kkktookmybabyaway Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 Good for Freddy/Jason. A 61% drop-off, but refusing to give up the top slot...
Guest Salacious Crumb Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 Well at least that horrible looking Marci X movie didn't break a million. And it looks like Jackie Chan's drawing power is on the downside.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 Well at least that horrible looking Marci X movie didn't break a million. http://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekend/chart/ Marci X $865,000 (1,200 screens) (Charlie's Angels did better...)
the pinjockey Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 So can we officially declare the Ashton Kutcher fad over?
Guest Dave O'Neill, Journalist Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 Thank Christ No Batman for you
razazteca Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 The Jackie Chan movie is a B+ Golden Child movie at best.
Downhome Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 I knew My Boss's Daughter would be a failure the moment I heard that they never allowed screenings to take place for critics. Freddy vs. Jason is a huge success, I'm proud of that one for doing so well. Thus begins the NEXT era of slashers, lol.
Guest Retro Rob Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 Pretty disappointing weekend overall. Then again, we all figured as much.
the pinjockey Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 I am intrigued by the fact it looks like two horror movies battling for the no. 1 spot next week. How long has it been since that has happened?
Guest The Winter Of My Discontent Posted August 24, 2003 Report Posted August 24, 2003 So can we officially declare the Ashton Kutcher fad over? But he's so dreamy......
Mole Posted August 24, 2003 Author Report Posted August 24, 2003 Pretty disappointing weekend overall. Then again, we all figured as much. It is almost September, this is when the box office numbers go down big time.
El Psycho Diablo Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 Please, let FvJ die already. Ugh. Though, when the next one rolls around, the people who are fans of it, and hate so-called "overhyped blockbusters" are going have one hell of a problem.
Guest El Satanico Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 Pretty disappointing weekend overall. Then again, we all figured as much. The overall box office is up compared to last year at this time, so it wasn't that bad of a week.
Vyce Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 Meanwhile, "Pirates" is quietly making its way to the $300 million mark. And Jackie needs to pick better scripts. He should realize that from here on out, he should only make films where he's paired with a wise-cracking black guy or a culture-shocked white dude.
razazteca Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 Lee Evens was ok as Jackie's partner but what hurt the movie the most is the fight scenes Spoiler (Highlight to Read): too much of the speed up the film crap
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 How did The Battle Of Shaker Heights do ?
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 Not bad. I hope to catch it this week.
Guest Mindless_Aggression Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 How did the Ashton Kutcher fad even begin? He was never in a succesful film, and in fact everything he touched seemingly bombed outside of Punk'd. Is it just because he's fucking Demi Moore?
NYU Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 The commercials for the Kutcher movie are pathetically awful. Guy - This is my owl, OJ. Asston Kutcher: OJ, the killer ? Guy - No. OJ, the football player. And later..... Asston: OJ's loose ! Everybody: AHHHHHHH!! OH ! !! An OJ joke !! Now that's recent !! What's next ? A joke about Peewee Herman?
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 How did the Ashton Kutcher fad even begin? He was never in a succesful film, and in fact everything he touched seemingly bombed outside of Punk'd. Is it just because he's fucking Demi Moore? Somehow, Dude Where's My Car and Just Married were successful. EDIT: Don't forget That 70's Show.
cabbageboy Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 Yeah but Dude Where's My Car and Just Married were minor hits at best, and both savaged by critics. Ashton is basically a faux celebrity who is getting a ton of press based on who he is fucking rather than any talent he has. Glad to see Pirates still doing well, it'll run past the Matrix Reloaded fairly soon. Good, it was a better movie anyway. At least I thought so. Jeepers Creepers 2 is coming out next week right? It'll do ok, but how wild would it be for F vs. J to be #1 for 3 weeks?
Guest NaturalBornThriller4:20 Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 Minor hits and made back it's budgets. I liked both Dude, Where's My Car & Just Married, but who am I... Who the hell listens to Critics ? Jeepers "Did they really have to make another one" Creepers 2 will probably open up at #1 but to low numbers and will probably and hopefully fade off fast.
Guest Choken One Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 don't forget DUDE has become another one of those hit "cult" classics because it sucks so bad..
Guest Retro Rob Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 How did the Ashton Kutcher fad even begin? He was never in a succesful film, and in fact everything he touched seemingly bombed outside of Punk'd. Is it just because he's fucking Demi Moore? What about that TV show that has been on for quite a while now where he plays one of the main characters? What's it called again? /sarcasm
Guest Crucifixio Jones Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 The jokes in Bosses' Daughter are dated because the movie itself is also old. It was only released to capitalize on Ashton's newfound "celebrity" much like the shelved projects of Vin Deisel (A Man Apart, Knockaround Guys) after XXX did well. The thing is, even if the movie had come out when it was completed the OJ joke would've still be dated as hell.
The Ghost of bps21 Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 Open Range didn't have a huge drop off...which is nice.
Ripper Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 Hell yeah!! *roots for Open Range* And I still wonder how people want to disregard Ashtons work on "That 70's Show" the show is successful, he does a great job on it...that's where his popularity came from.
Guest Crucifixio Jones Posted August 25, 2003 Report Posted August 25, 2003 Really? Funny how that show and Dude, Where's My Car? had been out FOREVER and no one cared who he was, they only knew OF him. But the minute he started dating Demi and clubbing with Diddy, he's an A-list celeb? Yeah, his popularity came from that 70's show alright. Don't lie to yourself. Even PUNK'D isn't that great...not great enough to have the entire world talking about you. He's so on his high horse now he's refused to do a "Dude, Where's My Car?" sequel. He better get paid while he can. My clock says 13 minutes and counting.
