Guest Jay Z. Hollywood Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 As has been reported lately, Vince McMahon has soured a bit on the Ultimo Dragon, and hasn’t pushed him as was originally planned. Dragon speaks only broken English, and has a more business-like in-ring style (like those in Mexico and Japan) whereas McMahon generally prefers a more animated American style with more crowd interaction. McMahon was expecting another charismatic type like Rey Mysterio, and the Dragon is a different kind of wrestler. This threw McMahon for a loop, and he rethought his plans. credit: Pro Wrestling Torch Newsletter
The Ghost of bps21 Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 1. Why doesn't McMahon learn ANYTHING about the people he puts on payroll? Is it any wonder his writers can't write when he can't even be bothered to watch wrestlers wrestle? 2. For as much as McMahon likes wrestlers with "crowd reaction" there's only a handful that are any good at entertaining for the crowd at house shows. Most of them came from ECW too...where that was teh most important thing for them to do. Christian is really good at drawing out heat at house shows too...but most guys are just collecting their check. AT least that's how I've seen it. The best guys for house shows are the lower midcard guys.
Guest Dynamite Kido Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 So in other words....Vinnie Mac is a fucking idiot!!!!!
Youth N Asia Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 Does Vince even check guys out anyone or does he just follow "Hey Vince, this guy's good." We all could have told him Dragon's pretty much just wrestling.
AndrewTS Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 This is the 2nd reason we've heard--the other was that he wasn't a stiff-looking enough worker for him. Vince probably thought he was signing that Ricky Steamboat kid that he hears Flair mention a lot.
Youth N Asia Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 Seems like Vince does something dumb...we say we could have told you so...and then he does something else dumb
Guest The Grand Pubah of 1620 Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 Well it isn't the 90's anymore and Ultimo isn't the man he used to be. That could be one reason right there.
The Ghost of bps21 Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 Please. Vince wouldn't know a good wrestler from a bad one. Small. Foreign. Not WWE made. That's like...two more strikes than it takes.
AndrewTS Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 Well it isn't the 90's anymore and Ultimo isn't the man he used to be. That could be one reason right there. If that were the reason, it wouldn't be so bad. It isn't, though.
razazteca Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 Maybe WWE should of signed Dragon Kid instead. I bet some of his spots would of gotten the Rey Misterio pop that Vince wants. If all else fails let Teddy Long manage him.
jester Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 I can't remember who it was, but somebody on this board proposed that everything WWE does can be boiled down to "Vince is a moron." It even has a decent acronym. VIAM. Why add every McMahon to the main event? VIAM. Why sign Ultimo without having any clue as to the kind of wrestler he is? VIAM. Why make a deal with the World Wildlife Fund and then break it? VIAM. Makes sense.
AndrewTS Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 Jester: sounds like the acronym often used for bad movies--I.I.T.S. (it's in the script). And yup, indeed V.I.A.M. Why sign Nathan Jones and plan to give him a huge push? V.I.A.M. Why give Sean O'Haire a gimmick he can't pull off unless used in a slickly-produced video package? V.I.A.M. It's fun!
Guest webmasterofwrestlegame Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 To be fair, its not Vince's job to sign wrestlers - its JR's.
The Ghost of bps21 Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 I just think it's funny that Vince assumed a little foreign guy would be a Rey clone. It's also funny that he wants these little charasmatic guys for the cruiser division...and yet Kidman is always at the top of it. It'a a good thing VIAM, or guys who are that kind of pop the crowd dynamic like AJ Styles and Hail Sabin would be toiling on Velocity. Oh wait...he already got London and Spanky didn't he?
Damaramu Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 Spanky...*sniff*...he's one of my fav's and he gets to be intimidated by Vince on SD! after spilling syrup on him. Damn....
Youth N Asia Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 Spanky...*sniff*...he's one of my fav's and he gets to be intimidated by Vince on SD! after spilling syrup on him. Damn.... Least he's got a well paying job on tv. I like Spanky on Smackdown.
Guest El Satanico Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 Who told Vince Ultimo pops crowds like Rey? Vince needs to retire...now EDIT: The real reason behind this is that Vince is a racist and he looks for reasons to not push a minority. Rey is lucky he got over on his own.
Damaramu Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 Spanky...*sniff*...he's one of my fav's and he gets to be intimidated by Vince on SD! after spilling syrup on him. Damn.... Least he's got a well paying job on tv. I like Spanky on Smackdown. What does he do on SD!? Nothing. He's just there to be an extra or get beat up. I liked him much better in ROH. There I at least got to see him wrestle good matches.
Guest nikowwf Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 VIAM. The crowd WANTS to love Dragon. The garden crowd was into him, even though shannon moore totally suckified his debut. And if you don't think he's expressive enough - ASK HIM TO BE MORE EXPRESSIVE. Sigh...i think Vince hates asians - im surprised Gail Kim doesn't have the gimmick of being a fry cook or a porn star or something. niko
jester Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 Sigh...i think Vince hates asians - im surprised Gail Kim doesn't have the gimmick of being a fry cook or a porn star or something. niko Well, now that's she's sort of turned heel, maybe they'll have her lust for Vince like everyone else. Leading to that epic Gail Kim/Dawn Marie feud Vince thinks we'd eat up, because VIAM.
Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 Shooter Jay is late on the ball, this is like a week old. Either way, I'll say what I said before on this. WWE needs to do more work knowing who they are signing, or else they just end up losing money and wasting time.
cbacon Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 So where does Ultimo go from here? Dark matches and Velocity till his contract expires?
Guest Trivia247 Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 Its all Ultimo Dragon's Fault by springing on the Pooor Vince McMahon the Same wrestling style he's been doing all his career..... that really came out of left field da Bastage!

Eclipse Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 He needs to research the people he hires more. I loved Dragon in WCW. I bet that was the only thing Vinnie looked at. Hell, in WCW, imagine some hyped up wrestler making it big time there. Vinnie heard about that then, hires him to the WWE, and finds out the guy is a rapist or something....
Guest Kid Kablam Posted August 21, 2003 Report Posted August 21, 2003 Remember when the Mr America angle began and Steph said that she signed Mr. America before knowing what he even looked like? Remember when the whole internet went "What fucking business person would do that?" Well, here's our answer.

LoL Anyone else read the Raven shoot when he said he showed up backstage after being rehired and Vince said "who the Hell hired Raven?"

I mean, most of this stuff isn't new, and yet the man still has millions. Billions even. And yet, I have yet to see any razor sharp business instincts.
Jobber of the Week Posted August 22, 2003 Report Posted August 22, 2003 Too bad Vince doesn't own the WCW tapes or anything, he could have checked the guy out beforehand.
