, but I'm uncomfortable around a lot of strangers on the street in general (you know, walking around with my head down, kinda shifty eyed at people and such), and I'm worried that one day that'll be misconstrued as prejudice for race, creed, long unkempt beards, whatever. I've gotten a share of dirty looks back, and even apologized for it once or twice, but thankfully haven't been called a racist yet.

 

However, this brings up an argument I had with a friend of mine a few weeks ago in regards to the film Birth of a Nation. He's black and he says because of its content the film ties with Hedwig and the Angry Inch as the worst film ever made (I still can't figure out the connection...). I disagreed because (and I do believe this), the racist dialogue and black-faced stereotypes are so outdated and un-PC that it's impossible to take it seriously and be offended, rather that I was laughing out loud the entire time (which is true, although admittedly I didn't watch the whole thing because I was bored). He didn't seem to get what I was saying about why it was funny (I find such over-the-top stereotypes and propaganda laughable regardless of which group its against), and got so mad he had to hold himself back, saying I should run ahead otherwise he would beat my ass. I just said "Whatever dude" and walked away.

Does anyone know WHY the Ku Klux Klan burns crosses? I honestly don't get it. I had been under the impression that they were Christians - is that an incorrect assumption?

 

Cuz, I mean, if they were, then I don't think it would make sense to burn one of your major religous symbols.

 

But for all I know, I'm way off base, and to be honest, I don't feel like researching this myself, because I don't want to have to wade through pages and pages of white power crap in order to get a straight answer.

 

So, do any of you know?

Hey, I'm not denying the fact that a gigantic flaming cross sitting in your yard is enough to scare anyone - I just didn't see WHY they would do it, since it is a religous symbol, which is usually treated with respect.

I don't feel I have done anything that would be ban-worthy. I push the envelope of good taste no doubt, but I think I spoke rationally about my feelings in my 1st post. Had I came in and fired off the n- word and g- words and the other racial slurs without merit, then it could be regarded as flame baiting. I was merely being honest with my feelings and emotions. We live in a world with much hatred, prejudice (sp?) is something we all deal with. I was looked down upon and disliked for 15 years because I was over 300 lbs and our society looks down on obese people. Now I am 215 well proportioned pounds, and people act different toward me. These are the facts of the real world. So if you think ignoring the issues will make them go away (ie BAN PLZ!) then your only fooling yourself. Have a nice day.

I am not here to bait anyone at all, but damn, like I said earlier in this thread, I, to some extent, am racist. Even though I have several black, latino friends I would still have a fit if my little girl dated a black or latino man. Now, am I as bad as the jerk offs that burn crosses? I don't think so, but I am very weary of people who aren't white. I do give every individual I meet a fair shake, but if I see any of the sterotypes in that person a warning flag goes up and I never look at the person the same again.

Did I say I was proud to be racist? I just talked about my honest to goodness feelings toward the world. My parents and family in general are very old school thinking, so I picked up on this, and it became a reality of my personality. I don't hate people with just blind hatred, I can talk and befriend almost anyone. But beneath the surface, those tendecies are there.

Well, I've visited the more predominantly french regions of Canada, and can, with great certainty and no remorse, say that those people are a bunch of fucks. Other than that, my only contact with the french involved a rather cute exchange student who was fairly nice.

I have been to France many times, and yes some of them are cunts. But for the most part they are really nice people. Although i must be the only person who thinks that.
