bob_barron 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2003 So, how would Triple H be able to get in? He's not 35 yet, is he? Because I know he hasn't been in the business for 15 years yet. He's Angle's age. And look at the baseball HOF. It's littered with drunks and womanizers. Mickey Mantle drank himself to death. Should he have been barred from the Hall for his off field antics and ignore his actual career? The baseball and wrestling HOF are not the same thing. Even discounting faking an injury to get out of jobbing the world title- HBK had a few great matches and was a flat out bomb as champion. It's the Hall of Fame- not the Hall of Very Good
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2003 HHH probably got on the ballot due to his 2000/01 run which is one of the most overrated runs in history. I guess being carried by Austin, Foley, Rock, Benoit, Jericho and Angle is key to being a great wrestler. Yep, just like Benoit is the most overrated wrestler. Ever since he's been in the WWE, I've never heard of a good Benoit match that didn't involve, Jericho, Angle, HHH, or Austin. Not exactly slugs by any means there. Benoit has good matches with Albert and Rikishi. They aren't exactly workrate gods. Fact is Benoit is as good as everyone says he is. No matter how much people whine and cry "Everyone likes Benoit! WAAH! I'll hate him because everyone likes him! WAAH!" Bitch and moan all you want but Benoit IS THAT GOOD. If you've EVER watched him in ECW, WCW, Japan, and Mexico you know this. Hell if you paid attention while watching him on WWE TV you'd know this. Frankly people need to get over there insecurities about liking a wreslter that everyone else does. Ok fine if we're delusional fanboys then you're a bitter prick. Seriously just because a bunch of people like Benoit doesn't mean that you have to hate him out of spite. Because that's all I'm seeing here. You can't come up with a rational argument as to why Benoit sucks these days. Everyone tells you GOOD matches that he's had that are better than most WWE matches and all you can come up with is "Well..you're all fanboys up on Benoit's dick..." Yeah well if you're going to play that card then so am I. You're just a bitter little bastard that can't take the fact that other people like Benoit when he doesn't. bob_barron 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2003 I guess we'll agree to disagree- I enjoyed every encounter those two guys had when they faced off. Benoit also dragged a pretty good match out of Taker at Rebellion 2000.
Cherry Blossom Viscount 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2003 Benoit also has had good matches with both Hardy Boyz. And has been in three high end WWF/E MOTYC for three years in a row Once again, I do not agree. But, at the same time, the Hardy Boyz weren't BAD wrestlers. Jeff was above average and Matt is pretty good. People sing Benoit's praises as if he's carrying Nah like slugs to ***** matches nightly. And the Benoit matches that have gotten the most praise have consisted of Austin, HHH, Jericho, Angle, and Eddie; all people at one time or another that were considered great wrestlers. Damaramu 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2003 Listen it takes two to tango. There's not really a way to have ****+ matches with a complete slug. If you wanna have a ****+ match you gotta have another good wrestler. Hence the reason Benoit's best matches have been against other great wrestlers. That's why ANYBODY's great matches are against another GOOD wrestler. If someone does have a ****+ match with a total slug then it's an oddity and happens once in a blue moon. And at this time I can't think of any matches happening like that. Seriously do you think before you type?
El Psycho Diablo 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2003 Technically, wouldn't "Hall of Fame" entry rely on how well known someone is? In that case, Michaels has Benoit beat hands down. Besides, backstage behavior has never mattered in these type of things. Lots of so-called "great" sports personalities weren't saints.

godthedog 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2003 guys, if you're gonna start arguing about who carried who, it really helps to point out specific examples of your wrestler dictating the pace or calling the shots. saying shit like "wrestler x carried that match!" bob_barron 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2003 HHH v. Chris Benoit. Big “HHH” chant from the crowd. HHH goes for the knee quickly and pounds on it, bigtime. Vicious stuff. PSYCHOLOGY~!, gotta love it. He even pulls out a Muta bridging deathlock. They head out and Benoit introduces him to the stairs. Back in, for some CANADIAN VIOLENCE! Single-arm DDT hurts HHH’s shoulder, and Benoit goes to work. He pulls out a hammerlock backdrop suplex, which is pretty insane. Northern Lights suplex gets two. Back outside, Benoit hotshots him onto the table. Snap suplex gets two. He tries the cross-armbreaker for a bit, then hits another hammerlock suplex and drives the diving headbutt into HHH’s shoulder. HHH comes back with a small package and an inverted suplex (called properly by LAWLER of all people!) . Slugfest, and HHH’s neckbreaker gets two. HHH superplex, but Benoit comes back with the rolling germans and a pair of bad-looking dragon suplexes for two. Benoit hits the crossface, but HHH powers out. Benoit beats him like a dog and slaps it on again, and HHH powers out again…and turns it into a DVD! Whoa, nellie! Stephanie bounces out (Bras reek of heinosity!) and slaps Benoit, allowing HHH to try the Pedigree. Benoit powers out and goes to the crossface, but HHH powers out of that and goes to the Pedigree, but Benoit powers out of that and goes to the crossface, but HHH powers of THAT, hits a lowblow, and the Pedigree finishes at 18:55. A clean finish in a HHH match? Wow. ****1/4 for some AWESOME psychology and a hard-fought finish. Both guys’ hot streak continue. I dunno what they’re supposed to do with Benoit now, though

But when the match sucks, it's because (insert hated wrestler or hoss here) dragged the match down to their level.

bob_barron 0 Report post Posted August 24, 2003 "Benoit got a great match out of Austin " Austin's matches since coming back- NHB mess v. Rikishi Steel cage v. Rikishi 2-1 handicap v. Rikishi/Angle An 8-man tag A 3 minute squash v. Eddy A brawl with HHH. His match with Benoit was his first real match since coming back from a year long neck injury. None of his previous matches had been any good or were too short to mean anything which meant either a) Austin sucked b) They were trying to hide the fact. They put him against Benoit and WHAM! Austin has a great singles match where he looks like a million bucks. And I won't move on because it's BULLSHIT. Oh joy- We get to hear more of your DON'T SAY CARRY! DON'T SAY IT! "Angle" does not = carry. "Benoit" does not = carry. Since Angle and Benoit are their real names- You didn't have to put it in quotes. Since you hate the word carry will you accept the fact that some wrestlers work a lot harder to try and get something watchable out of a wrestler who has not been known to get watchable matches.
