Guest Vitamin X Report post Posted August 7, 2003 For chill-out music, try Agalloch. Don't forget Cryptopsy, Nile, Darkthrone, Immortal (RIP), Morbid Angel, and Kataklysm if they count. I also like Six Feet Under, but that's just me...

Guest The Metal Maniac Report post Posted August 7, 2003 To be slightly more specific, download these songs: Iced Earth - A Question of Heaven In Flames - Ordinary Story If you like those tunes, then there's more good ones by each band to be had. Oh, and check out From Autumn to Ashes. They're pretty good, if somewhat bizarre. And go buy every Iron Maiden CD right now. NOW.
Guest Choken One Report post Posted August 7, 2003 Refer to my Gimmick... but they aren't your typical "METAL" band...yet it's debut album is considered a landmark metal album... I'd re'co them but not under those pretenses...
Rendclaw 0 Report post Posted August 7, 2003 heh, just before the crackdown, I downloaded a TON of Iced Earth in a serving room... I haven't found a song that I don't like yet.
Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Report post Posted August 7, 2003 I'll keep it short. Corpsevomit The Berzerker... more gabber/grindcore, but close enough.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted August 7, 2003 Young one, you seek to brave the quest of myriad metyl genres? Then take up your sword and choose thy path. There is the rolling plains and dark labyrinths of power metal, most notably Iced Earth, Maiden, Manowar, maybe Blind Guardian, too. I hate Power metal. Personally, if you're trying to ease yourself away from stuff you're getting frustrated with, there's no better place to start than Acid Bath-When the Kite String Pops. An incredibly diverse album full of good song after good song. No growling to be found on here. Death metal is a tricky thing to approach, because some folks recommend utter shit like Six Feet Under. Under no circumstances should you listen to any Chris Barnes-led band to get an opinion on brutal death. Download the Following: Cryptopsy-"Slit your Guts" Dying Fetus-"Pissing in the Mainstream" Nile-"The Blessed Dead" Morbid Angel-"God of Emptiness" Four good examples, with different approaches to the same genre. Grind bands: Suffocation, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Nasum...hell, Just go to relapse.com and pick anyone but Bongzilla. Cephalic Carnage, Mastodon, The Dillinger Escape Plan, and The Berzerker are all top-fucking-notch. Black metal: Not my cup of tea either. I dig Emperor, Venom, some Immortal, and Dragonlord isn't too bad. Other weird shit: Neurosis-"A sun that never sets" Synnichrosis Fantomas

NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted August 7, 2003 Amon Amarth is great metal out of Europe. I saw them co-headline with Deicide, and they are coming to my town in October.

Guest Agent of Oblivion Report post Posted August 8, 2003 ^Oh my god it's the nether realm version of me. Nothing but power metal and majestic bands..DrainYou, if you hate everything I suggested, you'll probably LOVE this guy's stuff, and vice versa. Six Feet Under is good for beginners. It's kind of like the Tonka "My First Metal Band". I completely disagree. No one should bother with Six Feet Under, they're really boring, with weak riffs, haggard lousy vocals, stupid lyrics, and simplistic retard drums. Someone just hearing some edgier stuff for the first time needs to completely immerse and confuse themselves. I maintain that Acid Bath is the best way to go, as their first album literally has something for everyone, and it's a cd where my favorite track changes almost every time I listen to it. They have an uncanny ability to be diverse and yet hold things together. Besides, every member has offshoot bands and side projects, most of which are pretty decent, varying all the way to fucking great. Gotta love that swamp metal scene...Acid Bath, Goatwhore, Soilent Green, Crowbar, Down, Eyehategod, et al... Awesome shit. 6FU is just Barnes being a dumbass, getting stoned all the time and making some extra cash. Check out some early Cannibal Corpse, most of which is fairly ok. It's a better example of Barnes' vocals, with better music surrounding him.
