Mrnoitaull 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2003 MTV has decided to try it again with a topic that has caught my interest a little more than the first, 22 Greatest MCs. But you can pretty much predict who's going to be in that top 22 here's mine:(in no order) Eminem Snoop Dogg Dr Dre LL Cool J Jay Z Tupac (which I beleive is going to be #1) Notorious B.I.G. Nas Method Man Missy Elliot Busta Rhymes Rakim RUN DMC(#1 if not Tupac) Will Smith(belive it or not) Mos Def Outkast Master P Redman KRS ONe Lil Kim Scarface DMX Ja Rule(unfortunately) and maybe even Fifty Cents but give us your incite or any other options
Guest Tha Cunnysmythe Report post Posted June 19, 2003 Dr Dre LL Cool J Missy Elliot Busta Rhymes Mos Def Lil Kim Ja Rule(unfortunately) and maybe even Fifty Cents The above names should be far, far from the list. I'm going very easy on Snoop because I think Doggystyle's the best album ever, and also on Will Smith because he used to be mad nice with his.

Guest ant_7000 Report post Posted June 19, 2003 (edited) My list of 23 MC's No order: 1. Biggie 2. Pac 3. Rakim 4. Big Daddy Kane 5. Slick Rick 6. Jay-Z 7. Eminem 8. Nas 9. Andre 3000 from Outkast 10. Mos Def 11. Method Man 12. Redman 13. KRS One 14. Chuck D 15. Ice Cube 16. D.O.C. (To bad he got in a car accident and lost his voice, but he did Ghostwrite for Dre during the Chronic years.) 17. Grandmaster Flash 18. Kurtis Blow 19.LL Cool J (Only because his longevity and his battle skills) 20. Canibus 21. Scarface 22. Run DMC 23. Black Thought I didn't pick Snoop because he's only a one album wonder, Didn't pick Dr. Dre or P.diddy because MC's have to WRITE THEIR OWN RHYMES. But knowing MTV they'll make Eminem G.O.A.T and then add Ja Rule and 50 Cent on the list for popular reasons. I stayed away from nominating Groups because this indvidual.(So no Beatie Boys) Honorable Mention: Busta Rhymes Queen Latifah Laruyn Hill MC Lyte DMX Ghostface Killah Guru Edited June 19, 2003 by ant_7000
Guest Ripper Report post Posted June 19, 2003 Man, Will Purdue played in the NBA, that doesn't make him one of the greatest ballers. L.L. Cool J is well over a decade since his last good album (14 shots to the dome was one of the worst pieces of shit ever) and if you ever really listened to all of Kool Mo Dee's diss tracks to LL, he won, LL just had more fans due to his looks (99% of his fans where high heels). He beat Ice-T but come on...It was ICE FUCKING T... And to the people that don't think Redman deserves to be on that list, he is just like scarface. He has been putting out incredible albums for years with no one noticing. Before he did "how high" with method man (which propelled him into the mainstream) classics like Whut? The Album were out there and were fucking incredible. Redman and Face are two of the best ever and never get props for it. Red was doing what Eminem does when Shady was in high school. (BTW, ask Em who the best ever is...) And ANT...whut up with the no Roots love?
The Dames 0 Report post Posted June 19, 2003 (BTW, ask Em who the best ever is...) *Ahem* An excerpt from Eminem's "Til I Collapse". Guest Kibagami Report post Posted June 19, 2003 No order to these. Common (before ?uestlove got hold of him) Andre 3000 Mos Def Talib Kweli Aceyalone Rakim Nas Chuck D. KRS-One Jay-Z (though I think his work since Reasonable Doubt has been debatable.) Del tha Funkee Homosapien Eminem (He's becoming influential, like it or not.) Notorious B.I.G. Slick Rick Grandmaster Flash Tupac Guru These are the only names I know well enough to say that they should truly be considered the 'greatest'. There's several rappers I haven't heard enough of (Jeru the Damaja) or haven't been prolific enough (Chino XL) for me to make a judgement on their overall talent. K. Chino XL...ahhhh...so much potential...so much time spent trying to diss EVERYBODY to get anywhere. He will forever be that dude that freestyles all the time on the Wake-up show now. I would have had Common on my list but I just couldn't due to his funkadelic style now (Although I Used to Love H.E.R. and Bitch in You should shove him very close to the top. Del will be there if his body of work grows (or I hear more of his stuff...which ever comes first) cause dude is hot.

While I did like Electric Circus, it's nowhere near his previous two albums. I pretended I hadn't heard it yet for the purpose of this list, because I finally got a copy of Resurrection last week and I've been listening to it nonstop. Damn you and your funk and your general ruining of Common's career, ?uestlove. Damn you straight to hell. K.

Guest Kibagami Report post Posted June 20, 2003 I've never understood the Canibus love. He's an excellent battle rapper, but that'll only take you so far if you can't tell a story, which leads him to such conceptual disasters as 'C' True Hollywood Stories. Even on Mic Club: The Curriculum, which I consider his strongest release, the tracks are only vaguely coherent. Canibus focuses too much on impressing people with his vocabulary, while somebody like Kweli or Guru has the ability to tell a story in the context of a song and uses his vocabulary to improve the track, not make the track by itself. Guest La Parka Es Mi Papa Report post Posted June 20, 2003 All I've heard from Canibus is his verse on 4,3,2,1 and the LL Cool J diss with Mike Tyson on it, the name of which escapes me at the moment. But he didn't impress me a great deal on either one.

How could you say thta LL should be far away from the list? I'd put MC Lyte on the list. Best. Female rapper. Ever.
Guest spiny norman Report post Posted June 20, 2003 If rappers are allowed on the best vocalists list, how come they have their own separate list here? How stupid. I hope Vanilla Ice wins, he's the only one I can stand.
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Report post Posted June 21, 2003 Nas Jay-Z The Notorious B.I.G. Tupac KRS-One Rakim Method Man Scarface ( One of the most UNDERRATED MC's out of anybody on this list ) E-40 Redman ( Read Scarface ) MC Lyte LL Cool J ( Face it, he's been around longer than most of these cats in the game ) Snoop Dogg Mos Def Talib Kweli ( Why doesn't he get any love ? ) Big Daddy Kane DMX Dre 3000 Honorable Mention: Queen Latifah Jadakiss :: Walks up to the Mic :: Ahem... 50 Cent is GARBAGE. The only reason he would make this list is because of his popularity at the moment. That is all... GET OFF OF CANNIBUS' NUTS. He can battle ( I'll give him that ) BUT, THAT DOESN'T MAKE HIM ONE OF THE BEST RAPPERS EVER.
Guest Midnight Express83 Report post Posted June 22, 2003 With Run DMC retired as of Nov 1, 2002.... LL Cool J is the LONGEST running MC solo/group out there right now...almost 20 years baby. Canabus sucks, bottom line. He tries to hard to be "smart". 50 Cent is good, but right now he isn't the greatest. Best flows on his CD were by Eminem. Bleek sucks, I give him credit when he can have more than 4 songs on a CD without Jay-Z on it. The Understanding seemed like a Jay-Z CD. Mc Lyte is one of the greeatest female rappers of all time. Queen is the first so will get the higher nod on the MTV list. Kurtis Blow gets on it because he was the first rapper to go gold. And his songs were boarder line RnB with more singing than rapping.
