They're a wannabe DEF LEPPARD, and it truly doesn't get much worse than that.

Waitaminnit, what pray tell is wrong with Def Leppard?

I hate quoting other posters, but Kinetic put it perfectly in the "Make Contentious Statements.." thread in the classic folder. To paraphrase, Def Leppard is the musical equivalent of plastic laminate, and every single sound they make is meaningless and artificial.

Personally, I think they're like generic cheese singles. They don't even have the originality and good taste of Kraft. Their entire fortune and fan base relies on their image, and the fact that everything is so simple and easy to digest, thus making it marketable. The vocals are unspeakably horrible, the lyrics are repetitive and mean absolutely nothing (just like Saliva), and the riffs aren't even as good as cheesepop hair rock contemporaries like Kix, Saigon Kick, and maybe even The Bulletboys.

Despite all of these faults, they're wildly successful, which just makes me want to vomit. They don't have one redeeming quality to justify album sales.

To draw a parallel, Saliva does the exact same thing in terms of formula:

1. Image

2. Marketable Cheesy Pop Hooks

Neither of those things involve talent, creativity, or musical knowhow. Just the right look, and the right marketing. They're more like Coca Cola, and less like a band.

I'm sorry, but i seriously dont think any band is worse than Papa Roach, I just mean, wow

and I also HATE the white stripes (I know everyone thinks they are the greatest band in the world yada yada)

their drummer has one arm. that's a redeeming factor.

im starting to think G-Unit member Llyod Banks is better than 50.

He is.

''Til I Collapse' from Eminems latest.

"Til I Collapse" is awesome. The best song on The Eminem Show. The only track that even challenges it is "Say What You Say".

He's verse on "Don't Push Me" was the best verse on that song.

Nope. Eminem's was.

So basically, you've described about 95% (minimum) of the musical acts on radio today, and in essence, Def Leppard is no better or no worse than anyone else. Save for the fact that they haven't actually had an original song since about 'Hysteria'.

I can deal with that.

THOU SHALL NOT MENTION DEF LEPPARD WITH SALIVA IN THE SAME SENTANCE

Saliva is more Cinderella if anything.

No, they're not the new Cinderella, but only because the new Cinderella is Linkin Park.

Well, yes that does describe about 95% of modern rock radio, but there's a difference. Some of that 95% has at least a lick of talent, or maybe even a decent song. Mudvayne might suck overall, but at least they've got a decent bass player, which ranks them over say, Puddle of Mudd and Saliva.

Exactly...

some can say CREED sucks but I don't lump them with Saliva and Puddle because

A) The lyrics are little more different the nu metal crap we're getting and some thought seem to been put into it

B) Tremonti can play that AXE...

C) Stapp channels Jim Morrison...Wes Scalin channels the dead corpse of Cobain...

I think it would be more accurate to say Stapp rips off Morrison.

I wouldn't lump them in with Puddle of Mudd and Saliva because Creed plays more middle of the road-friendly kind of stuff, considering their subject material isn't about being uncreative and mad, or smacking someone's ass. I really can't stand Creed at all, and find their music to be equally as cheesy as the rest, but everyone in the band for the most part is a decent musician.

At least they can do a better ballad then Saliva...

Which if forced to would you play for your Girl?

With Arms Wide Open and Lullby Or Saliva's EPIC "Rest in Pieces"?

Why does everyone have say something like that and just can't answer the question straight?

Creed has huge comic value, (especially in the videos) placing them above the other shit. For that reason only.

Creed has a GREAT live show believe it or not...

Because it's true. I'm enough of an asshole to not date a girl that listens to radio drek.

I think that's a BIG part of why I don't get any action, but it's not like I can help it.

Don't get me wrong though, I've got other criteria. I could illustrate this better if I could draw a Venn diagram, since I like visual aids and all, but the circle for "annoying drunk chick who may or may not be good looking" often coincides with the "pop rock radio" circle.

Just give me 30 minutes with a radio and I'm sure I'll find you a load of crappy songs real fast.

Godsmack, Linkin Park, Chevelle, Stoned Sour, Staind, and probably any other band that makes the MTV "rock" countdown would also be notable mentions for this.

A station that requires CanCon, such as Q107 in Toronto or Y108 in Hamilton...

We're talking current mainstream radio and music here, thus the topic. I think it's fairly obvious that with a radio and 30 minutes, you'll find enough shit being played over a large span of stations that you'll have some left over.

Out of all the bands you listed, BLS is the only one that released an album in 2003. It's not the worst, but I find it pretty underwhelming.

Sum 41 speaks for themselves in their ability to suck.

Of course if you listen to classic rock radio or all rock radio you'll stumble upon the occassional Pink Floyd or Black Sabbath song.

I also hate The White Strips, and their counterparts(Hives, Vines, Strokes).

I'm also trying to figure out if the band that does the "Hate to Say I told You So" song is trying to be The Knak or The Beatles, as a matter of fact they ALL sound like they're trying too hard to be the next Beatles.

Visually and Musically they are all alike.

The Strokes are the worse becuase they jerked the music scene forever hyping themselfs as the New Beatles/Stones/Nirvana Hybrid...

They hyped it like they would reach out of the stereo and give you a hand job...

when all it sounds like is a bunch of whiny pricks getting raped...

The Strokes were definetley hurt by overhype, calling them the greatest rock band since the Rolling Stones, and other such crap. But that doesn't take away from the fact that Is This It is a just a great rock album.

The Hives and The Vines are relatively derivative, but The White Stripes really have great songwriting combined with an original sound. I dig them.
