Guest TheArchiteck Report post Posted October 12, 2003 Sounds like a lot of effort. I still don't get how the first player doesnt get first grabs at the best players. Ok. It wasn't mentioned here, but Adam commented on that. He basically explained that in TEW, the wrestlers would weigh out the options and get back to you in a day if he joins you or not. Hence, it's a level playing field as you need to cater to what is logical to the wrestler and not just be the first one to get the deal. Ooooooh alright. That makes sense and adds a kind of realistic flair to it.

I would like to play multiplayer sometime, but honestly I find it hard to come up with much good content when set on a deadline. Word around the Total Sports (or whatever the actual site is called) is that Adam has the engine and everything in place. All he has to do is fill it out. So basically he's got most of it done, it's the fine tuning and stuff that needs to be worked out. We might (and I stress might) even see this out a day or so early. Don't tell Choko I said that though. Anyways, release is in First Quarter 2003, mostly likely a February/March release from the looks of things. I'm betting on a release in March to coincide with Wrestlemania XX.

Brush with Greatness 0 Report post Posted October 13, 2003 The problem with multiplayer would seemingly be that you could only play one day at a time per turn. So that means even if you're not doing anything that day all you do is unzip the file, load everything up, click next day, save the file, zip it up, email it. All for doing nothing on that day. And the 3 other players need to wait for you to do that before they can have their turns.

It's true you're essentially only getting to play one day by yourself but you're doing that if you have a show. It'll be like it's my turn to do a show. I do it. Then I'll zip it up and send to the next person who will already be ready to do their next show. I also need to work out some things in that to make it flow better and I think you helped me figure one out.
Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2003 You bastards better appreciate me: Hi, There has been a lot of confusion and mis-quoting going on about what is in TEW, and what's not. Therefore, this is the remedy for that - the Ultimate TEW Confirmation List. Everything that has officially been confirmed will be in this list. If it's not here, then it hasn't been confirmed yet. NOTE: This is not a full feature list yet, it's just what's been confirmed at this stage. Just because something isn't here yet doesn't mean it won't appear at a later date. I'll do my best to keep it up to date! PM me if you think i've missed something. ------------------------------------------------------- FEATURES Geography: The game is split across USA, Canada, Mexico, UK, Japan, and Australia. Each of those places is split into smaller areas (usually cities, over 100 in total). Each area has it's own distinct personality, so Mexico City may be big on high flying action and respond well to Lucha-based shows, while Philadelphia may prefer hardcore brawling. Workers and promotions have different overness levels in each city, meaning that geography is a major part of the game. Worker In-Ring Statistics: See Here Player as worker: Players add themselves to the database in the same way as you would a normal worker, giving themselves statistics. During the game, the player can then use himself\herself as a playable character, putting themselves in angles and matches. If you do not want to do this, you are under no obligation to do so, and can simply not use your character. Owners \ Head Bookers: The player automatically is the Head Booker of the promotion they work for. However, they can also be the Owner. The difference is that if you are owner, you have complete control of the company, but you can only own one promotion per game - so if you go out of business, you can only play as head booker from then on. If you are not the owner, then you have the drawback of having to put up with the owner's choices - for example, he could block you from signing someone he hates. More Detailed Gimmicks \ Gimmick Editor: See Here Multiplayer: For 1 to 4 players. It is designed to be played "hot seat" style (i.e. all on the same computer), but there are ways to do it over the Net (by zipping and sending files) if you want. See Here. Time-Delayed Decisions: Decisions no longer happen instantly. So, for example, if you offer a worker a contract to work for you, he may take a few days to see what other offers come in. This means that there is no advantage in multiplayer as to what order the players are in. Match Editor Pictures: Worker, staff, and federation pictures \ logos will be supported. They will be the same sizes as used in Extreme Warfare Revenge 4.0. Brand Splits: WWE-style brand splits are fully supported. Oh and everything in this thread is currently correct. I haven't mistakenly posted something wrong.
Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted October 22, 2003 OH WHO DO YOU CALL WHEN YOU NEED NEW TEW INFO? ...who else? *sigh* Onto Countdown #4~! Alright. I know Adam Ryland wasn't exactly the best at doing *MY* countdown ( ) but he got the point across. Hopefully, you won't have to be subjected to something like that anymore. LOL. Just kidding Adam! Sooo, anyway, ONTO THE COUNTDOWN~! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Out Of Ring Stats Morality - 0 to 100% Stat - The Morality stat will effect who they'll sign with (if their risk is too high), and what matches they'll do. Booking Talent - 0 to 100% Stat - The Booking Talent stat will be used to decide who gets hired to the head booker / booking team, and will help decide CPU card quality. Announcing - 0 to 100% Stat - The Announcing stat determines how well a worker can be at Announcing should you decide to make that worker an announcer for one of your shows. Play By Play - 0 to 100% Stat - The Play By Play stat determines how well a worker can be at being a Play By Play announcer should you decide to make that worker an announcer for one of your shows. Business Sense - 0 to 100% Stat - The Business Sense stat is used to decide who will become owners, and at what level. It may also affect contract negotiation - someone with good sense will hold out for more. Temperament - 0 to 100% Stat - The Temperament stat is used to decide how likely they are to throw a tantrum and walk out if you do something they don't like. Attitude - 0 to 100% Stat - The Attitude stat is used to determine how likely a worker is to do jobs, put over youngsters, be OK with being demoted, etc. Behaviour - 0 to 100% Stat - The Behaviour stat is very similar to Temperament, but not so violent. So someone could be quite placid temperament wise, but still do a lot of drugs. Respect - 0 to 100% Stat - The Respect stat shows how much a respect a worker has for the wrestling business. It also seperates the legends from the never-was's (if that's even a word!) Refereeing - 0 to 100% Stat - The Refereeing stat determines how well a worker can be at being a Referee should you decide to make that worker a referee for one of your shows. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There are also Booking Styles in the game. There are several types of Booking Styles, but i'm only going to give you two this week . The Booking Style will determine how a worker books matches and will probably affect how your booking staff give you feedback in meetings. Talent First - Obviously, this means that this person will book matches based on Talent First. Hah, get it? Star Power - This person will book matches based on.. you guessed it.. Star Power~! That almost sounds like some cheesy anime cartoon quote. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Along with Booking Styles for a worker, theres also Business Preference for workers as well. This will determine which type of wrestling promotion a worker is likely to sign with. Once again, i'll only tease you with TWO. Hybrid - A worker with this choice is more likely to choose a promotion who is Portrayed as a Hybrid Promotion (example - MLW). Pure - A worker with this choice is more likely to choose a promotion who is Portrayed as a Pure Wrestling Promotion (example - Ring Of Honor). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ And.. FINALLY. There are Business Styles in the game as well. This determines how a worker does business. Like everything else, i'm only including TWO. Cheap - A worker with this choice, as owner, will be cheap. So someone who is cheap will keep a small roster and not sign any massive contracts Aggressive - An Aggressive owner will go ahead and steal other people workers just to piss off the other promotions, and will aggressively expand into other territories. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ And that's.. the end of this week's TEW Countdown! ToRRi What I mostly find interesting are the last bits. Personally, I'll probably be "Talent" first and thusly be fucked out of any seriously good jobs in the States. Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2003 Taken from .400 Software Studios Boards OK, this actually has nothing to do with Halloween at all, i just had some spare time on my hands. A new feature that will be in TEW is something that people have been asking for for quite a while - the ability to view what the computer-controlled promotions are booking. I've just finished the initial draft of this feature, and it's working pretty well already, this is definitely something i think is going to be a popular new part of the game. It's also a pretty detailed section, so i thought i'd give some background on what happens. The first thing that you'll notice is that the booking reflects the promotion in question. If it is a Sports Entertainment promotion, then you can expect it to feature lots of interview spots, and have plenty of short matches. A Lucha