HellSpawn Posted August 22, 2003 Report Posted August 22, 2003 I just recently got the HHH DVD with this match. I liked, is very good but I have some comments: Its really that GREAT? Maybe the years (1989 ----> 2003) affect my POV, I do believe is ***** or near ***** but... THE GREATEST NA MATCH EVER ? Really? Its not about table spots or blood or holy shit bumps. I can place that style on its own momment and time. For example, I have Bret - Owen from WM X in high level, maybe my favorite match. Im more related to old school than *my own * AAA-High Flyin-Bumpin-In-Every-Place Style. Maybe I need the whole backup, but again, if this is, and Im sorry for the pun, That Damn Good... dont (doesnt? sorry, I always been confused with do/does ) need extras to be GREAT. So... help me with that.
Guest Ray Posted August 22, 2003 Report Posted August 22, 2003 This is WrestleWar, yes? If so, that's the problem. Clash of the Champions VI is the better match. WrestleWar is good but generally overrated.
Guest Dmann2000 Posted August 22, 2003 Report Posted August 22, 2003 I concur with Ray, 4-5-89 is better.
EL DANDY~! Posted August 22, 2003 Report Posted August 22, 2003 It's the 2/3 falls match. I've said it before...while WrestleWar is flawless technically...it wasn't too much of a story. The 2/3 falls was one of those matches where EVERYTHING clicked...
Guest BAR Posted August 22, 2003 Report Posted August 22, 2003 I'd say the Clash VI match is the greatest NA match of all time. Wrestle War is in my top 10 though. Why is a Flair/Steamboat match on a HHH DVD?
Fökai Posted August 22, 2003 Report Posted August 22, 2003 Why is a Flair/Steamboat match on a HHH DVD? It was chosen by Hunter as his favorite match ever.
Betty Houle Posted August 22, 2003 Report Posted August 22, 2003 I'd say the Clash VI match is the greatest NA match of all time. Wrestle War is in my top 10 though. Why is a Flair/Steamboat match on a HHH DVD? Otherwise no one would have bought the thing.
IWD Posted August 22, 2003 Report Posted August 22, 2003 I agree that the 2/3 falls match from COTC VI was better. The match they had at Chi-Town Rumble 89 was really good too. OK.
Guest drdrainoscott Posted August 22, 2003 Report Posted August 22, 2003 In Wrestle War's defense, though, I've seen the match three times as of now. The first time I wasn't too impressed either. But for some reason, the next two times I watched the match, I was blown away by it. Maybe it just needs to be viewed a couple of times to see its splender.

True, like Citizen Kane you don't recognize it's greatness the first time around.
RavishingRickRudo Posted August 22, 2003 Report Posted August 22, 2003 Someone really needs to sell me on the 2/3 falls match, cause to me it seemed like they were doing the same moves over and over and over again.
TheOriginalOrangeGoblin Posted August 22, 2003 Report Posted August 22, 2003 Maybe it's me but I find the Wrestlewar match the WORST of their 3. 2/3 falls is the best. Chi-Town Rumble is second(ref bump aside) Wrestlewar 3rd.
CanadianChris Posted August 22, 2003 Report Posted August 22, 2003 The post-match angle after the WrestleWar match really delivers the coup de grace. The 2/3 falls match WAS the better match on its own, but seeing Funk piledrive Flair on the table after the WrestleWar match is permamently linked with the match for me...that's why I think it's the better match.

Guest Ray Posted August 23, 2003 Report Posted August 23, 2003 Has anyone seen the Flair/Steamboat match(es) from Japan in the early 80's? How do they compare with the 89 series?
Austin3164life Posted August 26, 2003 Report Posted August 26, 2003 I recently downloaded off of Kazaa an early encounter between Flair and Steamboat, and Flair was reigning NWA Champ. It was a great match with good psychology. Match ended when Flair reversed Steamboat's momentum (from a flying cross-body) and pinned him for the win.

FINALLY --- I have grown sick of the seeming never-ending statement that WrestleWar was the best of the series of their matches when, to me, Clash VI had workrate, psychology, and drama ALL OVER their rematch in Memphis. -=Mike
