MrRant Posted August 26, 2003 Report Posted August 26, 2003 ALAMEDA, Calif. - Oakland Raiders (news) linebacker Bill Romanowski (news) was suspended from Monday's practice and fined an undisclosed amount after breaking teammate Marcus Williams' nose during a fight in practice a day earlier. Raiders coach Bill Callahan said no criminal charges will be pursued over the scuffle, which occurred during a pratice drill — though Williams reportedly called Alameda police after the incident. Williams was treated at a local hospital and released Sunday night. Romanowski is entering his 16th NFL season and second with the Raiders, who signed him as a free agent before their run to the AFC championship last fall. He has appeared in five Super Bowls and played in 240 consecutive regular-season games. Williams is in his second season as a backup tight end for the Raiders. He played mostly on special teams last season.
Mik Posted August 26, 2003 Report Posted August 26, 2003 And Romanoski proves that he is still one of sports biggest scumbags. Didn't he spit in another players face? And wasn't race a factor? Asshole.
kkktookmybabyaway Posted August 26, 2003 Report Posted August 26, 2003 If it was, then I have two words for ya. Hate Crime. Nice to see old Bill is mellowing out during his golden years...
Youth N Asia Posted August 26, 2003 Report Posted August 26, 2003 Hate Crime. Overused term...although he's a proven dumbass.
Agent_Bond34 Posted August 26, 2003 Report Posted August 26, 2003 Didn't he spit in another players face? IIRC, he spit on JJ Stokes. (This was obviously when Stokes was in San Francisco) Although, I might be wrong about this.
Vern Gagne Posted August 26, 2003 Report Posted August 26, 2003 One of my favorite parts of the Super Bowl was watching the washed up a-hole Romanoski get knocked around by the Buccs offense.

And Romo was a former 49er, although I don't think Stokes was there yet when they played each other. As a Raider fan, he was probably our most hated opponent when he played for the Broncos.
sfaJack Posted August 26, 2003 Report Posted August 26, 2003 Another case of roid rage? Romanowski and Scott Steiner should form a 12-step group to cure their problems.
Gert T Posted August 26, 2003 Report Posted August 26, 2003 After reading the David Boston article in the ESPN magazine, it is amazing Romo has made it in the league this long. Lay off the horse tranquilizers Bill.
Guest BobbyWhioux Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 Romanowski spit on Stokes in 97 (Stokes joined the NFL and the 49ers in 95, Romo's last year in S.F. was 93). If I recall correctly, it was an attempt to bait Stokes into taking a dumb penalty. And a racial undertone MAY have been involved, but I don't think so (that might be another incident). Given the rest of Bill's rap sheet, it's a rather minor incident. After all, most 49er fans were figuratively doing what Romo literally did to JJ at that point, and really stepped it up in the following years. Stokes never quite panned out. There were flashes of the talent that they had in mind when they made the move to draft him, but they were infrequent. I hope he gets the ball more in Jacksonville, cuz for some weird ass reason I'm still not ready to give up on the guy and write him off as a full bust.
Guest Just Looking Posted August 27, 2003 Report Posted August 27, 2003 There was also a report a few years back claiming that while in Denver, Romo tried to encourage white teammates to use steroids or other supplements because they needed the edge over the black players that were, in his opinion, taking over the league. Whether or not this is true, the fact remains that Romo is an unmitigated asshole.
Vern Gagne Posted August 28, 2003 Report Posted August 28, 2003 Romanowski was fined and suspended for 1 practice. Know to me that isn't harsh enough. He should be suspended at least 1 regular season game.

You know the team, while pissed at him, is more worried about winning games and sitting him for a game won't help that.

(Oh, by the way, Romo won't be going to any supper parties of mine in the near future...)
