Two Towers DVD

Recommended Posts

For every great 3 hour movie there is a crappy three hour movie. length alone does not make a picture good. To prove that, I give you "Gods and Generals".

I will wait for the Spec. Ed., rent the current release for now. kkktook..., you know the deal, women rule, baby. Good job, you have a healthy relationship.

BTW, I love these critics and others who are 'wondering if ROTK will live up to the first 2 movies'. Oh brother, come on.

Here's something that I posted at SNKT, but CJ never responded to.

I can't.  Why even fool around with the theatrical "cut" if you're a die-hard fan?  In my estimation one should just go the full monty and buy the extended version aka the way Peter Jackson intended it.  Seems a very simple choice to make from where I sit. //JR

Here's my take on it. I own the 4-Disc Fellowship of the Ring and I had never seen the original cut of the film prior to seeing the extended version.

CJ, we've discussed this before...I HATE double dipping for anything, which is why I haven't bought any of the Star Wars films, knowing there will be a box set in a few years.

However, while I was at The Wiz a few months back during their going out of business sale, they were playing the theatrical version (2-Disc) of Fellowship of the Ring and I began watching bits and pieces of it. I had been under the impression the entire time that the 4-Disc set only added to scenes, not changed elements and scenes around. There were certain scenes that I saw were completely modified and not on the 4-Disc version at all...and being the completist that I am, I wanted to purchase the 2-Disc version as well. However, I never got around to it, but I am open to the idea.

Also, just to clarify something, I listened to Peter Jackson's commentary on the Extended Version and he made it very clear that the "Extended" cut is NOT the same thing as the Director's Cut. He stated that the "Director's Cut" of the film is the shorter, theatrical release and the "Extended" footage is footage that was purposely shot for the DVD release. I doubt that means much to any of you, though.

I luckilly got it the Thursday before it came out. I love the fact that I work at Game Crazy/Hollywood Video. That is one awesome benefit. My buddies would call and say, "Whatcha doin?" I was like, "Watching LOTR: Two Towers." They wigged out and wanted to come watch it. Twas awesome. Can't wait till the week before Sep 26th for Daddy Day Care.

Certainly. In that case it only makes a bad movie worse.

On the flip side, can you imagine a two hour Lawrence of Arabia?
