What (if any) was Steve Austin's big surprise when he fought Jim Duggan at the 11/94 Clash of Champions.

 

I didn't have cable but used to watch Worldwide where the announcers were hyping a "Big Surprise" for Duggan by Austin as Stunning Steve was squashing The Lifeguard Steve Collins.

I'm a little fuzzy on exactly how it went down, but it was basically Money Inc. giving him shit about the loss to the Kid (did Dibiase try and hire him as a butler or something?). Razor then cost Ted a match with the Kid on an episode of Superstars or Challenge.

Razor turned face on the 7/19/93 episode of RAW. Money Inc had been insulting him for a while for losing his money to the Kid. Razor attacked them, and turned face, and went on to beat DiBiase at Summerslam.

I was thinking that it was originally going to be Marty Jannetty facing Michaels here and winning the title, but that was pushed back due to Jannetty leaving or whatever happened. Is it possible that was the plan and they just threw Tatanka in there, or was it always the plan to just have Tatanka win the feud/match the way he did?

 

2. Another feud question...what happened with Doink and Crush? Doink wins here, then ends up costing Crush the IC Title a few months later at KOTR 93. Did that feud have a real ending?

Good questions. As far as I know, neither feud ever had a real blowoff.

 

HBK moved onto his feud with Perfect, that basically lasted from WMIX to Summerslam. Doink and Crush continued, but after they switched Luger to babyface I think they wanted another big strong heel, so they switched Crush heel and had him feud with Savage. Of course they turned Doink face (a BIG mistake), so yeah...I don't think either feud ever had a proper blowoff.

 

And why _didn't_ Jannetty have a match at WMIX?

Well, they must have had Tatanka in mind for at least a little while because he pinned Shawn in a nontitle match and a 6-Man Tag Match . . . IIRC, both on SuperStars leading up to WMIX.

The "blowoff" was a match on Superstars in which Crush won via count-out after Doink left ringside. That was July 93 and I want to believe it aired before Crush being killed by Yoko (7/12) but I don't know that for sure.

According to Marty, it's because their RR match wasn't as good as it should have been and Shawn blamed it on Marty saying he was drunk. Vince believed him and let him go, but Perfect got him back after WMIX.

Here's a few ECW questions.Since we only got Hardcore TV in the UK I guess some of the answers involve ECW on TNN.

 

1.How did Doring and Roadkill turn face?

 

2.When RVD was the TV Champion did he get pinned in any Tag Matches or Non Title matches?

 

3.I know Jerry Lynn turned because he was frustrated with losing the World Title but did Lynn ever attack anybody or did he just go with Cyrus(From watching Hardcore tv it seemed like one week he was champ and the next week he was without the belt and with Cyrus)

 

4.When Tony Mamaluke first showed up in ECW I remember a few interviews where Little Guido said he would have to prove himself to be a member of the FBI, since Mamaluke lost his first couple of matches in ECW did they drop the storyline or did they do a backstage segment with Him being inducted into the group?

 

5.Did the Dudley Boyz ever fire Joel Gertner? I ask this because in the last 2 matches they had in ECW Gertner is nowhere to be seen.

 

6.Why did CW Anderson ever join Simon and Swinger?

 

7.Had RVD not gotten injured and he had won the World Title from Mike Awesome would he have vacated the TV Title(which he would have had for 2 years by this time) or would he have Unified the Belts Like Rhino did?

 

8.Any reason behind the way the Sandman was treated in 2000, I can only think of 2 matches that he won on TV in the whole of 2000(the match against Tajiri in the TV Tournament and one against Kintaro Kanemura) and he lost every match against Rhino.

Not unlike the "Black Scorpion" angle this was one where they just ran out of time to pull an actual good person for the gimmick, not that they didn't try as Kevin Sullivan was actually approached (rumored to be it included Ted DiBiase, Jake Roberts, amongst others)

 

Essentially the quintenssential Russo payoff. Give the audience great setups and interesting and intriguing angles, but with a major letdown or nonsensical swerve as the payoff

1) It didn't really "break up" but, rather, it slowly broke apart. Sid left in late 95. Tatanka was gone by spring 96. Kid was gone by spring 96, etc.

 

2) After Sid won the title shot, they had several week's worth of running into each other's matches on Raw to save the other person. Then, in a title match against Bulldog & Owen, HBK accidentally hit the superkick on Sid costing them the match.

1) I know he used a theme in the Sept 1989 MSG show but none at SummerSlam 1989 so I hope that helps narrow it down.

 

2) Owen and Vader were both managed by Cornette. Owen warned Ahmed (through commentary) not to touch his manager. Ahmed attacked Cornette so Owen made Johnson pay.

 

3) No idea.

 

4) Kayfabe, I think he was just given the night off. But I know he wrestled a dark match before the ppv. I want to say it was against Goldust, despite the fact that Goldust wrestled later on against Mero.

Why didn't the Jericho vs. Shamrock match happen at Unforgiven 99? I believe Shamrock was hurt, but he wrestled at the Smackdown before the show...so what happened?

Shamrock had a neck injury (IIRC) and had to back out. The Smackdown match (with Jericho in Hockey gear, I think) was just done to injure Shamrock and explain his absence from TV.
