The One and Only Angel Season 5 Thread

Recommended Posts

It doesn't have the same sort of Humour that Buffy or Angel has. But I can't really say that it won't either, as the first two episodes really were infreakingtense. David Fury is writing some of the episodes, so it may have some of that Buffy-flare to it... he was the mustard man in Once More With Feeling...

LOST has filled my Whedonverse void, even though I haven't been talking in the thread.

My computer has been crappy, so when I get a chance my posting time mostly is here.

I am really insulted you think I don't know who David Fury is. Of course he's the mustard guy, and Marti is the woman without underwear who is getting a ticket.

I need the Buffy humor. Some of you may have noticed it's my favorite part.....

Just to bring it up again for Anyanka's happiness. I found this on another forum:

he way I figure it... the thing with Anya's death, is that she didn't really die at all.

D'Hoffryn made a deal with Cyrus Vale (the demon who created Connors new fake life memories for him) - which made it 'appear' as if Anya were dead.

This is why D'Hoffryn was able to say with absolute confidence in 'Selfless' - 'All good things in time' - in reference to Anya's ultimate demise.

But keep in mind - he's only vengent remember - not psychcic?! So how else would he possibly know she's 'die'?

When she 'appeared to die', she was actually whisked off to a parralel dimension by D'Hoffryns henchmen, in a Vengeful act of retribution by D'Hoffryn for shirking her responsibilties to the Vengence Demon fold.

(So he gotCyrus to replace Andrews memories of her abduction, with memories of her death - and it is THOSE fake memories we saw on screen!)

So for the last few years, she has been tortured by an existance living in .... Possibly the Shrimp Dimension. Though more likely one with evil Bunnies, if D'Hoffryn wanted to get REALLY vengeful on her ass.

However, when Wes & Illyria killed Cyrus during 'Not Fade Away', all the magics he was responsible for went kephlewey - returning Anya to our dimension, and dumping her back in the Hellmouth crater. (And therefore, off screen, obviously.)

And now... No-one yet realises she's back!

See?? It's really quite simple when you think about it.

ANYA LIVES!!!!

Both are really good episodes. The Gift is probably the second best episode in the Buffyverse at tons of threads coming together (Home being just better), and it does have the bad ass Buffy/Glory fight as well as one of my favorite lines in the history of the show ("She's with me!"). My only real complaint about the show is the minions - the Spike/Anya/Giles vs minions/retards just comes off extremely weak. Not a big deal, but a deal. Still, fantastic episode that ties everything up and has a terrific ending. I really like the shot of everyone staring at Buffy's dead body.

But, Not Fade Away is perfect. Perfect. Angel vs Hamilton knocks the house down, the Wes/Illyria conversation is a heartbreaking yet fitting end to Wesley's arc, and there are many great one liners here. Everyone gets a good send off. The ending is perfect, and I hate how people say "it's a stupid cliffhanger!" because it isn't.

Vote: Not Fade Away

What's wrong with the scoobies vs. minions fight in The Gift? I've always thought it was fine. It's better than the fighting in NFA. I wish there was more though.

I don't care how Anya returns, I just want her back. What makes me sad is that if they do a movie or mini-series or something they probably wouldn't have time to do a story bringing her back, even though Emma has said she would want to do it.

I really want Anya and Xander to have children. This must happen. I just think it'd be so awesome.

I thought this was going to be for discussion and the actual vote was going to be a seperate thread at a later date. Anyhow:

Not Fade Away wins my vote.

How drastic will the repeat factor have to be? I've seen Not Fade Away many more times than I've seen The Gift. Not to take anything away from The Gift, NFA's just the better episode. Maybe I'm alone in this though.

Does anyone think -- it's probably just me -- that The Gift loses a bit because the show continued for two more seasons? I mean, I love the episode. It's probably the best Buffy episode ever. And would have been the perfect series-ender, but since it didn't... I dunno... I'm just weird I guess. :)

I mean, they're both awesome episodes, capping off the respective show's best seasons, IMO. The fifth season of Buffy was better than the fifth season on Angel, for me, but only by a smidge.

But the untangible is that Not Fade Away ended the Angel series. The Gift did not. It probably shouldn't matter, but it does. To me anyway.

(Did that make a lick of sense?)

So, because of that, my vote goes to Not Fade Away.

The Gift left more open ends than Not Fade Away, the latter which is my choice. The scoobies were really in limbo, especially Dawn.

Voting ends Monday, midnight.

I just rewatched it.... It's good ... but geez. It's nothing special at all. I thought The Gift was a better episode to end a better season. There was almost no action in NFA. The "big bad" was never proved to be all that big and all that bad. The black thorn guys looked weak as shit. They did their best to talk them up in the episodes before, but they never even looked like a threat. Glory had been built up THE WHOLE SEASON! She was not made to look like a walk over. Everyone played their part in "The gift". NFA did a good job at cutting off the loose ends, but that's about it. Really guys, this one should not even be close. They just got away with it to easily in NFA, the challenge was never there "But Wesley died blah blah blah blah...." Wes should have died in season 3, and his death, while being one of the best things about the episode, was no where near as good as Buffy's dive of destiny.

Of course "The Gift" left more open ends than NFA. It was the end of series 5,not the end of Buffy. For NFA it just seemed as if Joss found out it was gonna be the last season in the last couple of episodes and rushed through some kinda story so that Angel could go out Fighting the big Fight.

I mean come on.... 8 years talking about the bloody prophecy and he signs it away in the last episode in an extremely anticlimatic way. ARGHAGH!
