Guest Breetai Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 Explanation Of Poor Finish To RAW Main Event Posted By Ashish on 06.03.03 Something didn't go as planned... The finish to the HBK/Kevin Nash/Hurricane vs. Triple H/Ric Flair/Randy Orton match on RAW did not go as planned. The match was supposed to end with the Hurricane getting the pinfall victory. However, ref Earl Hebner forgot what the finish was set to be and instead of counting 1-2-3 for the Hurricane's cover, he made it a two count. Realizing he made an error, he then just called the match off. WWE officials were disappointed at the error, but aren't mad at Hebner. Credit: PWTorch.com How. Fucking. Bush. League. Of course the best thing to do in such a situation is to make sure the jobber becomes the jobbee and vice-versa, and also to make sure that a pedigree ends it.
Guest WhenDanSaysJump Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 OMG ERAL HENBNERR IS HOLDING HURRRIKAYNE DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!~~~!!!~!~!~!~!~!!!!1!!!!! Seriously though, what the hell is someone with Earl's experience doing screwing up like that? And not even helping them put together a new finish and just calling a halt to the match? Tsk.
Guest jester Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 I wonder who Hurricane was supposed to pin? Was Hunter going to do his generous Pinfall-in-a-Tag-Match-Before-Squashing-Opponent-at-a-PPV routine?

Guest oldschoolwrestling Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 I hate Hebner and his stupid 2 counts. You can always tell when its only going to be a 2 count. He did this same stupid thing with Rock-Angle a couple years back on ppv. Rock did a Rock Bottom and pinned Angle. He counted 2 and they had to do the spot over again. Dumbass.
Guest Ace309 Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 I dunno, I thought his shining wizard to Orton had 3-count all over it.
Guest bravesfan Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 A Hurricane win was probably building up to a match between Helms and ___ (Flair? Orton?), at the Insurrextion PPV this Saturday, where <insert heel> would get the job back. Helms will the get the win at Insurrextion against <insert heel> because of this, which will probably rectify the whole situation.
Guest notJames Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 Maybe someone (Nash) was supposed to save Hurricane from Orton's pin, but had trouble getting to the spot since his knees are strawberry Jell-O™ at this point. Regardless, someone like Hebner should have had the wherewithall to cover for them. If he knew the spot was botched, he should have signalled Helms to kick out at two. Of course if he did and Helms couldn't hear it, Orton should have picked him up. Either way, I blame the Clique.
Guest Dynamite Kido Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 I thought there was an injury or something. Why the hell wouldn't they just ad-lib a quick ending or something? That looked like shit last night!!!!!

I always thought that was Angle's error for not kicking out on time. It did a lot to strengthen Angle's character for me, but 4 months later he was wearing a silly hat so fuck it.
Guest Downhome Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 I told you it wasn't fucking Nash's fault. The problem wasn't with the mistake, that happens more than you know. The issue was the way they failed to cover up for it.
Guest webmasterofwrestlegame Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 It human error - he forgot the finish. God knows wrestlers mess up enough.
EL DANDY~! Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 Yes, it's human error. I just find it really funny to know that they couldn't do a mess-up like this earlier, it just had to be in the main event when the wrong person went over anyways. It's stuff like this that makes me realize how much WWE really IS turning into WCW.
LooseCannon25 Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 You know...not for nothing, but Hebner fucks up quite a lot for someone who is the senior official and been around for so long. I can't freakin stand him between that and making him look like some sort of tough guy all the time.

I can't freakin stand him between that and making him look like some sort of tough guy all the time. Tis true. ...the only referee who seemingly stands up for himself. ...the only referee who has the balls to disqualify wrestlers for ref bumps....IN TITLE MATCHES ON PAY-PER-VIEW.
Mecha Mummy Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 Regardless, someone like Hebner should have had the wherewithall to cover for them. If he knew the spot was botched, he should have signalled Helms to kick out at two. But, dude... it's the PEDIGREE. Hurricane isn't kicking out of the Pedigree, it's common sense. ... The Pedigree is a REALLY stupid finisher name, now that I think about it. Maybe it was all right for the Blueblood character, but...
Guest KingOfOldSchool Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 "It human error - he forgot the finish. God knows wrestlers mess up enough." True. But on a live show, there is no room for error. Especially not one of that magnitude. And especially since he didn't even have the presence of mind to try and cover for it or try and orchestrate a new finish. That last sentence is part of the ref's job, after all. "... The Pedigree is a REALLY stupid finisher name, now that I think about it. Maybe it was all right for the Blueblood character, but..." It's a better name now that Triple H has become the Ric Flair rip-off. But during his late DX days going into his Game/Cerebral Assassin jean jacket phase, it was a terrible name.
Guest Kid Kablam Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 It human error - he forgot the finish. God knows wrestlers mess up enough. True, I would let it slide no prob, but it's just one of many cracks in the dike that we're seing, and the cracks are getting WCW sized.
Guest Trivia247 Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 pooor hepner he is losing his marbles.
Guest KJ Brackish Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 I don't blame him too much, but when I heard that bell ring... it brought back Montreal all over again. I felt a little tear well up inside. DFA
Mecha Mummy Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 The problem was that there wasn't even an attempt to cover it up or anything. The announcers tried to have it relate to the referees being scared of HHH, but that still doesn't make any sense whatsoever...
LooseCannon25 Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 Would it have been so hard to whisper to Hurricane to pick the shoulder up? Wrestlers mess up alot but they have MUCH more to do. All a ref has to do is make sure the finish is orchestrated correctly. And he couldnt even improvise on that
Mecha Mummy Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 Or Orton could have gotten up and decided to punish Hurricane some more and that would lead to Helms rolling him up or chokeslamming him or whatever.
Guest godthedog Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 this would be a good time to offer my endorsement of charles robinson for new senior official. he don't fuck up, kept working when his wife died & takes a bump like a MANLY MAN.

Lil Naitch for Senior Official! That would rule! Nick Patrick is on Raw also, isn't he? They'd both work fine. And yeah, Robinson took a nice bump last night.

Along with Nick Patrick and Mike Chioda, the best in the biz.
LooseCannon25 Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 Robinson, Patrick, Chioda are all good.....what happened to Tim White, i thought he was pretty good also. Robinson is the master of ref bumps. That apear he tool last night was lethal looking. I dont like how they all are booked to look like pussies but Hebner looks like the superman of all referees
Astro101 Posted June 3, 2003 Report Posted June 3, 2003 According to PWTorch... Sources say the finish of Raw's main event tonight was supposed to be Hurricane getting pinned at the time the match ended. It was just a case of veteran official Earl Hebner forgetting for a brief moment that that was supposed to be the finish. He was expecting a kick out, and when it didn't come, he did the ol' stop the count and indicate that the shoulder was off the mat routine. Then he realized that was actually supposed to be a three count and got up and called for the bell. WWE officials were disappointed that it happened, but forgiving for the human error on Hebner's part. -------------------------------------------------------- I think 411 just worded it wrong.
