The Old School questions thread

You mean the match with Bad News Brown? I think in kayfabe, the half-black thing was Piper's way of showing it didn't matter what colour your skin was (referring to Bad News claiming he was being held down).

Bad News said in his shoot interview that it pissed him off, and called Piper a racist.

1.) For Halloween Havoc, were the Spin The Wheel, Make the Deal matches actually random or were the results of Coal Miner's Glove / Texas Death Match already pre-determined as well?

2.) I heard Diesel and The Undertaker got into a kayfabe altercation during a backstage segment at IYH 5? Is this true and can somebody please give details?

3.) Something that always bugged me. According to the HBK / Diesel IYH 6 build-up video, "a year of being WWF Champion made Diesel miserable" - The WWF Storyteller. If that was the case, then why the hell was the match made with the title on the line?!!

4.) How did Page turn heel in 1999 as WCW Champion?

3. Nash as a Good guy listened to the office and smiled and kissed babies when inside Nash the bad ass just wanted to kick ass...

In storyline he was mad that the office made him soft

It was announced during the ppv that The Undertaker, off his win over King Mabel in a Casket Match, would challenge for the WWF Title at the Royal Rumble. Diesel, off his DQ loss to Owen Hart, was pissed since he never received a rematch.

I think it was a random spin at Havc 92, but because it was such a horrible spectacle they rigged the wheel in 1993. I'm not positive on that though.

Yeah, I think it was the night after he lost the title the first time, he gave that interview on RAW where he said he was sick of being "corporate" and was going to do things his way, etc. I was somewhat glad, since Diesel annoyed the hell out of me during his first WWF Title run.

Well, Nash has pretty much always annoyed me during his entire wrestling career, since he always gives off this "I'm too cool for wrestling" vibe.

4.) How did Page turn heel in 1999 as WCW Champion?

He just started acting like a heel after he won the belt at Spring Stampede, refusing title shots to Sting and Goldberg. There was no one moment where you could say he turned.

Think about that one for a second. Really.

One theory I remember being floated was that the match was rigged to be a steel cage match (since there was one above the ring and all), but that something must've screwed up, and it landed on the coal miner's glove match.

As an aside, has there ever been a GOOD coal miner's glove match in wrestling history? The only way I could see it being interesting if one of the wrestlers uses a heart punch or an iron claw as a finisher.

I've never seen a good coal miner's glove match (or a good anything on a pole match, for that matter).

Also remember that they had chains for the chain match and barbed wire for the barbed wire match backstage as well at Havoc 92. I don't recall seeing any of that in 93.

Dibase and duggan had a good coal miner's glove match in mid south. It was the match that had every gimmick possible in a cage.

I have a Dibase/Williams vs Guerrero brothers banderllo(sp?) on a pole match from Mid south. It was a good bloddy brawl. Also the Fantastics vs Bill Dundee and Dutch Mantell bullwhip on a pole match where Dutch takes the insane bump. Mid south was great at gimmick matches.

Question:

Why was Tarzan goto at some ECW show vs Axl Rotten in 1996? I think it was Heatwave or Hardcore Heaven 96.

One man Gang had a very brief stint in ECW as a member of the Full Blooded Italians. - his Wiki entry

I don't recall him being in the FBI - (not a ECW fan though) all i recall is his jobbing to Spike.

Goto worked for the IWA promotion in Japan and ECW had a working relationship with them.

And I cannot believe that some people think the wheel spin for the Spin the Wheel deal might have been legit.

^ Well, out of all those great stipulations that had for 92, I seriously can't fathom that they actually settled on COAL MINER'S GLOVE to be the one.

One rumor I'd heard is they gimmicked the wheel incorrectly.

That's what I was getting at. I think that the wheel actually malfunctioned, though there's no way to verify that.

What happened during the First Blood Barbed Wire Steel Cage Match between Flair and Hogan at Uncensored 1999? Flair got busted open first, then Hogan, but the match kept going. Did they forget about that stipulation?

Charles Robinson was the referee and saw to it that his favorite wrestler, Ric Flair won. He went on to become Lil Naitch and was in Flair's stable over the summer of that year.

Does anyone remember which wrestler it was whose claim to fame prior to wrestling was that he was a roadie for Milli Vanilli? I swear I remember hearing this, but I can't remember who it was.

Pretty sure it was Vampiro.

EDIT: Hey, look at that, I completely forgot I had him as my avatar.

It was around that time Hogan was getting liked by the WCW fans again so basically the match became a double turn with the match continuing even though Flair should have lost considering it was under the First Blood stipulation. I think they half assed explained it afterwards that you had to be busted open first in order to lose by pinfall or submission. Some shit like that.

That was a great PPV build on TNT and TBS because the announcers weren't allowed to say "Blood" on the air per turner's standards.

Tony and the crew had to keep saying "Check WCW.com for details of the matches grumsome stipulation" or somesuch

wow I dont even remember that, show syou how exciting wcw was in 99 (then again wwf was just as bad, well wrestling wise-at least wcw still had good CW matches)

DDP actually kindsa turned heel before he won the title, he returned (he ha dleft after superbrawl when scott steiner beat him up) at a nitro in march or april and had an attitude and didnt like Tenay caling him "the peoples champ" (which they had been calling him for along time when he was a face) He fought Hogan that night and junk happened. after he won the title he faced steine ron nitro, so he wa stsill sorta face, but basicall was full heel after that, leading into Slamboree against Nash-who turned face for this

yes it is complex