promotion though would have lots more six man matches, and less interviews. And so forth. The second thing is that the Head Booker's preferences come into play. If he is someone who is a "Youth Energy" type of booker, then you can expect the young up-and-comers to not only be given matches, but to score more wins over the veterans. On the other hand, a "Hoss Booker" would be more inclined to push the 320lb \ 6'6 monsters of the roster, giving them title shots, more matches, and wins over the smaller wrestlers. The final major point is that the booker (and owner of the promotion) will play political games, and it will have major effects on the show. Is the owner's son in a match against someone far more talented and over? Well, chances are, the owner's son will be getting the win anyway. Does the booker have an ongoing rivalry with the current world champion? Whoops, looks like he'll be dropping that title pretty soon then... The results aren't just "for show" either, they actually have the same effect that human-booking does. Just as if you leave one of your midcarders off all the show for 6 months he'll become angry and want to leave, the same rules apply to the computer promotions. On top of that, things like title results aren't just ignored. If a worker becomes a 12-time world champion after 10 years with a computer fed, and then you hire him - those 12 world title wins will be saved in his profile. Anyway, this has been something people have wanted for a long time now, so i thought i'd make the official announcement now that i have it coded and confirmed. Happy Halloween! Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted November 16, 2003 Taken from .400 Software Studios Boards Two weeks ago, everybody witnessed a tragedy. Adam Ryland, the creator of Total Extreme Warfare completely pulled a Triple H, and attempted to steal my heat by posting a countdown of his own! Needless to say, Adam Ryland fears Torri. LMAO. Just kidding.. Anyway, onto the countdown! Merchandising Now, I know what you're thinking. You're thinking that the merchandising feature is nothing more than a simple 0 - 100 stat you can set. WRONG. Much like everything else, Adam Ryland has improved the Merchandising option dramaticallly. What I'm about to say now has nothing to do with the actual Merchandise screen of the game, however it does play into the Merchandise. When signing a wrestler to contract, you will see a little option called "Merchandise %" and then you can set that value from 0 - 100%. What that feature means, is when signing a wrestler, whatever percentage you set it to for that wrestler, that's how much money out of his/her merchandise sales that he/she gets. So, for instance, if you sign Ric Flair to a contract and set his merchandise percentage to 50% and you make $100,000 off of his merchandise alone, you'd only get $50,000 of that added to your account. Get it? Got it? Good. Now, onto the actual merchandise screen.. When you reach the merchandise screen, you'll see a list of all of the wrestlers signed to any type of contract in your promotion. For each of those wrestlers, there'll be information regarding merchandise. They are: Current Push: This is the current push a worker is at. (Main Eventer, Upper Midcarder, Midcarder, Lower Midcarder, Opener, Jobber etc) Contract: This shows whether your wrestler is on written or open contract and for how much. Contracted Merchandise: This shows how much, if any, percentage of money this worker receieves from his/her merchandise sales. Previous Merchandise Sales: You'll be able to view how much merchandise this worker sold from up to two months ago. Monthly Merchandise Level: This section allows you to edit how much money you want to invest or produce (not sure which) in a particular workers merchandise. There seems to be an unlimited amount of money you can choose (obviously it can't be any higher than your current bank account) Also, a workers stats will likely play a role in merchandise sales. I can't tell you which stats will affect the sales, simply because I don't know. But stats and other aspects of a worker and the game will affect how much merchandise is sold. House Shows, TV Shows, and Pay Per View shows will also reflect merchandise sales. So, if you're in North Carolina, most likely Ric Flair's merchandise will be selling like crazy. And finally, while you're at the screen, if you're too lazy to set merchandise values for each wrestler, you can set how much money you want to spend on merchandise for a worker based on their current card position (Main Eventer, Upper Midcarder etc..) So if you have 10 Main Eventers, all you have to do is select "Main Eventer" and then enter the amount of money, and voila - every main eventers on your roster has that set amount. And that my friends, will do it for this countdown! I'll be back on the 28th of November with another TEW Countdown! Torri ~~~~~~~~~~~ P.S. Adam, if there's any incorrect information in this post, let me know.
