Aero 0 Report post Posted August 17, 2003 A radio advertisement in the Detroit Free Press announced the main event for Tuesday’s SmackDown taping in Detroit. According to the ad, Zach Gowen will take on Brock Lesnar with Vince McMahon as the special guest referee. Billy Kidman turned on Rey Mysterio last night at the Minneapolis house show, attacking him after their three-way match with Shannon Moore. This marks the beginning of the Rey/Kidman feud; however, the last I heard is that they will not be competing at SummerSlam, although things could change at the last minute. Vince McMahon pulled a no show at his own house show last night in Minneapolis at the Target Center. McMahon was heavily promoted on local television advertisements for a month and it is unknown as to why he was not there. Spanky, Nunzio, and Ultimo Dragon were also listed on the original card, however, did not appear. John Cena was promoted to take on the Undertaker, but only cut a promo and took an F5 from Brock Lesnar. A-Train, who wasn’t even advertised for the show took Cena’s place against Undertaker in order for the two to run through their SummerSlam bout. Source: PWTorch & Rajah -------------------- Guess that means no TWGTT vs. Rey & Kidman for Summerslam. Anyone else think that they'll recreate Kidman turning on Rey on SD next week? Or maybe it'll be used to make house shows seem more important like the IC title change.

bob_barron 0 Report post Posted August 17, 2003 No- they were just testing to see if the heel turn would work.
{''({o..o})''} 0 Report post Posted August 17, 2003 I got a refund from the target center show. I got the tickets for free anyway, so I got trashed at a hotel with my friends with the money instead.
Fökai 0 Report post Posted August 17, 2003 No- they were just testing to see if the heel turn would work. Exactly. They ran the same angle with RVD & Kane at the 01/02 house show in Hawaii. If it got a crappy reaction (like it did with RVD/Kane here) there's a good chance they'll keep the team together longer.
EdwardKnoxII 0 Report post Posted August 17, 2003 I hope they keep them together. I've always dugged the Kidman/Rey team since WCW.
Guest Chris2K Report post Posted August 17, 2003 The Kidman turn has been a certainty ever since his 'jealous expression' whilst he was sitting in the crowd during the Ultimo/Shannon match (Ultimo's debut). Kidman has talent (just), but he has less charisma than a Sega Saturn, and his personality is just pathetic, like the infamous quote: "I thought it was disrespectful. You don't see me F5ing people in my matches" - Kidman on Byte This regarding Brock's SSP at WMX9 He'd be fired if he wasn't married to the WWE's current favourite Diva (due to the fact she did Playboy and raked in hell loads of money for them). This heel turn is just a way to try and get him over. Again.
{''({o..o})''} 0 Report post Posted August 17, 2003 I talked to Curt Hennig before he passed away and I asked him about Brock's Shooting Star Press. He told me it is lockerroom law to avoid using the finisher of another guy in the same company. So quit complaining anout the F-5 quote because Brock was disrespectful in that regard. I know Kidman didn't invent the move, but it is his finisher in WWE.
Guest Chris2K Report post Posted August 17, 2003 What about Spanky doing the Sliced Bread #2 when Spike has the Acid Drop? I know they're slightly different, but to an average mark, they wouldn't tell the difference. And Crash did the exact same move as Spike's Acid Drop (Crash Landing) in early 2002. The Frog Splash? The Chokeslam? The Powerbomb? The Moonsault? The DDT? They're all used as finishers by more than one person in the WWE. So why should Kidman complain? And sorry to be slightly insensitive, but Hennig did actually die before Lesnar used the SSP in the WWE.....
Guest JMA Report post Posted August 17, 2003 I, for one, wish house shows had a bigger impact. Mentioning events from house shows on TV would be a good start. I miss the old days when house shows actually meant something.

{''({o..o})''} 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2003 I asked Hennig about the shooting star after seeing that clip from OVW. Brock and Hennig were pretty good friends before and after the flight from hell incident. In fact Hennig was one of the big reasons Brock went to WWe. Ok, I do need to clarify my previous quote. It is a respect matter to the veterens backstage. If someone wishes to use a move similar or even identical to an existing finisher, they must first ask the person who has claim to the move the longest. Moves like DDTs, moonsaults, and powerbombs, and chokeslams have been fairly freely used because their origins have been quite a bit in the past. About the Crash thing, I believe it was only a bulldog off the middle rope. The frog splash was different because Eddy , Van Dam, and D'lo had been doing it for many years. The Brock issue with the SSP was a relative newcomer taking a veterans sole claim to fame without getting permission or even asking.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2003 I was shocked Kidman didn't do his heel turn on this past SD after him and Rey lost the tag match. And fuck what Kidman says, if it wasn't for his SSP and him married to Torrie, he'd be a jobber for life.
