Cheex Incarnate 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2003 I just picked up the bastard Tarantino movie, True Romance. I for one like the movie alot, but I feel it would have been worlds better with a nonlinear storyline, and tarantino's direction (i.e. his ending). Its definately not on par with Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, or Jackie Brown, but all in all i enjoy it to this day. Any thoughts? -Cheex

Guest Lethargic Report post Posted August 18, 2003 Shockingly, I disagree to a degree as in I DO like it as much as his other movies. And I think the script that he wrote with the non-linear storyline was nowhere near as good as the straight forward movie it became. I think non-linear would've done nothing for the movie. Only thing it would've possibly done is make it seem more "cool" cause it was "different". That kind of editing would've added nothing to the story. I think it works best the way it is now. I also like the ending it has now. Usually, I wanna see every character in a movie die. But I liked these characters and didn't want to see either one of them bite it. Nighthawk 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2003 Oddly enough, Lethargic said pretty much exactly what I was going to.
Guest Crucifixio Jones Report post Posted August 18, 2003 Yeah, the changes from screenplay to screen were for the best. Even without Tarantino at the helm, this turned out to be one pretty kickass flick. Sometimes, Quentin doesn't always need to direct everything he writes. He needs someone to filter the good and the bad for him.
Guest MissMattitude Report post Posted August 18, 2003 Ah, this is one of my favourite movies. The Walken/Hopper scene will go down as one of the best in cinematic history. It had a great ensemble of cast, including my favourite actor Christian Slater.
notJames 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2003 I read or heard somewhere that the Hopper/Walken exchange was almost entirely ad-libbed. Can anyone confirm? And yes, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie. Great ensemble cast, featuring one of the greatest supporting actors of all time, Michael Fuckin' Rappaport. BTW, the DVD commentary by Slater and Arquette is almost completely unlistenable. They must have been high when they recorded it; that, or they're just dumb as rocks.

I loved the bit where you had the gangsters looking for Clarence and they come across Floyd, Brad Pitt as Floyd is soooo funny.
NoCalMike 0 Report post Posted August 18, 2003 This is one of those movies that none of "the guys" back in highschool would watch simply because it was called, "true romance" I remember seeing this with my friend and trying to sell it to everyone and convince them to watch it and the typical response was, "umm, it's called true romance fag, why do i want to watch some stupid romantic movie" Very underrated film.