Lightning Flik 0 Report post Posted November 28, 2003 I don't have a clue as to why I bother doing this, but hey! Maybe some people care! Or maybe not. Another update for you people on TEW. Taken from .400 Software Studios Boards Hi, As it's the 27th today, Torri is Thanksgiving. I, on the other hand, will be Informationgiving, as i'm doing this fortnight's Countdown. This time, i'm going to talk about the Game World. In TEW, it is made up of 6 Areas - USA, Canada, Japan, Australasia, Mexico and the UK. Each of those Areas is subdivided into Regions, and those Regions are broken down into Cities. Overall, the TEW world has 108 of these Cities. Every promotion and worker in the game has a seperate overness value for each City in the game. For example, this means that, as in reality, someone can be quite over on the East Coast while still virtually unknown on the West Coast. Using the editor, the player is able to define how each City is made up, using the following statistics: Population, Affluence, Casual Fans, Hardcore Fans, Pure Fans, Womens Wrestling Fans, Old School Fans, and Languages. Population - Is a measure of how many wrestling fans are in this city. Affluence - Is how rich the city is. The peopel of a rich city (like Connecticut) will be more likely to buy merchandise and pay for higher priced tickets, while people of a poor city will be unable to afford many luxuries. Casual Fans - This is a percentage of the Population stat. Casual fans are those who like wrestling, but do not necessarily follow storylines, and probably could only name the top guys in the industry. They tend to be more attracted to the Sports Entertainment type promotions, as those are the feds offering the product that requires the least knowledge. Fluctuations in industry and economy effect this group of fans far more than any other. "Other" Fans - This is made up of the other groups (Old School, Pure, Hardcore, Womens, MMA). They are all percentages of the "non-casual" fans. So, if a city had a population of 100,000, and 75% were Casual fans, that would mean that there are 25,000 (25% of 100,000) "non-casual" fans. These are the ones who follow the industry fanatically, and are very loyal. So, for example, Philadelphia is well known for having a lot of Hardcore fans. These fans generally aren't affected by changes in economy or the industry, they'll still go and see an event even when the industry is at its lowest point. Languages - This allows you to set what languages are spoken in the City. If you have a worker who can only speak English try and cut an interview in a place that can only speak Japanese, obviously you're going to have problems. How does this effect the game? Well, it directly effects where a promotion can run effective shows. If you have a city that is made up entirely of Pure fans, and a Sports Entertainment promotion runs a show there, it'll bomb, as nobody will want to watch. It also dictates which promotions will do in what conditions. In a massive slump of the wrestling industry, just as in real life, the Sports Entertainment promotions that rely heavily on casual fans, will experience big drops in ratings and interest. Meanwhile, promotions who have a more "hardcore" base of fans probably won't notice the slump too much, as the fans will keep coming anyway. A real life example of this would be the mid-1990s, when WWF and WCW (who both rely on large casual audiences) were in the toilet, while ECW, fuelled by a small but loyal band of hardcore fans, were able to rise at a rapid rate. It also effects the TV ratings possible. Each network has a definable coverage, where you can select what Areas\Regions\Cities it is shown in. If you define every city in the UK to like nothing but Women's wrestling, and then give a Lucha promotion a TV show on a network that is shown only in the UK, then the ratings are going to be tiny. It also has an impact on attendance levels, buy-rates, etc. If you decide to make all 16 Japanese cities each have only 1,000 people in them, then obviously no matter how good a show a Japanese federation puts on, it's never going to draw more than 16,000 people to the event. Each city also keeps a record of how long it has been since each promotion visited it. So if you run a US promotion and never visit Detroit, eventually you're going to start to lose popularity there. Overall, the locations offer far more scope for strategy, as not only do you have to keep your existing fan bases happy, but also learn how to "break into" new markets, hire workers who can help you do that, and avoid cities that could hurt you. For those of you who are thinking that this is a lot of information BTW, the game comes with a "map" feature, where you can get the information broken down by Area, Region, or City, which helps you plan out where you want to go next.
