Matt Young 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2003 Hey everyone. I would like to get a credit card, but I have no credit history and I was wondeirng if any of you knew of a card that I could get approved for under these circumstances. The only reason I even want one is so I can use it to purchase things online from sites such as Amazon and eBay. Any help would be appreciated.
Guest Eagan469 Report post Posted August 20, 2003 I'd suggest getting a debit card from your bank. You can use it as a credit card and it takes the money straight from your savings account. I use mine for anything with PayPal and eBay.
Guest The Old Me Report post Posted August 20, 2003 Try providian or something like that. As someone who works in the collections industry, there are PLENTY of companies that would LOVE to get you in over your head.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2003 DO NOT fuck with the credit cards. Do like Eagan says. Then you don't have to worry about A: Intrest Rates or B: Late fees and such.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2003 Those cards that accept anyone have astronomical intrest rates and fees...and you would only get like a 250 dollar limit. Its just not worth it.
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2003 I used to be that way Ripper for a long time. Now I have three -- all cash back. The only thing about debit cards is that if it gets stolen and somebody else uses it watch your bank account plunge. And I'm sure you can get a credit card somewhere in this wild and crazy world... Downhome 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2003 Stay away from credit cards unless you are proven to be able to both mannage your money, and that you have a good job. If you can not do that, then just get a debit card from your back so that money comes out of your account. After that, you can sign up for PayPal with your bank account, and get a PayPal Visa card which will take money right out of your PayPal account which will then act just like a credit card. sfaJack 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2003 If you live near a college, go hang out around campus and find one of the hundreds of booths offering credit cards to anyone that walks by. Most of them don't even care if you're a student or not; they just want your business.

Guest stardust Report post Posted August 21, 2003 credit card = devil I completely agree with this statement. Get a debit card from your bank. It's safer for you financially and won't get you in as much trouble as credit cards tend to do to people.

No, get small unsecured loans so I can sue your ass and place judgments on you and sell your personal belongings.
Guest stardust Report post Posted August 21, 2003 HAHA. Sorry, but the only loans I have and will be getting are student loans. It's gonna take me til I'm dead and my grandchildren are in their 30s to pay them off, so I really don't want or need anything else to pay off, y'know. kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2003 In the several years I've had credit cards, I only had to pay $1 or so worth of finance charges. You just have to be responsible -- you don't have a problem with that, do you?...
sfaJack 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2003 In the several years I've had credit cards, I only had to pay $1 or so worth of finance charges. You just have to be responsible -- you don't have a problem with that, do you?... Exactly. Just don't be a dumbass and you'll be ok. As mentioned, debit cards are WAY more dangerous than credit cards; if somebody steals your debit card, they can drain your bank account and you'll have just about zero chance of getting your money back. With credit cards, you'd only be liable for $50 max. Watch your spending and you'll be ok. I've paid exaclty $0.21 in finance charges in the 5 years I"ve had a card, and that was only because I stupidly wrote my check for $138.00, instead of $138.66, thus incurring a finance charge on the $0.66. Pretty idiotic thing to do.
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2003 Heck, if anything, if you have a cash back card you would get money back. Example: the last place I lived accepted credit cards -- In the year I used a cash-back card I got $84 back on paying rent alone...
Ced 0 Report post Posted August 23, 2003 Yes indeed. If you do use credit cards, use them with EXTREME caution. I had to use mine for some emergency repairs on my car. Now that I don't have a job at the moment, the only people that are smiling are the folks at Capital One as they watch my wallet bleed like a sieve.