JustJoe2k5 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2003 I can understand Billy Kidman being upset about Brock Lesnar using the Shooting Star Press. The fact that he missed it, the announcer's selling like he hit it, and Kurt Angle getting up before Brock Lesnar did hurt the credibility of the move a little. Remember in WCW, Billy Kidman was the same as he is now, but became the most over cruiserweight in the company in '98-'99, and WWE likes talking about their superior booking. And if Billy Kidman is only in WWE because of his finisher and wife, then the only reason Kurt Angle was ever in WWE is because he won the Olympics. No Olympic win, no Kurt Angle. Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2003 I'm just hate when wrestlers bitch about their trademark moves being used, you can only be so original before you run out of something new / extraordinary to use. Hell, I remember when the DDT was a devastating finisher that nobody would kick out of! Besides the SSP alone is impressive, but seeing a 275+ guy doing it successfully is even more impressive (see OVW video)!
Guest Chris2K Report post Posted August 18, 2003 ... then the only reason Kurt Angle was ever in WWE is because he won the Olympics. No Olympic win, no Kurt Angle. I think that probably is the case. If he'd been knocked out in the first round to some hairy Bulgarian in '96, would the WWE have heard about him? Would ANYONE have heard about him? It's doubtful. As for Kidman, I do see some of your points regarding the SSP. However, regarding my dislike of his personality, there was a rumour suggesting that he wanted in on the Mr. America festivities due to his background with Hogan in WCW. That just seemed a bit arrogant to me.
{''({o..o})''} 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2003 It's all good, it's just that this discussion happened on a lot of boards and Kidman got unfairly pointed out. BTW welcome to the board.
Downhome 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2003 Of course, had Rocky not been third generation, we might never had seen him. We could go on and on.
LivingLegendGaryColeman 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2003 Kidman was over in the WWE. When the Invasion started, the two most over people in the Alliance that the crowd would not boo were Rob Van Dam and Billy Kidman. Kidman was pretty over with the crowd. Partially due to feuding with X-Pac, but the crowd liked him genuinely too. Then he got injured around early August and was pretty much out for the rest of the Invasion if I remember correctly. WWE just didn't remember that and didn't adapt to pushing him correctly. The next time he showed up, he was jobbing.
Guest Chris2K Report post Posted August 18, 2003 Thanks frozenblockofpissreborn, and what a lovely name you have I don't think Kidman was really that over in the InVasion angle. As you say, his feud with X-Pac got him 'Anti-X-Pac Face Heat', but even Kevin Nash might get a pop if he faced Waltman. The thing is, he has a very basic moveset for a cruiserweight. All I can think of is 'Hurricanrana, Kid Krusher, SSP, and some other generic speed moves'. Hardly on a Rey Mysterio level....
Guest TonyJaymzV1 Report post Posted August 18, 2003 If they don't let Paul London do the SSP, then I'll be royally pissed. Kidman hasn't ever really been that good of a wrestler, decenet but unspectatcular. The SSP got him over, and all the other cruserweights made him look good. Oh and I sorta agree with Hennig about Finishers. A guy like Kidman has built up the SSP as his move that will finish anybody off, so when Brock Lesner tries it, fucks it up, and has ANgle get up and then job to an F5, makes Kidman's SSP look less spectacular.., even though his SSP is as bland as Kidman himself. How the hell did he get Torrie? Must have a big wang.
Paul Stanley 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2003 WWE can kiss my ass. They did advertise Dragon, Spanky, etc. for the show. I was hyped because i was going to see my former ROH favorite live, but no. They can't allow that. Dragon i've missed 6 TIMES due to either being pulled off the card or no showing. Anyways, the money will be used for Sat's POISON CONCERT. Yeah.
El Psycho Diablo 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2003 Kidman would have a right to bitch if he could actually..y'know..pull the move off decently. As it is, a guy like Lesnar is a threat because he actually gets height and range with the move..unlike Kidman, who does it from like three feet away. Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2003 Just a correction. Crash's "Crash Landing" was his variation of AJ Styles' Styles Clash. His tornado bulldog, to my knowledge, didn't have a specified name.
Fökai 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2003 Actually, Holly's variation of Styles Clash was called the "Crash Course". The bulldog WAS called the "Crash Landing".
Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2003 Actually, Holly's variation of Styles Clash was called the "Crash Course". The bulldog WAS called the "Crash Landing". I stand corrected, lol. Probably just a typical announcer miscue (this IS the Cat we were talking about), but I swore it was called as such in the Velocity results online too. Guest Coffey Report post Posted August 18, 2003 I'm still waiting for Kidman to turn heel on camera. I think he needs to turn heel. He is so bland & boring as a face. He lacks personality. He lacks charisma. He lacks emotion. As a heel, just cheating could get him at least a little bit in each of those categories...maybe.
Guest Chris2K Report post Posted August 18, 2003 Maybe Linda McMahon should do it as well.....
