Hawk's Interview on the WWE and other things

Recommended Posts

Guest Trivia247

Date: August 31, 2003

Hosts: Chris Chisum & Tim Stein

The Voice of Wrestling had another strong show this past Sunday with guest Hawk from the Legion of Doom and The Road Warriors. You can visit www.voiceofwrestling.com to listen to the streaming audio of this latest show, plus you can visit our archives to hear past interviews with some of the greats including Rob Van Dam, Chris Jericho, Mean Gene Okerlund, Sid Vicious, Road Dogg, D’Lo Brown, A.J. Styles, and many more! The Voice of Wrestling is live every Sunday night at 8:00 Eastern with a chat room for listeners to submit questions for the guests of the show.

Road Warrior Hawk

- Chris said that Voice of Wrestling had Animal on a while back, and now they have the other half of the Legion of Doom, followed by the question of who the better half was. Hawk replied by saying together, they make one super whole. He quickly told everyone not to take that the wrong way.

- When they had their match with RVD and Kane, he felt they had the deck stacked against them with Bischoff announcing them before their match and only given three minutes instead of the original seven that was planned. “What’s there to do in three minutes”? It turned out to be a squash job and Hawk thought it sucked. He hated it.

- On the WWE website, a poll was taken to see who fans thought was the best tag team ever and Hawk informed the hosts that The Road Warriors were winning the race in that, plus in the WWE magazine, an article on dream matches placed The Dudley’s facing Hawk and Animal. Hawk thinks they need to quit using them in that way and start putting them on the tube the right way.

- After their match on Raw, Hawk said they weren’t told anything. He said one writer came up to him afterward and he was a former soap opera writer. He said that he had never seen the Road Warriors before and praised them for how well they could get the crowd involved. “It’s a different situation up there (in WWE), and if it works out, it works”.

- Hawk discussed the book, “Oh What a Rush” that they have coming out and said that they aren’t going to put anyone down for cheap. However, it will be a “tell-all” book and Hawk will reveal some very personal and funny stories including dancing on top of bars and some other past experiences he got into. This book is going to be a perfect testimony of his life.

- On the topic of how Hawk and Animal can definitely help ratings, Hawk discusses that when they went down to TNA, they did a run-down, and then were announced for the next week’s show. The next week, the ratings were up 22% and they were never called back again. Hawk feels like that is Jeff Jarrett just wanting to be the “Hulk Hogan” of his little territory.

- As far as it being some sort of personal vendetta against The Road Warriors, Hawk realizes that he and Vince never really got along back then, but he says he’s matured a lot since then. Hawk says that he was very opinionated when he was with the WWE and he would always say what everyone else wanted to say, but was too afraid to. For this reason, they had kind of a rocky relationship.

- Hawk said Roddy Piper was basically talking the truth during the HBO special and he doesn’t feel it was right that he got released because of what he said. Hawk has never denied using steroids, although he doesn’t use them now and says he doesn’t need to, but he can look at someone and tell if they’re on. He suggests that Vince himself is obviously using steroids, but Mr. McMahon isn’t to blame for wrestler’s using.

- Quickly, the hosts and Hawk joked about his 3-day stunt with Missy Hyatt. Hawk said they dated for three days and he had her bags packed on the second day!

They were fucked that night. I think they should get another shot with some more build up and time to work a good match.

Plus I stand by my opinion that if you watch the tape of the RW's match against Kane/RVD you'll see it was obviously RVD's fault the DDD was blown. He ducked way too early.

the WWE need to sign new up and coming teams like AMW and Triple X not frigging LOD

I agree with this statement, however Christopher Daniels is already in his thirties...so I wouldn't say he is "new."

I also agree that the Doomday Device wasn't blown because of the Road Warriors. I actually thought that it looked fine. Hawk jumped for the clothesline and RVD ducked. Hawk was already in the air, so he already commited to the move regardless of when RVD ducked.

I didn't even realize that the move was blown.

That's what I thought too...however when I logged onto TSM after the match, I saw everyone and their mother making fun of LoD for botching their own finish.

"He said one writer came up to him afterward and he was a former soap opera writer."

If a fucking former writer for Passions is writing for WWE, you know the company's down the toilet.

Actually, if you watched the match again, you would see that RVD hardly even ducked. He just dipped his head because Hawk (I think) jumped to high. It wasn't botched or anything though.

World Wrestling Entertainment is said to have little to no interest in James Storm and Chris Harris, America's Most Wanted. Despite Charlie Hass and Shelton Benjamin's rapid evolution into one of the best technical teams in years, a large portion of American wrestling fans consider Storm and Harris to be the best tag team in the country. According to the Pro-Wrestling Torch Newsletter, WWE officials are said to be relatively unimpressed with James Storm and consider Chris Harris to still be too vanilla at this point.

Now don't think I don't like TGTTE but if AMW is vanilla so is TGTTE. Consider that I think I've heard AMW talk on the mic more than TGTTE, this shows you where the WWE priorities really lay.....if it's true.

I'm just astonished that you can metion "work a good match" when talking about the Road Warriors. Sheesh, and people say that Steiner vs HHH was boring...

when I saw it, it looked like that Hawk was way off not too high but completely missed it from the side.. RVD ducked afterwards to cover up basically they had to use the camera side angle for the replay.

Are you fucking serious?

This is the LEGION OF DOOM we're talking about. They had trouble putting on a decent match in their prime, yet alone when they're over 40 and broken down to all shit.

Seriously, sometimes I think some Smarks WANT to be tortured just so they have something to bitch about.
