Youth N Asia Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 including New York City, and other cities including Cleveland, Ohio, and Detroit, Michigan Not much else to say...but major backouts in big cities.
Youth N Asia Posted August 14, 2003 Author Report Posted August 14, 2003 Clouds of smoke in New York now
Justice Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 Maybe. Power went out here (I'm 30 miles north of Detroit) for only a few minutes. I was watching Pulp Fiction at the time with my bro. Felt weird as hell since there's a clear sky around.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 No problem here in Maryland. I do live relatively near Baltimore/Washington DC/Philladelphia though. Eh..Newslfashes gone mad on Totalfark..
Edwin MacPhisto Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 New York, Toronto, Ottawa, Syracuse, Detroit, Cleveland, Hartford, and Albany are all out. Very strange. The Port Authority is being effected too. Are a bunch of locations linked to one or two central power areas? It's kinda kooky.
Dr. Tyler; Captain America Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 Whoa, chaos is breaking out in some of these cities. This gives me a bad feeling.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 A New York plant is down and has had a "cascading effect" on the national grid. Let's just hope they get something fixed before nightfall.
Youth N Asia Posted August 14, 2003 Author Report Posted August 14, 2003 I'm about an hour from Detroit...we lost power for a split second...but that's about it.
Justice Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 Seems like it's just a power surge in the North-Eastern Power grid. No terrorism.
Dr. Tyler; Captain America Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 CNN is reporting people are stuck in the NY subways...
Youth N Asia Posted August 14, 2003 Author Report Posted August 14, 2003 With people in subways, and darkfall coming soon. Maybe it could be terror. Maybe that's why the power surge happened. I dunno
EricMM Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 "scientific progress goes 'boink' " How many days have these power systems worked? Thousands. Eventually they have to fuck up ... Still sucks, but I don't THINK it's terrorism, or if it is, not the explosive type.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 They say it isn't terrorism, but now the terrorists know that if you knock out one major power station in the northeast, you can blackout the whole region. Hmm.
Youth N Asia Posted August 14, 2003 Author Report Posted August 14, 2003 Probably not terrorism...but they were saying another attack before 9.11, so people are a little jumpy.
Bruiser Chong Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 I was wondering why my Cubs game was being interrupted every couple of minutes for a little while.
MarvinisaLunatic Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 Man, it would piss me off to have to walk home in that crowd.
Guest webmasterofwrestlegame Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 The news here in England has reported that a power station in New York is on fire and the people that run your (as in, the US) country are saying it is not related to terrorism. Though I find it both worrying and funny that so many of your cities have been affected by one power station.
Guest Eagan469 Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 Many of my TV channels are out, but ESPN and a few others still come in.
Dr. Tyler; Captain America Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 They're now saying that this is a "natural occurence" and it isn't terrorism related. I think the more important point, though, is that we do need to put people on these power stations and secure them; I remember reading a while back that they're very vulnerable. If this is what happens when something small goes wrong, imagine what would happen if it was destroyed.
Cartman Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 Oh like they didn't know that before! Remember our school systems are training these terrorists...er...nevermind
Guest Eagan469 Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 OH SHIT - it was the Niagara power grid they're saying on CNN that's like the whole northeast, but I'm 40 mins. from there and I'm fine here weird
MarvinisaLunatic Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 I find it funny that parts of Canada are blacked out as well.
Dr. Tyler; Captain America Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 *resists "51st state" joke*
Justice Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 They say it isn't terrorism, but now the terrorists know that if you knock out one major power station in the northeast, you can blackout the whole region. Hmm. Well no shit. Hell, wasn't it a Nuclear Powerplant in Pennsylvania the target of the plane that went down on 9-11? Powerplants have always been a target. But you think after this that we are going to just say "Oh well, back to our daily lives..."? No, they'll up security, improve and reinforce the power grid, and other things now. Thankfully this happened by accident before the terrorists could use this against us.
Guest Eagan469 Posted August 14, 2003 Report Posted August 14, 2003 Niagara Mohawk serves both the Northeastern US and Southern Ontario This is crazy - they're saying people are stuck on elevators all over AND LOOK AT THE PEOPLE ON THE STREETS IN NEW YORK! This is just insane.
