I justed to know what you all thought of the movie ( for those who've seen it) . I personally thought it was pretty good , giving it a 8.5 of 10.Depp was pretty cool in the movie, but I think they were trying to focus on too many other factors.

Being they stressed the whole Depp being blind and still capable with that little mexican boy, I smell a spin off. You know, just to give "EL" a rest and give someone else the shine.

It was a pretty cool movie, but I'd have to rank it behind Desperado for 3 reasons:

 

1. Salma Hayek did nothing in this movie, basically a flashback cameo. She had much more to do in Desperado and was naked to boot.

 

2. Desperado had a better heel in Bucho than either Marquez or Barillo in OUATIM. Dafoe was wasted.

 

3. Desperado had a much clearer story. In OUATIM there were so many people and so many double crosses and heel turns it was hard to follow.

 

Depp was great in this movie though. I can certainly see a solo vehicle for him as the blind gunslinger.

This movie was just HELLA fun. Depp played one of the coolest characters ever. Thep lot was REALLY convluted, to thep oint where I STILL don't know whether Depp was a good or bad guy.

 

I'd rank this equal to Desperado SOLELY because of Depp. Although Rourke, Blades, Banderas and the chihuahua were great as well.

 

This, surprisingly for an action movie, could've used another half hour to explain the plot better and give Dafoe more to do.

 

Still I REALLY enjoyed it just for the fun of it.

Depp was the shit once more. I totally dug the part where he gave his seeing-eye child ten bucks and told him to fuck off...so good. LOL @ him shooting the cook for really no good reason.

 

And was anyone else shocked to see Cheech show up? I thought the shot to the head killed him last time.

Hey, how bout no one cares about ol' Ricky Eglesias being in the movie. Really didn't have a big role but that duo were kinda cool. That sawed off shotgun stole the show for me after the church shoot out. Just the sound of it's discipline ::shutters:: and the scene where you see the guys jacket catch on fire from the sparks/heat

Action-wise it was one of the most fun movies I've seen in a long time.

Remote-controlled guitar bombs!? Out-fucking-rageous! My only problem was with the lack of character development, specifically with Johnny Depp's character. They never once explained why he was there in Mexico and why he did what he did.

I think Depp was in Mexico because the CIA had gotten wind of the whole Barillo/Marquez alliance to take out El Presidente. From there Depp hired El Mariachi and did a bunch of crazy shit. I THINK he was supposed to be a good guy, though him killing the cook and having the bullfighter shot "to even the odds" were hilariously bizarre.

 

Yes, the movie did seem like it could have used another 20 mins or so to explain more. Give Dafoe some chances to overact dammit!

 

I'm not sure if Cheech was technically the same character from Desperado. He was an informer in OUATIM, whereas he was a bartender in Desperado. I guess the one eye here could be his head wound from the other film though?

Depp's character made this movie. From his one liners to the fake arm he just rocked the whole way through.

 

That said though, Dafoe was wasted in his role and Salma Hayek was only in dream sequences. What a rip off!

Very good movie, IMO. Only a notch below Desperado. I will definitely have to get the "Mariachi" trilogy when it's offered up on some special edition deluxe DVD set.

Only thing I didn't like is I think the action was a little to over the top, I loved the way it was done in Desperado and wish they kept the same style....seeing people fly 20 feet through the air after taking a single bullet from a pistol is a bit much, heh

I LOVED this movie. Didn't like it quite as much as Desperado, but hey, more Selma always > less Selma for me. I also thought that the all star lineup didn't get as much chance to shine as they could have. But it was still awesome to see Wil and Mickey.

I also have come to the conclusion that this was not a sequel. It was either a movie set in another timeline with the same characters, or it was the REAL story, while Desperado was just a myth or legend being retold. Dunno though.

And damn if Johnny Depp isn't a friggin' genious. As an actor I can appreciate what he did with this role more than you can imagine. The truly strange nature of the character and the just plain stupid lines he had would have been a stretch for any GOOD actor, and Johnny pulled them off so naturally and off-handedly, I actually believed them. For cryin' out loud.

I recommend this movie to anyone who likes good old fashioned Spanish Western with a touch of Guy Ritchie. And even though there wasn't much of her, good lord Selma was hot. How the hell did she get that body? Droooool...

It was okay, but nowhere near Desperado. Desperado was a semi-serious action movie, this one was like a comic book or something. Just about everything was WAY over the top; it worked in some cases (Johnny Depp), and didn't work in others (the afformentioned flying 20 feet after one bullet, the remote control bomb, etc.). I also didn't like that it basically undermined everything in Desperado, with Salma Hayek being dead and El being nothing more than a pawn in Depp's scheme. One more caveet: some of the characters seemed to be very rushed, just thrown in for no reason at all except to serve a plot point in the climax. Eva Mendez, in particular, was basically pointless, and the retired FBI guy wasn't there for any reason other than to kill Willem Dafoe at the end. You can't just throw in characters to serve single plot points like that without sacrificing quality.

 

It was still entertaining, but for these reasons it wasn't any better than just alright.

Desperado is a more serious movie than OUATIM?? My god, Desperado is one of the funniest actioners I've ever seen.....or am I the only one who gets the humor? Stuff like the janitor hurriedly cleaning the floor with bloody water, and Bucho ranting about killing anyone they don't know is just classic.

 

Depp added most of the humor to this film, but overall it was pretty serious. And yes, the action is wild and over the top, but that's Rodriguez's style.

There was way too much stupid shit going on in OUATIM, way more than Desperado in my opinion. Anyways, a few things that bothered me in particular:

The flying away after every bullet, THE REMOTE CONTROL BOMB, for crying out loud, Depp shooting fairly well after having his eyes taken out, the entire plot with Borillo's face being taken off, the cartoonishness of Enrique and the other dude, El actually playing the guitar whilst being hounded by bad guys...like I said, way more stupid shit than Desperado...

He shot well for a reason, and the movie even showed it. When you lose one sense you gain another. He shot terrible until they made noise and he was able to tell where they were from the sound. That's not an inference either, the movie made it pretty clear.

Rodriguez does a lot of that wild violence that is somehow amusing. Like that scene mentioned when Depp is blinded. He pulls out his guns, it's quite dramatic, then proceeds to fire away.......and miss everyone by a mile! It's plausible yet somehow hilarious.
